JOHNSON - J.R. "Dick" Johnson passed away at the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Centre on November 12, 2001 at the age of 80 years. Dick is survived by his loving wife Ellen; one daughter Rita; and one son Garry; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by one brother, one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. Charlie Kennedy
KENNEDY - Charlie Kennedy, born in Dundee, Scotland, January 11, 1911, passed away quietly on Saturday, November 10, 2001. He will be sadly missed by Doreen, Chris, Edette and Murray who were blessed to be with him during his final years. Charlie was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty years, Marie, in 1993, as well as by his parents, brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sister Mary Adams and by numerous nephews and nieces. During Charlie's lifetime, he was a pillar of the Calgary community. Best known for his time as President of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, Charlie was also the past President of the Stockyard Division of the C.P.R., the C.P.R. Men's Association, the Calgary Downtown Rotary Club and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. He was a popular public speaker, well known in the ranching community, and he started the Oldtime Rangeman's Dinner and hosted it for twenty-five years. Charlie received numerous awards for his contributions to the community and hosted countless V.I.P.'s over the years. He will be well remembered and missed. Visitation for family and friends was held at LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME "Chapel of Remembrance" (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.) on Thursday, November 15, 2001 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's the Archangel Catholic Church (4716 Worcester Drive S.W.) on Friday, November 16, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Len Hagel, Presider, with a reception immediately following the Funeral Mass at the church hall.

Robert Kolstad
KOLSTAD - Robert Kolstad of Calgary passed away suddenly at Hanson Ranches, Airdrie on Monday, November 12, 2001 at the age of 83 years. Robert was born in Airdrie on June 30, 1918. He attended Airdrie School and was later employed at the Alberta Wheat Pool in Airdrie. In 1951, he returned to the family business at the Airdrie Hotel. In 1960, the Airdrie Hotel was sold and Robert, Herman and their mother moved to Calgary. Robert continued in the oil business where he was still actively working at the time of his death. Robert is survived by his dear friend Evelyn Frost and her family; two nephews, Alvin and Lee Kolstad; a niece Peggy Kolstad (Gushvay) and several cousins. He was predeceased by his father and mother and his brothers, Herman, Olaf and Peter. Graveside Service will be held at Burnsland Cemetery (Spiller Road and 27 Avenue S.E.) at 2:00 p.m., prior to the Funeral Service. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Chapel of the Bells", (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, November 19, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice. Jo Ann Marie Adkins (Cowles)
ADKINS - Jo Ann Marie Adkins (Cowles) of Calgary passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, November 15, 2001 at the young age of 65. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Deborah (David) Kniss, Bill (Debra) Adkins, Rebekah (Robert) McCall, David (Debra) Adkins; ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Family was always a priority and her face lit up as she spoke of her children and grandchildren whom she cherished so much. Jo Ann's battle with cancer never took her inner joy and enthusiasm for life, or her Lord. Isaiah 40:29 kept her going amidst life's trials. She continued as a member of Bow Valley Alliance Church and enjoyed close fellowship with her Christian family. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, November 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a celebration of her life on Tuesday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. Mrs. Pauline Bartel
BARTEL - Mrs. Pauline Bartel of Calgary, passed away at the Edgemont Retirement Residence on Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at the age of 89 years. Mrs. Bartel was born on November 28, 1911 in Germany and immigrated to Canada with her four daughters in 1950 to join her husband. Mrs. Bartel is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Erna and Gus Elbe of Calgary, Alma and Jim Dain of Calgary, Erika and Bruce Motherwell of Salmon Arm, and Paula and Ed Emerton of Calgary; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bartel was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1990. Jean Claude Belecque
BELECQUE - Jean Claude Belecque, born November 13, 1940 in Pte. Gatineau, P.Quebec, residing in Calgary, AB since 1976, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on November 22, 2001 after a long battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sue; children and in-laws, Michel, Mireille, Sylvain (Coleen), Martin (Kelly), Anne Marie and Stephan; as well as many grandchildren. Jean also leaves his two brothers, Raymond (Denise) and Germain (John); and two sisters, Adrienne and Yvette (George), all of Gatineau, P. Quebec. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Philomene Belecque of Gatineau, P. Quebec. Robert Michael Borak
BORAK - Robert Michael Borak passed away in Coquitlam, B.C. on November 15, 2001 at the age of 46 years. Rob was born and raised in Calgary and completed his education there, graduating from Henry Wise Wood High School in 1972. His interest and capability with mechanical things led to his first job with Alberta Government Telephones. He left AGT and joined Xerox Canada Limited as a service technician. Rob loved his job because it allowed him to meet lots of people and help solve their problems. He received several company awards for his outstanding customer service. With Xerox, Rob spent time in Terrace and Ladysmith before finally settling in Vancouver. Throughout his life, Rob had a passion for animals and loved every pet he ever had but none more than his dogs, Bonny and Abby. Rob has finally found the peace he sought and we shall keep him in our hearts forever. Rob is survived by his mother Margaret; brother Allen and his wife Ellen, niece and nephew, Diana and Ian, all of Calgary; and his wife Del Borak of Port Moody. Viola Barbara Clark
CLARK - Viola Barbara Clark of High River passed away at the High River Hospital and Nursing Home on November 23, 2001 at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her daughter Grace (Mack) Ulmer and her son Glen (Sylvia) Clark, all of High River; and by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Viola is also survived by her sister Florence Hunter, Vancouver and sister-in-law Willamina Clark, Calgary, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ivan on August 21, 1998. A Funeral Service will be held at the High River Baptist Church on Monday, November 26 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Jack Knight officiating. An Interment Service will follow at Highwood Cemetery.
