- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -DONALDSON - Mr. Gordon Leon Donaldson passed away peacefully, December 26, 1997, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67. Gordon was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on November 1, 1930 and was raised in the town of Claresholm. He obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1952 and began his career as a Project Engineer involved with highway planning and construction in the province upon graduation. He went on to become a Senior Planner with the City of Calgary for several years before establishing a private land development consulting practice. During the last twenty years he continued to be active on a semi-retired basis in land development and real estate investing. Gordon was a deeply religious and charitable man with a special passion for the poor and the religiously persecuted. That personal ministry began in his home church where he started taking children to Sunday School in his Volkswagon bus and it eventually took on internationalproportions through the Gordon Donaldson Missionary Foundation to countries like India, Hungary, Romania, China, Estonia, the Ukraine and finally the former Russia. He packed shoeboxes with dry goods to send to African children for ten years, continuing that work up until only a few weeks ago. His compassion and generosity also involved an executive position with International Russian Radio and Television, an organization that transmits Russian language radio and television gospel programs it produces in Finland over several international radio stations into the former Soviet Union. His desire was to have the whole world know Jesus died for them and loves them. His loving memory will be cherished by his wife of forty-six years, Marie (Osinchuk); four sons, Jim (and his special friend Zoe), Gerry (Janelle), Rob (Sharon) andTim (Cindy); seven grandchildren, Jodi, Alanna, Nicole, Matthew, Rena, Austin and Carter; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ethan and Mackenzie; and a brother Terry (Barbara) of Comox, BC. He was predeceased by a son Andrew, a sister Doris, and by his parents, Martha and Ken. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 1997 at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. at 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the caring nurses in Unit 43 and to Drs. Braun and Herman at the Peter Lougheed Centre as well as the dedicated nurses in Unit 71 and Dr. Williams at the Rockyview Hospital. Very special thanks are extended to Home Care Nurse Pam Brown. DONG - Mr. Dick Ying Dong, beloved husband of Mrs. Susan Dong of Calgary, passed away on December 5, 1997, at the age of 69 years. Dick was born in Canton, China in 1928. He immigrated to Canada in 1951, residing in Lethbridge and most recently in Calgary. Dick was an entrepreneur and business man who owned and operated numerous restaurants. He enjoyed life to its fullest. He was a loving father, with his family being his focus of attention. He followed his heart by giving unselfishly to others. Dick will be greatly missed by his family. Beside his loving wife, Dick is also survived by his children, Martha Dong and Jeff Phipps, Arlene and Wade Howells, and Eileen and Darcy Gukert, all of Calgary; as well as a granddaughter Madison Howells. He is also survived by his mother, three brothers and two sisters. Dick was predeceased by his parents, and a brother. DONNACHIE - Edward T. Donnachie, beloved husband of Margaret Donnachie of Calgary, passed away at home on June 11, 1997 at the age of 69 years. Besides his loving wife, Edward is also survived by his family, Mary, Katie, Pat and his wife Debbie, Jim and his wife Shauna, Frances, Janie, Michelle and her husband Bob Beauregard; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister. DONNER - Lyla Mayme Donner went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 7, 1997 after a brief illness. Lyla leaves behind her son Stewart Leslie; daughters-in-law, Teryle Leslie and Donna Leslie; grandchildren, Kevin, Shannon, Shawna, Tyson, Travis, Tyler, Jordan and Kendall; great-granddaughter Jade; step-son Ed (Rosalie) Donner and their children, Lori, Lorne and Trevor; step-daughter Dawn (John) Daviduyk and their children Nicole and Marilyn. Lyla will also be missed by her sister Hazel (Ted) Schlorff of Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba. Lyla was preceded in death by her husband Chester in 1967 and her son Thomas in 1991. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 12, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, 2223 - 34 Street S.W., Calgary. DOUGALL - Dr. Robert Henry (Bob), aged 76 years of Claresholm, AB passed away June 8, 1997, beloved husband of Miriam of Claresholm; and loving father of Bonnie Dougall and Fred of Toronto, Ont., Marnie and Barry Worbets of Calgary and Dr. Hugh and Norma Dougall of Calgary. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Dana, Kerry, Rory, David, Hilary and Gwenn; three brothers, John (Shirley) Dougall of Brooks, AB, Donald (Lenora) Dougall of Saskatoon, Sask. and Bill (Hazel) Dougall of Saskatoon, Sask.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Dougall was predeceased by his parents, and his daughter Heather in 1956. He was born and educated at Plenty, Sask. and studied accounting at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Dougall served with the R.C.A.F. from 1940 to 1945 and served overseas for one year. He then attended the U of A, studying medicine and specializing in internal medicine. Dr. Dougall practiced in Edmonton until 1979 when he moved to Claresholm where he practiced until retiring in 1990. He enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing and the outdoors. Services will be held at LEYDEN'S "Chapel of Remembrance" (4079 - 1 Street West, Claresholm) on Thursday, June 12, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Barrett Scheske officiating. DOUGAN - Mary Florence Dougan of Calgary, passed away at the Cross Bow Auxiliary Hospital on December 17, 1997 at the age of 96 years. Mary was born and raised in Oxford, Nova Scotia. She married Francis L. Dougan of Moncton, New Brunswick in 1950 and lived in that city until 1989. She moved back to Calgary with her sister Margaret, where she resided until her passing. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Mary's Seniors and the Catholic Woman's League. She is survived by a sister Margaret Jeffers of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband Francis, and two brothers, Robert and Darrol. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral (219 - 18 Avenue S.W.), today, December 20, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Bagnall, Celebrant. DOUGHERTY - Mary-Jane (Dolly) Dougherty (nee Arnell), beloved wife of the late Everett (Ike) Dougherty passed away peacefully in Calgary on November 16, 1997 at the age of 78 years. Dolly was born in Innisfail to the late Mr. and Mrs. Dave Arnell. She leaves to mourn her loss, one son Tom Dougherty, his wife Maureen and a grandson Stephen; a sister Peggy Andersen; many nieces and nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Tom Arnell and Bee Swick. Dolly had the Artistic Beauty Salon in Innisfail for several years. She and Ike moved to Calgary in 1944 where she took a business course, and then went to work for C.J. Campbell's Insurance for fifteen years. Dolly was an active member of Rosedale United Church, Order of Eastern Star Edith Cavell No. 25, Renfrew Sixty Plus Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Army & Navy. DOVER - George Suffell passed away at the Bethany Care Centre on December 7, 1997 at the age of 89 years. George is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth of sixty-five years; and his two sons, George (Gwen) of Winnipeg, and Bill (Darlene) of Vancouver; and his three daughters, Betty (Jake), Joan (Vic) and Pat (Charlie), all of Calgary. George is also survived by twenty grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren, and three sisters. George is an honorary member of Greater Forest Lawn Seniors Club. He worked with the T. Eaton company in Winnipeg, retiring after thirty years of service. George will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
