- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -KENDALL - Mrs. Annie "KATHERINE" Kendall of Lacombe passed away in the Lacombe Hospital and Care Center on November 4, 1997, just nineteen days before her 103 birthday. Katherine was born in Johnson County, Wyoming on November 23, 1894. The daughter of William and Martha (Dodge) Bryant, Katherine was raised on a ranch in Wyoming until her father's passing in 1912 when she, her mother, sister and brother moved to Los Angeles, California. After graduating from Hollywood High School, she became a Secretary and worked for an insurance company where she met her future husband. Katherine moved to Alberta in 1923 to marry Eugene L. Kendall and return to ranch life at Kew (near Millarville). After her husband's death in 1948, she continued ownership of the Kendall Stock Co. until its sale in 1973 when she moved to Calgary. In 1976, Katherine took up residence in Lacombe. Katherine was predeceased by her son John, son-in-law Bill Stewart, sister Rachel, and brother Oliver. She is survived by her loving family of one daughter, Dib Marie Stewart of Lacombe; two sons, William (Joan) Kendall of Millarville, AB and Frank (Anita) Kendall of Lacombe; daughter-in-law Margaret Kendall of Leduc; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held from the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church, (on Woody Nook Road West of Lacombe) on Friday, November 7, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery, Calgary at 3:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, No. 101, 4826 - 47 Street, Red Deer, AB, T4N 1R2. In memory of Katherine Kendall, a tree will be planted in an Alberta Provincial Park. A living memorial presented by Wilson's Funeral Chapel. KENDRICK - Norman Leonard (Len) Kendrick, beloved husband of Joan Kendrick, passed away peacefully at home, in Calgary on November 8, 1997, in his 70th year. Besides his wife Joan of forty years, he is survived by his sons, Jeffrey, Wayne, Stephen and Glenn; as well as his sister Betty (Don) Neat; and granddaughters, Heidi and Trisha. He was an employee of I.B.M. for thirty-four years, in Toronto and North Bay, Ontario. Private family Service will be held. KENNEDY - Frances G. "Frankie" Kennedy, (nee Leaman, Finkle), passed away peacefully at Bow View Manor with her loving family at her side on Sunday, December 21, 1997. Frankie was 81 years old. Her zest for life, positive attitude and wonderful sense of humour will be missed by all who knew her. She was always on the go whether it was playing golf, bridge or her hairdressing, and enjoyed the time spent with her many friends. She leaves to mourn her death, her loving husband of twenty-three years, Bill Kennedy; daughter Jill Gilmour of Edmonton; son Larry Leaman (Karen); stepdaughter Patty Downey (Larry), all of Calgary; grandchildren, Bill Grady of Edmonton, Todd, Brooke, Jim, Jennifer of Calgary; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister; and two nieces of Calgary. Frankie was predeceased by her parents, brother, sister, daughter Jackie and grandson Chad. The family would like to thank the staff at Bow View Manor for their care and support. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. KENNEY - Margaret Ellen Kenney (nee Penney), February 21, 1935 - December 11, 1997. After courageously living with the debilitating effects of ALS for over a year, Margaret died peacefully in her home at the age of 62. Margaret will be greatly missed by Bill, her loving and devoted husband of thirty-six years; her children, Tim, MaryAnn and Maureen; and her granddaughter Jordanna Lang. She will also be greatly missed by her sister Isabel Gorrie (Alec) of Grande Prairie; and her brother Doug Penney (Claire) of Edmonton; as well as her many friends and relatives. Margaret was born in Grande Prairie to her parents, Ronald and Jean Penney and grew up on a farm in the vicinity of Wembly, Alberta. She graduated in 1957 as an R.N. with a specialty in psychiatric nursing from the Alberta Hospital, Ponoka and the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton. She practiced nursing in Grande Prairie, Peace River, Drumheller and Stettler, between 1957 and 1961, and at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary between 1982 and 1995. Margaret lived for her family and friends, who will forever cherish memories of her gentle kindness and generosity. A Memorial Service will be held for her at St. David's United Church, 3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W., Calgary, with Rev. John Griffith officiating, on Tuesday, December 16 at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. KENT - Gordon Arthur Kent passed away peacefully at the Penticton Hospital on November 2, 1997 at the age of 68 years. Survived by his loving wife Ferne of Penticton; children, Steve (Diane) of Sooke, BC, Greg of Calgary, AB, Judy Kent of Penticton, BC, Diane (Ray) of Squim, WA; four grandchildren, Nick, Raymond, Collin, Kelsey; mother Diane Kindt of Calgary, AB; mother-in-law Mildred Wiltse of Penticton. MAHAFFY - Helen Elizabeth Mahaffy Johnson passed away on July 22, 1997. Born April 20, 1910, she lived most of her early years in Calgary, Alberta. Helen received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta in 1932. Helen married James Johnson, her beloved husband of sixty-two years, on July 5, 1934. Helen and Jim were well-known tennis players in Alberta in the 1930's. Jim passed away earlier this year. Helen is survived by her son Dick Johnson and wife Rose Marie of Edmonton; her son Bruce Johnson and wife Terry of Vancouver; her daughter Pat Twisselman and husband Jim of Everett, Washington; grandchildren, Maureen, Doug, Brian and Leslie Johnson and Blake Twisselman; three great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Len Russell and their family. Helen and Jim spent their last thirty years in Victoria where they enjoyed golf and the company of many relatives, friends and neighbors in View Royal. The family extends its appreciation to the nurses and staff at St. Charles Manor for the loving care and dignity they showed our mother of the last year. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 8, 1997 at All Saints Church in View Royal. MAHONEY - Patrick James passed away July 9, 1997 aged 61 years. He was predeceased by his father Thomas Patrick (1975). P.J. will be sorely missed by his loving family, his children, Shannon (Todd), Troy (Debbie), Sean; and his grandsons, Dylan and Michael; wife Lynne; his mother Eileen; brother Brian (Wynn); sister Ann (Pierre); uncle Matthew Mahoney; nieces and nephews and cousins.
