Marion Davis Hunter
(October 27, 1940 - January 30, 2012)
Marion Hunter, beloved wife of Bill and longtime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 30, 2012, after a brief illness.
Marion was born in Ardrossan, Scotland. Shortly after she and Bill married on November 11, 1961, they moved to Arran, Scotland where they began their family. In 1967, Bill and Marion decided to start a new chapter in their lives and immigrated to Canada in search of greater opportunities for their family.
Marion’s work life always revolved around working with and helping people. Her ever-present smile, sense of fun, and kind nature made her eminently suited to this kind of work.
Marion’s semi-retirement position as an Administrative Assistant in pediatrician Betty Robinson’s practice, gave her not only work she treasured, but a much-loved friend.
Marion loved spending time with her family, especially Ben and Ali, her cherished grandchildren.
With much love and heavy hearts, Marion will be sadly missed by Bill, her loving husband of 50 years, son David (Annette) Hunter, daughters Lesley (Gary) Krpan and Sarah Hunter, grandson Benjamin, and granddaughter Alison. She is also survived by aunt Margaret Russell, sisters Kay, Margaret (Gordon), Barbara (Raymond), and brother John (Irene), many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, all of Scotland.
Our family has also been blessed with an extended Canadian “Family” whose support, friendship and love meant the world to Marion. Although too many to mention, we know that you mourn her loss as well.
Marion was predeceased by her father William and mother Mary “Mamie” Montgomery.
A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at Forbes Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the QEII Hospital Foundation.

Ronald Edgar Brons
(June 15, 1944 - January 20, 2012)

Ronald’s ashes will be interred at the Grande Prairie Cemetery at a later date.

Susan Carlson
(March 13, 1926 - January 21, 2012)
Susan Carlson, resident of Valleyview, Alberta, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Valleyview Continuing Care Centre at the age of 85 years.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2:00pm at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel.

Douglas Boettcher, of Hanna
Douglas Henry Boettcher was born January 18, 1956 at Hanna, Alberta; he passed away suddenly February 12, 2005 at the age of 49 years.
Doug was raised on a ranch 18 miles south of Hanna, with his Mom, Dad, sister Karen and brother David. Doug’s family spent many hours working on the ranch, but weekends were left for their friends to enjoy jackpot ropings. These jackpots were the start of many successful rodeo years for Doug.
Doug attended the Homestead Coulee School until grade 10 and then finished his high school in Drumheller, Alberta. After graduating from high school he worked on the family ranch, as well as holding down many jobs on the side. He worked at the Hanna Stockyards and the Twin 4 Auction; here he spent hours training his cattle dogs. Doug’s love for children was brought about when he drove school bus for many years.
One of Doug’s life long dreams was to own his own ranch. He realized his dream, and made his home on his ranch until he died. Doug married Lana Grantham on November 1, 1980. They were blessed with a beautiful, blue eyed blonde, Jolaine Lisa, born October 20, 1983.
"Joey" as he always called her was the apple of his eye. He was happiest whenever she was by his side. Their love for each other grew while they conquered life’s special projects together. Doug was never a man to fuss over words, but he taught Joey many of the qualities that made her the wonderful young lady she is today. He was so proud of her.
Doug’s life was further enriched when he met a very special friend, Lori May Miller, in 1998. Doug lured her to the cowboy way. Together they rodeoed and ranched and enjoyed their short time together.
Doug rodeoed extensively throughout his life. He was a member of the Foothills Cowboy’s Association, the Canadian Cowboy’s Association, and the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association. He earned his Gold Card status and became a lifetime member of the CPRA in 2002. Doug’s accomplishments in the rodeo arena were vast. He won numerous Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Wild Cow Milking and All Around titles. The Canadian Wild Cow Milking title he earned in 2004 was his final accomplishment in the rodeo arena. Doug also enjoyed team roping with his friends, and barrel racing with Joey and Lori, and on occasion was even known to run the barrels himself. He was an active rancher, Director of the Feeder Association, as well as president of the Bullpound Community Pasture.
During his short time with us, Doug touched the lives of many people, horses and dogs. He loved his family, his friends, his horses, his dogs, his ranch, and his rodeo. Doug’s ability to single handedly accomplish all that he did in life was done with a lot of heart and pure try….that was what Doug was really all about "pure try".
