Mrs. Jean Umbach
UMBACH - Jean Augusta Umbach, beloved wife of George Umbach, of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Forest Grove Nursing Home on April 24, 2006 at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by her brother Marcus Tompkins. Jean was born on August 5, 1920 in Brookville, NB, to Ralph and Clara Belle Tompkins. She was an active member of the Greater Forest Lawn Senior's Centre for more than 25 years. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. If so desired, memorial tributes in Jean's name may be made directly to the S.P.C.A. Mrs. Pauline Amy Grose
GROSE - Pauline Amy. Pauline went safely into the arms of God in her 89th year on April 24, 2006. Our quiet, gentle Mother, Tippy Gramma, and Great-Gramma was known for her kindness, hard work, and indomitable spirit. Her great loves in life were her family and her church. Born in Ilford, England in 1917, she lived the first half of her life in London, ON, and came to Calgary in 1957. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Grose, beloved parents Colonel and Mrs. R.B. Crouch, her dear brother Robert, son-in-law Gary Fields, and grand-daughter Cindy. Beloved Mother of Carol Fields of Simi Valley, California, and Sue Moffatt of Calgary. Pauline is also survived by her grandchildren, Glenn Moffatt (Wanda), Sharmaine Prince (Tom Caldwell), Michelle Jones (Doug), Sheila Rae (Dave), Gary Fields (Blair), Misty Fields, and Peggy Sue Moffatt (Mike Duthie); her adoring great-grandchildren, Danielle, Kimberly, Dustin, Amy, Derek, Kristin, Paulina, Grace, Ashton, Evan, Jace, Elyse, and Blythe; step-daughters Eileen Blanchet, Elinor Martin, Sue Arnold and their families; as well as nieces Sandra Clarke (Ian), Viki Alles (Anthony), nephews Fred Crouch (Monique) and Robert Crouch (Lisa) and their families. Sincerest thanks to Dr. Leggett and the nursing staff of Unit 59 at the Rockyview General Hospital. Elliott, Mildred Jean
1928 - 2006
Mildred Jean Elliott, beloved wife of the late Mr. Jim Elliott of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on April 24, 2006 at the age 77 years. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her children: Joan (Lawrence) Ziegler, Bev (Gord) Peters, Lyla (Nick) Wetsch of Condo AB, Ron (Diane) Elliott, Jennifer Hall, Lisa (Herb) Chadwick, fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters; Evelyn Blais and Clara Houghton both of Kamloops BC. She was predeceased by: her husband, Jim Elliott in 1999, parents Ernest and Dora Houghton and sister Doreen Miller. Born in Innisfail AB on November 20, 1928, and resided there until moving to Calgary to work and become a nurse at The Children’s Hospital. Jean met Jim and married him on July 10, 1946 and spent 53 years together. Jean became a stay at home mom when the children started to arrive. She loved being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Playing cards and games with all her “children” was a great joy and she was fortunate to have so many. Family, friends, picnics and Sunday dinners were of great importance to Jean. She was a loving person whose door was always open and the coffee pot was always on. As Jean’s children were growing up, she became very active with Brownies and Guides, becoming the Area Commissioner. She was also active with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #275 and was there as a helper and for support when Jim became president. Jean played an important role in helping organize and contributing to the information for the Book - Forest Lawn History. KING - Margaret “Myra”
Margaret “Myra” King (nee Smart) passed away at the McKenzie Towne Care Centre on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the age of 95 years. Myra will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Heather (Lance) Wheeler; granddaughter, Dianne (Jim) Novak; grandson, Stuart (Michele) Wheeler and great grandchildren, Brad and Kennedy Novak and Marla Wheeler, all of Dalemead. She is also survived by a niece, Elaine (Ron) Franklin of Calgary and nephews, Glen King, Roy (Gail) King and Gordon (Lois) King. Myra was predeceased by her husband Allan, brother Jim Smart, sisters Mabel Baker and Elsie Trevelyan. Myra was born on October 15, 1910 in Coatbridge, Scotland and came to Calgary in 1912 where she resided until she married Allan King of Indus in 1935. They resided on their farm at Indus until 1972 when they retired to Calgary. After Allan’s death, Myra continued to live in their Calgary home until a few years ago when she moved into the McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence and in January of 2005 moved to the McKenzie Towne Care Centre. Myra loved to visit with family and friends and spent many hours doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles over the years. She had been a member of the Indus Live Wires Seniors Club and a lifetime member of the Sakkara Temple, Daughters of the Nile. To celebrate Myra’s long life and to honor her preference, a family gathering will be held at the North Bow Lodge at Dalemead on Monday, May 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to express its thanks to the staff of McKenzie Towne Care Centre for their excellent care of Myra over the past fifteen months. Steve Omelchuk, born December 17, 1917 in Chipman, AB, passed away peacefully at the Newport Harbour Care Centre in Calgary on Friday, April 28, 2006 at the age of 88 years. Steve will be lovingly remembered by his son Bruce, daughter-in-laws Janie and Mimi, five grandchildren: Jeremy, Chad, Matthew, Todd and Troy; great-grandchild Noah; sister Olga; brother Ed and by many brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by Clara, his loving wife of 61 years and son Wayne. ANDERSON - Edward Allen, passed away in Calgary on June 19, 2006 at the age of 81 years. Ed, loving father of Duwane (Yvonne) and Todd (Linda); loving grandfather of Jennifer and Aaron of Calgary; loving foster father of Debbie (Dusan) and loving companion to Judy Nicol. He is also survived by: brothers, Jack, Ken, and Stan (Dorothy); sisters, Mary (Orest) Schur, Shirley (Ken) MacDonald. Edward was Predeceased by: his wife, Florence Anderson; parents, Percy and Nellie Anderson; sister Joyce and sister-in-law Jean. Ed was born in Castor, Alberta on January 7, 1925. He started working for CP Rail in 1946 as a Engine Wiper and retired in 1985 as a Locomotive Engineer. Ed will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and a good friend. Mrs. Dorothy Durie
It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Durie announce her passing on June 20th 2006 at Bow View Manor, Calgary. Dorothy was born in Eastend, Saskatchewan on September 14, 1915 and due to the early passing of her own mother, became the matriarch of her own family at a young age. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1946 and married William Allan Durie in 1948. They moved to Calgary shortly afterward where Dorothy has lived, taught school and raised her family. She took great pleasure in running into students who still remembered their days in her kindergarten class. She will be lovingly remembered by Allan, her husband of fifty-seven years, her two daughters, Heather (Ron) and Debbie (Darcy); and her two granddaughters, Julia and Allison. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty and Hilda. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home on Monday June 26th at 10:00 AM.
