- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -ALLEY - Jarrett John Alley, Forever Loved son of Jack and Sandy and sister Lauren (age eleven), of Calgary, passed away unexpectedly at the Foothills Hospital on December 14, 1997, after a heroic struggle due to complications arising from an aneurysm. Jarrett was born in Saskatoon, SK, Sunday, March 18, 1984 and moved to Calgary in 1991. He was a grade eight student at Cardinal Newman School and will be remembered by all as a determined, focused and organized young man who would carry out any project, task or athletic endeavor to the best of his abilities. Jarrett was an outstanding sportsman and athlete who loved hockey, soccer, running, biking, fishing and camping. He will be lovingly missed by his family and friends for his compassion, kindness to others and overwhelming"Love of Life". Jarrett is also survived by his grandparents, Gordon and Irene Alley, and Don and Elaine Lischka; his aunts, uncles and cousins, Lisa and Barry Bugera and daughter Rayanne; Lorelie and Jeff Gordon and sons, Jayme, Joel and Trevor; Grant Lischka and son Andrew; Darrell and Angie Lischka and daughter Rebecca; as well as numerous great-aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. AMAN - Robert (Bob) G. Aman, beloved husband of Mrs. Jean Aman of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on October 17, 1997 after a stroke at the age of 78 years. Bob was born on April 6, 1919 in Belleville, Ontario. Bob served with the Tri-Services during World War II. He graduated Business College in Ontario in 1941, as well as achieving his C.A. Degree in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario from 1945 to 1950. Bob resided in many cities including: Peterborough, New York, Winnipeg, Edmonton, as well as Calgary. Bob worked from 1964 to 1970 as the C.A., Assistant Administrator of the Edmonton General Hospital. He was married to Jean on May 20, 1972. He was actively involved in the Corpus Christi Catholic Perish, as well as serving on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Golden Age Club from 1995 to 1996. He will be remembered for giving generously of his time for both professional and volunteer organizations. Two occasions that brought Bob great joy were, achieving his pilots license and presenting his son Robert's Wings at "Wing's Graduation Day" in April 1989. Besides his loving wife, Bob is also survived by his children, three sons, Terry Aman, Wayne Aman, both of Calgary, and Robert Aman of Ottawa, Ontario; four daughters, Mary Anne Wuest of Hawaii, Joan Taylor of St. Albert, Alberta, Elizabeth Hobart of Ladner, British Columbia, and Karen Waterfield of Calgary; as well as eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Govier of Ottawa, Ontario. Bob is predeceased by a granddaughter Marion, his brother Stewart in 1992, and his sister Mary in 1996. Funeral Mass will be held at Ascension Catholic Church, (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.), on Monday, October 20, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Greg Coupal of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Celebrant. AMBROGIANO - Mrs. Filomena Ambrogiano of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on June 18, 1997 at the age of 93 years. Filomena was born in Fossacessia, Chieti, Italy, and married Giuseppe on December 29, 1933; then immigrated to Calgary in 1959. During the last two years she resided at the Bow Valley Lodge and discovered new friendships. She was a strong and sincere person, who devoted her whole life to God. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is the loving mother of a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Domenic Dragani of Sedgewick, Alberta; and grandmother to Gabriella Hill, Joe Dragani, Janet Yarham, Carlo Spoletini, and Valeri Polini; and a great-grandmother of fourteen children. Filomena is also survived by three sisters and one brother, Maria Arrizza of Italy, Nicoletta Marrone of Montreal, Violetta Sorgini of Australia, and Giovanni Paolini of Australia. She is also survived by several other brothers and sisters-in-law and relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Giuseppe on October 24, 1986, a daughter Rosina Spoletini on September 25, 1993, son-in-law Albert Spoletini on November 14, 1996, brother Giuseppe Paolini on October 9, 1989, sister Rosina Caravaggio, brother Antonio Paolini, and parents, Rosaria and Francesco Paolini. ANCO - Richard (Dick) Stephen, passed away at Rockyview Hospital on October 21, 1997 at the age of 66 years after courageously battling cancer since the spring. Dick is survived by his loving and ever-present companion and wife Joan Casey; his mother Mary; his two brothers, Don and Ron, all of Toronto; a daughter Lynn Souliere; and two grandchildren, Chelsea and Thomas Souliere of Kitchener, ON. Dick was born in Toronto on February 14, 1931. He attended Parkdale Collegiate and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and economics. After graduating, he spent a year studying at Osgoode Hall law school before entering Journalism with the Canadian Press Wire Service in Toronto in 1954. He spent the next twenty years working in Winnipeg, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal in a variety of roles as reporter and editor on the news desk, photo desk, and business desk. In 1974, he left Journalism to pursue a career in public affairs with Shell Canada where he remained until his retirement in 1991. During his time with Shell as manager of communications, Dick received many awards for his corporate publications. An active volunteer, he was a member of the Toronto Press Club and for many years served as a judge with the National Newspaper Awards. Following his retirement, his volunteer involvement continued with the Alberta Children's Hospital Society, Voiceprint, John Howard Society, Salvation Army Food Bank, and PALS. As well, he found time to write a corporate history, Railways to Resources - Evolution of PanCanadian Petroleum. In the winter he curled and during the summer, Dick and Joan often spent time in the mountains walking their two dogs, Chimo and Viking. For his family and many friends, both in the Calgary area and in eastern Canada, Dick died too soon with too much left to do. He will be fondly remembered for his steadfast friendship, words of encouragement, gentle laughter and loving ways. ANDERSON - Bjarne (Barney) Arthur Anderson, beloved husband of Thelma, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on November 28, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 79 years. Barney was born September 2, 1918 and has resided in Calgary for the past fifty-two years. He was employed with Trotter and Morton for thirty-eight years, retiring in September 1983. Barney will be greatly missed by his loving wife Thelma; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Gordon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Shelley, Jim and Anita; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Vi; a sister and brother-in-law, Vina and Bill; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. DYMOND - Frances Geraldine (nee van Baal) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on December 26, 1997 at the age of 60. Fran lived for her family, friends and outdoor adventure. Her generosity, humor and passion for life will be greatly missed. Fran will be sadly missed by her loving husband Norm, with whom she traveled many happy trails. Fran was the beloved mother of son Robin (Dawn); and daughters, Caren and Pamela (Clinton) Reece; and Oma to Declan. Fran will be sadly missed by sisters, Cor Van de Wiel of Holland, Thea (Geert) Williams of Ontario, Mary (Pat) Mattei of British Columbia, Gerrie van Baal of Manitoba; and brother Wim van Baal of Ontario. ALEXANDER - Mr. William John "Bill" Alexander of Calgary passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on June 17, 1997 at the age of 73 years. He is survived by his loving wife Isabell; one son Bill and his wife Michele; one daughter Brenda and her husband Jason Smith; and two grandchildren, Blaine Alexander and Jessica Smith, all of Calgary. He is also survived by one brother George and his wife Sandy and family of Calgary. Bill was born on June 12, 1924 in Calgary and grew up in the Victoria Park district. He served on the HMCS Coquitlam, 1943 to 1946. He also served with the Calgary Police Service and the Fire Department from 1947 to 1980 when he retired. He played for the Calgary Stampeders Football team in 1946 and 1947. He was united in marriage to Isabell Allan on April 14, 1956. He played baseball for Purity 99's and fastball for the Erics and the Becel Wranglers and played in the Big Six Hockey League. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Junior Sports. He coached Ladies and Girls Community Fastball. He was a volunteer for the Fairview Community Association.
