AUDET - Benoit (Ben) Audet of Strathmore, passed away on June 17, 1997 near Strathmore at the age of 38 years. He was born in Ontario on September 22, 1958. Ben is survived by his loving wife Sothana; his three sons, Phillip, Patrick and Erik; as well as numerous other relatives. Prayer Service Friday, June 20, 1997 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Strathmore at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass Saturday, June 21, 1997 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., Father Ignatius Thu Tran, Celebrant. WHEATLAND FUNERAL HOME LTD. (Strathmore) in care of arrangements. (6/20/1997).

AUSENHUS - Haakon passed away June 16, 1997 at the age of 88 years. Funeral Services will be held at Didsbury, at the Bevan Olson Farm on Saturday, June 21 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Chapels. Interment to follow at Didsbury Cemetery. Family and friends give special thanks to the staff of Forest Grove Centre for the wonderful care and kindness given while under their care (6/20/1997).

AUSTEN - Mary Ellen (Ella) Austen of Calgary, formerly of Olds, passed away at the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital on October 25, 1997, at the age of 88 years. Ella is survived by her children, George and Ellie Austen of Calgary, Irene Weidman of Delburn, Alberta and Teresa Drinkwalter of Red Deer, Alberta; eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Florence Dick, Esther German and Anna Holland; and a brother George Crowley. Ella was predeceased by her husband Charles, sister Blanch, brother Dan, and son-in-law Murray. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel" (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Tuesday, October 28, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard's Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, October 29, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Alexander MacLennan, Celebrant. Graveside Service at Olds Cemetery on Wednesday, October 29, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Special thanks to Dr. Verbeek and the wonderful caring nursing staff at Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital. BACHOR - Georgina Alice (Georgie) Bachor (nee Hubbard, aka Reschke), beloved wife of Vernon Bachor of Calgary, passed away suddenly while on vacation in Aruba, on Friday, June 27, 1997 at the age of 49 years. Born August 24, 1947 Georgina was raised in Edmonton, AB. She worked in the telecommunications industry for over twenty years primarily with Edmonton Telephones and Telus (AGT). On June 28, 1986 Georgina married Vernon Bachor and together they relocated to Calgary in 1987. She was known to all as a passionate, vibrant, gentle, accepting woman, who always had a wonderful smile. She was involved with her community actively volunteering as a member of the Federal and Provincial Progressive Conservative Party; a voracious reader of all books, and always lived life to the fullest. A few of her greatest moments in life were the marriage of her daughters, the engagement of her son and the birth of her grandchildren. Besides her loving husband Vernon, Georgina is survived by her children, Chris Reschke and his fiancee Kerri Vousden of Calgary, Kathy and her husband Cole Harris and their son Conner of Calgary, Jennifer and her husband Brett Bates and their son Bailey of Calgary, Jennifer Willow of Toronto, ON, Andy Bachor of Edmonton, AB and his son Erik Bergen of Victoria, BC. She is also survived by her parents, Margaret and Bob Gilliland of Calgary; her sister and brother-in-law Jeanette and Howard Homan of Calgary; her niece and nephew-in-law, Linnet and Wade Schumaker and their children, Mathew and Rebecca of Calgary; her nephew and niece-in-law Howie and Tracy Homan and their daughter Megan of Calgary; as well as her uncle and aunt Donald and Thelma Carson of Edmonton, AB. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Friday, July 4, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Children's Hospital, 1820 Richmond Road, S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2T 5C7 and/or The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Suite 8C, 1735 Bayly Street, Pickering, ON, L1W 3G7. BACKUS - In loving memory of Janet (Smith) Backus, who passed away peacefully at Brentwood Nursing Home on October 16, 1997. Janet was born on July 2, 1898 at No. 4 Beaufort Road, Fishponds, Bristol, England. She immigrated to Canada in 1925, sailing with the Letitia, Cunard Line, which landed in Quebec City. She traveled to Vancouver by train and worked in B.C. and the Yukon for several years as a bookkeeper and teacher. Married to Norman Johns Backus in Cranbrook in 1929. They purchased Crown Grant land at Seringa Creek, near Castlegar and lived there through the Great Depression. Moved to Trail, B.C. in 1939, and lived there until Norman's retirement from the CPR in 1962. Janet was active in the Trail St. Andrew's Anglican Church, the Trail Liberal Women's Association, and the Trail District Council of Women. Retirement was in White Rock, B.C., where she spent many happy hours gardening, playing bridge with their many friends, lawn bowling and traveling. She moved to Ottawa in 1974 to be with her grandchildren, then Calgary, Toronto, and Calgary again as the family moved. She was predeceased by her husband Norman in August 1969, and her brother Ralph in 1990. She is survived by her daughter Norma Joan (Barry) Pruden of Calgary; her grandchildren, Janet Blythe (Dragan) Panic, and Alexander Norman; and her great-grandchild Biliana Panic, all of Vancouver. The family wish to express their gratitude and appreciation for the loving care Janet received from the staff at the Brentwood Nursing Home. A Family Service will be held at a later date in White Rock, British Columbia. BAIRD - Rose Baird passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on December 15, 1997 at age 81. She was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on January 21, 1916. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1973, also by a sister Anne (Jack) Evans, and two brothers, Frank and John Gardy. She is survived by five nephews, Don Evans of Portage la Prairie, Wendell Gonyea, Kenneth (Donna) Gonyea, Dennis (Willow) Gonyea, Donald (Beth) Gonyea; and sister Jo (Bob) Gonyea. Rose lived in Bankview Senior House where she enjoyed many friendships. Previously she was a volunteer worker at Calgary Cancer Society. She loved children. At Rose's request there will be a Private Memorial Service. The family appreciates the loving care she received by staff and doctors of Unit 59 of the Rockyview Hospital (12/17/1997).

BAKER - Albert T. (Bert) Baker died suddenly June 12, 1997 at Foothills Hospital at the age of 90 years. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Agnes. Bert was born in Walnut, Illinois on January 16, 1907. Bert's father Perren, homesteaded in Southern Alberta in 1910. Following graduation from the University of Alberta, Bert took over managing the family farm until 1953 when he was named General Manager of the Alberta Wheat Pool, and the family moved to Calgary. His community involvement included terms as President of the Glenbow - Alberta Institute, President of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, member of the General Hospital Board, Council member of Calgary Chamber of Commerce, Senate of the University of Alberta, member of Eastern Rockies Forest Conservation Board, Board of Banff School of Advanced Management and fund-raising for the YWCA. Bert served on numerous company Boards of Directors including Alberta Gas Trunk Line Co. Ltd., Bank of Nova Scotia, Western CO-OP Fertilizers, Calgary Royal Trust Company Advisory Board. Following his retirement, Bert and Agnes enjoyed spending more time at Sylvan Lake, AB, Sun City, Arizona and Calgary. Bert is survived by two daughters, Eleanor and her husband Bill Bailey of Bigfork, Montana, Sandra and her husband Dave Brosteaux of Calgary; a brother Andrew of Campbellford, Ontario; three grandchildren, Dr. Karen Bailey and her husband David Baker, Kathy and her husband Mike McKenzie and Randy Brosteaux; and three great-grandchildren. Bert was predeceased by a sister Betty Mather and a grandson Norman Bailey. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Monday, June 16, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis F. McDonald of St. Martha's Catholic Church, Lethbridge, AB, officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital and Nursing Home, 3504 - 29 Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta T3E 2L3, or Calgary Stampede Foundation, Box 1060, Station "M", Calgary, Alberta T2P 2K8, or to a charity of your choice. In living memory of Albert Baker, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, "Park Memorial Chapel", 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W., CALGARY. (6/14/1997).
