Mrs. Viola Neudorf passed away peacefully at her home in Cold Lake, Tuesday December 9, 2003 at the age of 86. She was born in Vulcan, Alberta, November 6, 1917, where she completed her primary education (often riding a horse to school) before attending SAIT in Calgary, where she received her certification as a Nutritionist. She met and married Mervin Baker in 1938, in High River, Alberta. Two years later they were blessed with the birth of their daughter Myra. Mervin enlisted in the army and went overseas. When Mervin was killed in action in WWII, Viola moved to Calgary with Myra. There they lived with Viola's parents. A few years later Viola met Harry Neudorf. They were married in 1948 in Kelowna, B.C. In the summer of 1949, their daughter Sharon was born. The young family then moved back to Calgary where their son, Garry, was born in 1951. Moving to Cold Lake in 1954, they found a fantastic community in which to raise their children. They had been happily residing there ever since. Viola loved working in her yard and was always proud of her flowers and garden. She loved curling and fishing. She also enjoyed golfing with Harry, family and friends. She loved camping, traveling and outings like picnics. She and Harry enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and house parties with all of their friends and neighbours. They also enjoyed their quiet time, sitting out on their patio watching the birds at the feeders, or inside doing jig-saw puzzles or catching the latest game on the Sports Channel, particularly curling, baseball, hockey and golf. Viola is lovingly survived by her husband Harry, and her three children: Myra (Arley) Cocks of Airdrie, Alberta; Sharon Dahlseide of Cold Lake, Alberta; Garry (Cheryl) Neudorf of Qualicum Beach, B.C. Grandchildren: Camille (Brian) Farr of Airdrie, Alberta; Bryan Cocks of Airdrie, Alberta; Sommer (Neil) Copley of Calgary, Alberta; Chad Dahlseide of Calgary, Alberta; Tynan Neudorf of Qualicum Beach, B.C; Blair Neudorf of Qualicum Beach, B.C; Dallas Neudorf of Qualicum Beach, B.C. Great-grandchildren: Jeremy Farr of Airdrie, Alberta and Justin Farr of Airdrie, Alberta. Viola is pre-deceased by all her immediate family of five brothers and 3 sisters. She is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews and their families. Many friends and neighbours also grieve her passing. It was Viola's wish to have a family only memorial service, which was held December 13, 2003 with Pastor Stefan Radke officiating. Cremation followed with interment to take place at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery in Cold Lake. The Neudorf family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to all friends and neighbours for their expressions of sympathy, concern and caring. Mrs. Mildred Louise Horton of Cold Lake, Alberta passed away at the age of 89 years. Mildred is lovingly survived by her husband: Leonard Horton of Cold Lake, AB; four children: Wilfred (Marlene) Horton of Swift Current, SK, Marilyn Horton of Chilliwack, BC, Marjorie (Gil) Bouchard of Cold Lake, AB Harold (Iris) Horton of Pierceland, SK; son-in-law: John Halyung of Maple Creek, SK; sister: Elsie Marr of Lloydminster, SK; ten grandchildren: Brent (Christine), Lynette (Bob), Eileen (Rob), Warren, Jean (Mike), Ruben, Wade, Tula (Mike), Melanie (Joe), Dallas; thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends & former students. Mildred was predeceased by her father: Robert; mother: Madeline; birth mother: Jessie; half-sister: Dorothy Losthe; daughter: Shirley Halyung; granddaughter: Teresa Stover; and great-grandson: Wesley Norton. A Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 15, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #211, Cold Lake, AB with Reverend David Lehmann officiating. Interment followed in the Lakeview Cemetery, Cold Lake, AB. Honorary pallbearers were: Lynette Hefner, Tula Paul, Ruben Stover, Melanie Horton. On Thursday, December 11, 2003 Mrs. Helena Unrau of Cold Lake, Alberta formerly of Pierceland, SK passed away at the age of 91 years. Helena is lovingly survived by her children: Elsie Arsenault of Cold Lake, AB, Dolores (Ervin) Hillaby of Cherry Grove, AB, Ken (Charlotte) Unrau of Cold Lake, AB, Wayne (Doreen) Unrau of Pierceland, SK, Nadine (Raymond) Baker of Cold Lake, AB, Rick Unrau of Cold Lake, AB, Jane Unrau of Chestermere, AB, Jack Unrau of Pierceland, SK; three brothers: George (Mina) Hein of Dawson Creek, BC, Corney (Margaret) Hein of Fort St. John, BC, Peter (Merle) Hein of Langley, BC; forty-one grandchildren; fifty-eight great-grandchildren; fourteen great great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Helena was predeceased by her husband: Peter Unrau; parents: Gerhard & Helena Hein; two daughters: Helen McKenzie & Louise Unrau; son: Daniel Unrau; five sisters and two brothers. Pianist was Sharon McRae. Interment followed in the Northern Pine Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were all Helena's other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. CARDINAL, Julia
On Wednesday, December 3, 2003 Mrs. Julia Cardinal of Bonnyville formerly of Elizabeth Settlement passed away at the age of 95 years. Mrs. Cardinal is survived by her daughters, Theresa Cardinal of Bonnyville, Shirley Dumais of Edmonton, Mary Collins of Bonnyville, Pearl (William) Cross of Frog Lake, Elaine (Henry) Watchmaker of Kehewin and Marlene Cardinal of Bonnyville, sons Joe Cardinal of Elizabeth and Jim Cardinal of Elizabeth, 4 half sisters Anne Tourangeau, Agnes Collins, Madeline Heath, and Marie Cardinal, 2 half brothers Lawrence Desjarlais and Walter Desjarlais, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Cardinal was predeceased by her husband Edward Cardinal, daughters, Rosie Grandbois and Madeline Dumais, sons William and Gabe Cardinal, sisters Bella Cardinal and Mary Collins, brothers Albert Desjarlais and Jim Desjarlais. A prayer vigil was held on Thursday and Friday December 4 and 5, 2003 at the Elizabeth Settlement Hall. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elizabeth Settlement Hall with Father David Bernard as the celebrant. Interment followed at the Elizabeth Settlement Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lester Collins, Elvis Cross, Keith Watchmaker, Kenny Dumais, Jody Cardinal, and Ray Dumais. Northern Lights Funeral Chapel Ltd. and funeral director Kelly Turzanski Serving Bonnyville, Cold Lake and Area were in care of funeral arrangements.
ALEXANDER WILLIAM (BILL) MOIR
May 17, 1927 - December 1, 2003
With heavy hearts and great sadness, we announce the passing of Alexander William (Bill) Moir. Dad slipped away peacefully in his sleep the afternoon of December 1, the birthday of his beloved wife, Vivian. those who celebrate his life and mourn his death are his children - Wendy (Steve) Flower; Carrie (Brad) Wilkins, Randy (Colleen) Moir, Mary (Chad White) and Matthew Flowers; Adam, Luke (Michelle), Sam, Ben, Ezra, Meggie, Kelsey and Anna Moir; great-grandchildren - Savannah Wilkins and Heather and Hailey Maker. Bill was predeceased by his wife Vivian (1994) and brother, Moe (1993). Dad was born in Edmonton May 17, 1927. he joined the RCAF on Jan. 4, 1951 as an AC2 and was commissioned from the rank of corporal April 1965. Bill rose to the rank of Major at the time of his retirement after serving 28 1/2 years with the forces. Upon his retirement, he and viv returned to Edmonton to be closer to their children. he worked for Public Works Supply and Services as an Operations Manager. He retired for a second time in 1987. after Viv's passing, Dad moved to Cold Lake and in with randy, Colleen and family to spend his last years. He will be greatly missed as a father, father-in-law, grandfather, G.G.P. and friend.

On March 14, 2003 Alex Horban of Bonnyville, AB passed away at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his loving wife Annie; three children: Peter from Vancouver, BC, William from Fort Kent, AB, Patricia (Louis) Boucher from Edmonton, AB and their two sons, Justin from Edmonton, AB and Vincent from Calgary, AB. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from Memento Funeral Chapel, Bonnyville, AB with Reverend Jope Langejans officiating. Interment followed at the Rife Cemetery, Rife, AB. Pallbearers were: Vincent Boucher, Justin Boucher, Michael Filipchuk, Ken Filipchuk, Garry Kissel, and Barry Kissel. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Bonnyville Extendicare for their compassionate care and support. Janet is lovingly survived by her two sons: Wayne (Deb) of Cold Lake, Don of Sylvan Lake; brother: Gordon (Val) Card of Clarmont, CA; sister: Doris (Bill) Robinson of Cheshire, OR; six grandchildren: Colby, Shaun, Jeremy, Brett, Natasha & Sam Robinson; two step-grandchildren: Ryan & Erin Willis. Janet was predeceased by her husband: Russ in 1989; son: Bill in 1985; three brothers: Bill, Al, Don and sister: Faye. A Public Visitation was held on Sunday, August 17, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. from Memento Funeral Chapel, Cold Lake, AB. A Funeral Service was held on Monday, August 18, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Cold Lake, AB with Reverend David Lehmann officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Church Cemetery. Honourary Pallbearers were: Butch and Linda Howe, Grant and Noreen Hetherington, Art and Vimy Josvanger, Kay and Jack Buckner. van Nieuwkerk
Hendrik (Hank) van Nieuwkerk, beloved husband of Maartje van Nieuwkerk of Brooks, passed away peacefully into God's hands with his family at his side, on Thursday, April 17th, 2003 at the age of 80 years.
Born in s'Gravenzande, Holland on February 17th, 1923 and married Maartje de Raaf, wife of 53 years, on October 13th, 1949 before immigrating to Canada in 1952. Hank worked on various farms in the Bassano-Rosemary area and also in Dundas, Ontario. He moved to Tilley in 1961 where he worked for Murray Ranches for 27 years, until he retired to Brooks in 1988.
Hank loved to garden in his wooden shoes, look after his flowers, spend time with his family and curl. He retained his sense of humour right until the end, and will be remembered for his wonderful smile, his friendly hello and his quiet ways.
Hank will be sadly missed by his loving family, wife, Maartje; 2 sons, Dick (Colleen) of Grande Prairie and Art (Darlene) of Grande Prairie; 2 daughters, Linda (Orval) Shantz of Brooks and Cathy (Dave) Thome of Medicine Hat; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Arie van Nieuwkerk of Brooks, Leen (Annie) van Nieuwkerk of Bashaw and William (Maartje) van Nieuwkerk of Australia; 3 sisters, Marie (Frans) Boers of Dundas, Joop (Martin) Huis of Holland and Tina (Frans) dan Harder of Holland and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 21st from Christian Reformed Church, Brooks. Reverend Christopher Fluit officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren, Sherry Cockerill, Mindy Cockerill, Heidi Cockerill and Nathan Thome. Active Pallbearers were grandsons, Jason van Nieuwkerk, Ryan van Nieuwkerk, Jeremy van Nieuwkerk, Brian Shantz, Joshua van Nieuwkerk and Mark Shantz.
