Jirina is the loving mother of Ross, and the loving grandmother of Stephanie. She is also survived by Jiri Koutecky; her brother Edward (Fenivar) Novotmy and their daughters, Caroline, Jessica; her sister Alenka (Jiri) Becka of Czechoslovakia; and numerous nieces and nephews. KOWALIK - Edward John, friend, companion and love of Marie Gee of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre on Sunday, 06 July 1997. He was predeceased by his father Walter Kowalik. Ed is survived by his mother Mary; and brothers, Chester and Raymond and their families of Ontario. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Ted (Heather, Matthew, Krystina and Kathrine) of Surrey, British Columbia; Richard (Carrie, Cory and Riley) of Spokane, Washington; and Steve of Spokane, Washington; and by their mother Jenny Kowalik of Surrey, B.C. Ed's memory will also be cherished by his extended family, Ethel Gee, who held a special place in his heart, and her children, Gene, Hank, Wing and May and their families. Ed was born in Iroquois Falls, Ontario on 27 January 1931 and moved to Toronto at the age of eleven. His forty-two year romance with Aviation began when he won an Air Cadet scholarship at the age of seventeen. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1949 and at the age of twenty-one, was a Captain on the North Star during the Korean Airlift. Ed's civilian career included flying for TCA, Transair on the construction of the DEW Line, Imperial Oil, PWA, Great Northern Airways, Panarctic Oils, Kaiser Resources and Wardair. He retired from Canadian Airlines as an A310 Captain in 1991. After his retirement, Ed and Marie returned to his favourite city where he added to the Calgary skyline by constructing several condominium projects through his company, Birchcrest Homes. Ed's sincerity truly touched the life of all those he came in contact with. He will be loved and remembered for his eagerness to listen and share. KOWOL - Joachim (Jo) Kowol, passed away in Calgary on October 24, 1997 at the age of 75 years. He is the loving father of Zygmunt (Olga) Kowol of Taber, AB, Krystyn (Jan) Fleisman of Calgary, and Ursula (Jim) Dick of Calgary; as well as four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Jo is predeceased by his wife Linda in 1994. KRAATZ - Florence Harriet, passed away peacefully in the arms of her family, on Thursday, November 6, 1997 of cancer. She was born at Strathmore, Alberta on July 5, 1920. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert in 1990. She is survived by her son Marvin, his wife Shirley, their children, Clayton and Leslie (Dan), and great-granddaughter Kayla, all of Calgary. Survived also by son Alton, his wife Marrianne of Brentwood Bay, their children, Rebecca of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Matthew (Tiffany) of Canmore, Alberta; also sister Helen (Bill) Mallinson; and sister-in-law Grace Allison of Sundre, Alberta; as well as dearly loved nieces and nephews; also brother-in-law Cliff (Dolly) Hawthorne of Summerland and their children. Florence lived in Summergate Village, Sidney, where she had many special friends, especially her Saturday night card-playing friends. She was a milliner, a fine seamstress, the best homemaker, a Tai Chi practitioner, a gambler, taxi service to her friends, amongst other great accomplishments. She spent the last three months at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Brentwood Bay. Special thanks to Homecare Nurses, Lois and Erin, Hospice, The Palliative Response Team, and to the Home Support Workers from PCA. KRAFT - Jean Laura Kraft passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, November 28, 1997 at the age of 76 years. KRISTENSEN - Knud (Ken), of Calgary, passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 30, 1997, at the age of 72 years, after a lengthy struggle with the ravages of Alzheimer's. Ken is survived and will always be remembered by his loving and devoted wife of forty-seven years Mrs. Erna Kristensen; his son Jan (Dorothy) Kristensen; and grandchildren, Evan and Dayna Kristensen. He was predeceased by a son Terry in 1981. Knud and Erna arrived in Canada in 1952 from their native Denmark and have lived in the Calgary area since 1953. Ken was retired after more than twenty-five years working at the U of C. He will always be remembered for his active life which revolved around his love of children, sports and animals.He coached and began the first minor soccer program in North Calgary and served for six years as sports director of Renfrew Community in the sixties. His love of animals and especially horses led to an active hobby of providing riding instruction and boarding to many from the Calgary and Okotoks area. Ken was extremely active as a horse show senior judge and official throughout Western Canada. He participated in the selections for the Olympics in three-day eventing and dressage. KROMM - Fred Kromm, beloved husband of Anne Kromm of Calgary, passed away at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital on Friday, December 5, 1997 at the age of 81 years. Besides his loving wife, Fred is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ernest, Elmer and Sharon of Smoky Lake, Alberta, James and Kim and Allan and Donna of Calgary, Alberta; four grandsons, Danny, David, Jeff and Chad. He is also survived by a sister Ester Hogan of Drayton Valley, Alberta; and a brother Conrad of Calgary. Fred is predeceased by two sisters. KSIANZYNA - Isabel Hanna Ksianzyna passed away peacefully at Peter Lougheed Hospital, July 12, 1997. Isabel was born July 3, 1915 in Kisbey, Saskatchewan. She will be lovingly remembered by husband Abe; daughter Janice King and husband Al; daughter-in-law Joan Ksianzyna; five grandchildren, Jodi King, Randi Colapaolo (Joe), Treena Groeneveld (Randy), Tom Ksianzyna, Leslie Mortimer (Mace); three great-grandchildren, Amber, Frankie and Maxwell; three sisters, Irma McKinstry of Weyburn, Jeannie (Russ) Doten of Toronto, Winnie (Ray) Pettit of Calgary; one sister-in-law Ingrid Johnson of Kimberley, B.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Johnson (Audrey) of Kamloops and Norm (Lorna) Johnson of Calgary and a special friend Helen Farch.
