Longtime resident of Grande Prairie and Grovedale area, passed away peacefully at the QEII Hospital on Sunday, February 5, 2012 after celebrating his 92 birthday.
He was born February 1, 1920 in Teddington, England. At the age of 5 he travelled the ocean blue to his home in Wynyard, Saskatchewan where he spent his younger years. Shortly after High School, he joined the R.C.A.F. and took up learning the trade of an aircraft mechanic. He met the love of his life, Marguerite Webb at a local dance in Lethbridge. They were married in August, 1945 and settled down in Calgary. Dad became an auto mechanic and worked at Stampede Motors. Eventually he opened up a new B/A service station on Simons Valley Road. Later, the family moved to Edmonton and he started working for Jenner Motors. It was during this time that he sent in an application to attend the U of A Education Program. At age 41 with 5 children in tow, Dad moved to Grande Prairie and became a vocational teacher at the new Composite High School teaching automotives. He taught for 23 years and then retired to a life in the country where he enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing bridge, dancing, talking on his CB and eventually his Ham radio. He loved the outdoor life sitting on his porch waiting to seeing an animal pass by. In his spare time he learned how to make wine and had great success at this. He continued to repair cars well into his later years. He shared his last dance with me a few weeks ago at his home at Heritage Lodge and still was a smooth dancer. He enjoyed his many friends and family and having a good laugh or telling stories.
He is survived by his daughter Patricia (Garry) Roessler, sons Michael (Tina), James, daughter Kathleen (Barry) Mykytuk and son Paul, his sister Daphne (Michael) Puszka of Victoria, B.C, sister in-law Vi Wright of Pentiction, B.C. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
