- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -BENT - Fredrica Leona Bent died peacefully at Chelsey Park Nursing Home in London, Ontario on September 7, 1997, at age 93. Leona was the daughter of Major Fred Bagley and Lucy May Kerr Francis. Bagley trekked to Alberta in 1873 with the North West Mounted Police and lived in Calgary and Banff, where Leona spent her early years. She taught in rural schools in northern Alberta and at Drumheller, Trochu and Red Deer. Leona married rancher Roy Bent of Lundbreck, Alberta in 1934. Roy and Leona retired to Red Deer and Mesa, Arizona. Leona was predeceased by Roy, and sisters, Kate Hinchliffe and Marian Connelly. She will be remembered with love and respect by son Dale Bent; daughter-in-law Penny Bent; Leslie and Gary Van Dusen and Clare, Peter, and Stefan; Maia Bent and Michael McKinlay, and Scotia and Lachlan; Elizabeth and Anthony Martin; grandson Joe Bent; nephews, Michael Connelly and Douglas Connelly; sister-in-law Elsie Jones; Betty Wilbee and Brenda Wilbee of Bellingham, Washington; their families; many friends and students; and Paddy. A Memorial Service will be conducted by the Very Rev. Bruce Howe at St. Paul's Cathedral, 472 Richmond Street, in London at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the St. Paul's Cathedral Arts Fund. A Memorial Service will also be held at a later date in Calgary. (WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL. (9/10/1997).
BENTLEY - Jane (nee Greenwood), beloved wife of Mr. Vernon Bentley, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 80 years, after a serious and unknown illness. Besides her loving husband, Jane is also survived by a brother Kendall Greenwood. She was born in Calgary, raised on a farm in Lousana, Alberta. Following High School graduation, she attended Henderson's Business College in Calgary. This was followed by several years at the Central Alberta Dairy Pool in Alix. She returned to Calgary where she spent forty years in the Insurance Business. In those years, Jane became well-known in the musical circle around the city including forty years in the Central United Church Choir, as a member of a quartet "In The Back To The Bible Hour", and in the Choral Belles. She married Vernon Bentley in 1949. She was fifty-four years in the Order of the Eastern Star. Jane and Vernon enjoyed traveling in their motor home and on cruises. Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Friday, November 28, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Michael C. BERCARU - Mrs. Anastasia Bercaru passed away peacefully at the Beverly Centre on December 16, 1997 at the age of 87 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her granddaughters, Sabrina, Roxana (Danny); her son Dean (Rodica) Phillip; as well as niece Vicky of Florida, U.S.A.; and other relatives in Romania. Anastasia had great love for children, passion for blooming flowers, and care for all creatures great or small. She was a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother for all her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. BERG - Katherine of Calgary, passed away peacefully on December 28, 1997. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, and her brother Stephen. Katherine is survived by her loving daughter Darlene Tyson; two sisters, Mary Pederson and Annie Kosinski. BERMINGHAM - Jessie Louise Bermingham passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 1997 at the Peter Lougheed Centre at the age of 69 years. Jessie is survived by her loving husband Jim, their three sons, James of North Vancouver, B.C., Steven (Cyndy) of Calgary and Michael (Diane) of Oakville, Ontario; as well as four dear grandchildren, Christopher, Jackie, Julie and Bradford. Jessie is also survived by her brother Charles (Beverly) Fletcher; and her sister Mary Pinsonneault; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. BERNATZKI - Alex Bernatzki passed away peacefully on October 27, 1997. Alex was born on February 25, 1916 in Redwater, AB and raised by his grandparents on a farm near Ross Creek. Alex moved to Calgary in 1940 where he married Olga, his wife of nearly fifty-six years. During the Second World War he served briefly in the Canadian Armed Forces before an injury caused an early discharge. After his discharge, he worked at numerous jobs, then joined A.G.T., until his retirement in 1981. Alex is survived by his loving wife Olga, his mother-in-law Mary Omelchuk both of Calgary; his son Roger (Sandy) Bernatzki of Surrey, BC; his grandson Ryan Bernatzki of Vancouver, BC; his granddaughter Nicole (Guido) Presch; and great-grandson, who was named after him, Logan Alexander Presch of Salmon Arm, BC. Alex enjoyed his sixteen years of retirement, traveling to visit family whenever possible. "Rest well Alex, you will be missed and always loved."
