- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -KELLY - Ruth Doris, passed away quietly at the Victoria General Hospital on December 20, 1997 at the age of 83 years. She was born at High Bluff, Manitoba on June 28, 1914. She was predeceased by her daughter Nora on September 21, 1975, and was married to her surviving husband (Robert Harry Kelly) on October 29, 1933. She is also survived by three sons, Robert (Barb), Jim (Rose) and Michael, all of Victoria; also two sisters, Helen Knott (Reg) of Calgary and Grace Beck (Jack) of Summerland, B.C.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother-in-law James A. Kelly (Jean) of Calgary; and two sisters-in-law, Mamie Wilkins (Lloyd, deceased) of Lethbridge and Helen Wilkins (Jim, deceased) of Gabriola Island; and many nieces and nephews. She spent most of her life in Calgary and for the past thirty years enjoyed her winters with her husband in California. She was a long-term member of the Glencoe Club in Calgary and sang in the Calgary Chapter of the Sweet Adelines. She and her generous nature and likeable spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral Service will be held at SANDS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 317 Goldstream Avenue, Colwood, on Tuesday, December 23 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. KELSEY - Hazel Rose Kelsey passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on October 21, 1997 at the age of 84 years. Hazel is survived by two sisters and one brother, Gladys Wood of Crossfield, Ina Wells and Merle Heywood of Calgary. Hazel is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her loving husband Albert. KEMP - Nellie (Nel) Kemp of Jenner, Alberta, passed away suddenly in Jenner, Alberta on December 13, 1997 at the age of 58 years. Nel was born in Bassano, Alberta and moved with her family to Calgary where she received her schooling. She went on to do interior decorating in Calgary where she raised her family. In 1978 she moved to Burdett, Alberta where she was assistant manager of the Royal Hotel. Since 1994, she resided in Jenner, Alberta. Those who knew Nel will recall the value and importance she placed on family, the joy she found working in the kitchen, her hospitality, her willingness to be there for others and her ability to make things grow in her gardens. She will be remembered for her zest for life and appreciation of a good joke. She will be lovingly remembered by her special friend Arden Grant of Jenner, Alberta; as well as her three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Karla of Carseland, Alberta, Steven and Charlie, and Michael and Heather, all of Calgary; four granddaughters and two grandsons. She is also survived by her mother Ola Wolk of Calgary; to sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary McCallum of Calgary, and Flo and Steve deNeveres of Burnaby, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. KAVANAGH - Mr. Michael Gerald (Gerry) Kavanagh, beloved husband of Mrs. Leona Kavanagh of Calgary, passed away at home on Monday, July 21, 1997 at the age of 81 years. Gerry was born and raised in Nova Scotia. At an early age, he joined and served in the R.C.A.F., stationed in Toronto and then Calgary. In 1942, he met the love of his life, Leona LeBlanc and within four months they were wed. For fifty-five years they have enjoyed each other. Gerry had a passion for hockey. At one time, he had tried out for the Boston Bruins but due to the war, his dream was gone. After the war Gerry and Leona settled in Calgary, where he continued to work for the C.P.R. for almost forty years. He did continue to participate in curling, golfing and hockey which he enjoyed very much. He will be missed. Besides his loving wife, Gerry is also survived by his sister Margaret McCarthy of Nova Scotia; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and a sister. KAWKA - Benny, beloved husband of Mrs. Joan Kawka of Calgary, passed away at the Cedars Villa Nursing Home on December 19, 1997 at the age of 65 years. Besides his loving wife, Benny is survived by son Leslie; sister Helen (Zenon) Sabat; mother-in-law Alberta Watson; sisters-in-law, June (Harvey) Mosca and Doris (Laurids) Gjerlevsen. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his beloved wife Thelma; daughter Donna DeCook (James) of Ashcroft; grandchildren, Kim DeCook of Ashcroft, Jamie Fredrickson (Stearn) of Ashcroft, Teri Bundus (John) of Ashcroft, Linda Linklater (James) of Ashcroft, Michael DeCook (Debbie) of Penticton; one sister Mae Coyne of Hamilton, Ont.; and eleven great-grandchildren. KAYTER - John Andrew passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 1997, at the age of 74 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Noreen. John will be missed by his five daughters, Faye-Marie Kayter, Donna-Mae (Jim) Harvey; Barbara-Joan Miller, Cathy-Anne (Jim) O'Connell and Laura (Jack) Maetche; eight grandchildren, Chad (Erinn) Sehn, Wayne (Susan) Berglof, Dawn (Brian) Williams, Gary Berglof, Jason and Jared Miller, and Hannah and Sarah Maetche. He also leaves to remember him, his brother Martin (Delores) Kaytar and their three children. John's friends, Hanne and Glenn Mason will also miss him. KEIPER - Karl Martin Keiper, beloved husband of Anneliese, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on December 19, 1997 at the age of 78 years. Besides his loving wife Anneliese, Karl is survived by one daughter Susan and her husband Massoud Abbas-Nejad and granddaughters, Miriam and Rebecca, all of Spruce Grove, Alberta.
