Robin Daryl Howery, of Calgary
Robin Daryl Howery, age 41, passed away suddenly on January 25th, 2005. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving companion Janice Strandlund of Calgary; parents Delbert and Evelyn Howery of Hanna; brothers Terry (Susan) of Calgary, Deland Howery of Calgary, and Kevin Howery of Hanna; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Robin was predeceased by his sister Idelle Rose Howery on January 22, 1962.
Robin was born in Hanna, Alberta on March 7th, 1963 where he spent all his formative years and made many friends along the way. Being the independent person he was, Robin struck out on his own at the age of 17.
Robin completed his High School education at Bow Valley College in Calgary and went on to study Electronics at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. However the lure of the oilfield captured Robin’s attention, and through hard work and determination Robin worked his way to the position of Driller. For the last several years Robin was employed by Wilson Drilling of Calgary.
Robin loved excitement and his “toys”. Whether it involved riding his Harley in summer, his snowmobile in the winter, Robin couldn't seem to get enough of it. He was also in the process of building a race car of which he was very proud. Robin also had a passion for music. He was a self taught guitarist and one of the things he enjoyed the most was to “jam” with his many musical friends. Robin had an innate ability to make friends wherever he went.
We will remember him as he was, be thankful we had a chance to know and love him, and know our lives are fuller and more complete because he was part of it. We love you “Rob”. You will be missed!

Sverre Slorstad, of Brooks
Sverre John “Tiny” Slorstad of Brooks, passed away in Brooks on Sunday, February 20th, 2005 at the age 81 years. Tiny was born in 1923 in Moss, Norway and in 1929 immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings. Their first home was in Iddesleigh and it was there that Tiny started school and was introduced to English. He never lost his connection to the life long friends he made while living there. The family moved to Hussar in 1933 and later to Bassano, but Tiny stayed and worked for different farmers. He had many good memories of this time. In 1943 he spent two years in the Canadian Army. After his discharge he went to work on the LV Douglass Ranch at Finnegan from 1946 to 1955. It was during this time he was given the nickname "Tiny". In 1952, he married Jean Clyne of Countess, and they purchased their first farm in 1953 at Finnegan. In 1955 after the birth of their first child they moved to the place that would be home for the next 50 years. Tiny’s love of the wide open spaces and the land at Sunnynook only grew more and more over time. In 1962 Bud Stewart and Tiny created Bud and Tiny Farms. They combined their lands on both sides of the river. Over the next 26 years they continued to expand the company. The partnership was very successful and when dissolved in 1988 was a large operation. Both partners now had family to continue the business. Bud’s family continues to operate on the south side of the river and Tiny’s sons formed Carolside Ranching and operate on the north side of the river. In 1990 Jean, his wife, passed away. It was shortly after this he started having health problems. But his love of life, his family and the ranch gave him the enthusiasm and the determination to live life as fully as possible. Tiny’s health forced him to move to Brooks in August 2004. He enjoyed his time at Orchard Manor but he lived for the trips back to the ranch and his family’s visits. His loader was replaced by his electric chair. He took great pride in the fact that his chair had no scrapes. Tiny will be remembered for the smile that was as big as he was. His friendly personality enabled him to make friends where ever he went. Tiny is survived by his daughter Doreen Medway (Jack) and their children Tanya, Cindy (Casey) and Tyler; his son, Bradley Slorstad (Norma) and their children Stephanie (Clayton), Carson and Bob; his youngest son, Kevin Slorstad (Teresa) and their children Thor and Abbey; his great grandchildren, Taylor and Nixon and numerous nieces and nephews. Tiny is also survived by his sister Bernice Porter and family of Cranbrook BC, brothers Eli and family of Saskatoon, and Ivar of Cranbrook, sisters-in-law Maureen Clyne and Gene Slorstad. Tiny was predeceased by his wife Jean, father John and mother Gurrid, brother Halvor, brothers-in-law Angus Clyne, Gordon Douglass, Harry Marquardt, sisters-in-law Margaret Douglass, May Slorstad and Betty Marquardt. The family would like to thank Dr. Folton for the long and supportive care. Also to all the wonderful nurses, and Doctors at the Peter Lougheed, and at the Brooks Health Center. Special thank you to all the caring, friendly people at Orchard Manor who helped Dad adjust to life in Town. He truly enjoyed your company. A special thank you to John for the coffee and visit everyday at 2 o’clock. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 26th From Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks. Rev. Dean Southern officiated. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Tiny’s family and friends. Active Pallbearers were Grant Veno, John Kaempf, Clayton Curry, Brent Horner, Leslie Douglass, Stratton Peake, Harold Christianson and John Bogi. All flowers are graciously declined. If so desired, donations may be made in Tiny's memory to the Pollockville Curling Club c/o of Pat Rooke, Box 1, Comp 6, Pollockville, AB T0J 2L0 or a charity of choice. Arrangements in care of SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Brooks.
