Emily Omilon
(November 21, 1933 - February 6, 2012)
It is with great sorrow that the family of Emily announce her passing on Monday, February 6, 2012 at the age of 78 years. Emily moved to Grande Prairie in 1961 and was instrumental in developing the junior girls golf program at the Grande Prairie Golf Club. Emily also shot her one and only hole-in-one at this course and in fact was the first female to do so at that location. Emily enjoyed curling and golfing and was very sad when health problems required her to stop, however she was able to still feel involved in golf by working at the Wee Links Pitch and Putt for many years. Many of her friends and family remember the annual golf tournaments hosted by her and her husband, Bob, at this course and at their house after. In 1980, Emily married the love of her life, Bob, and they enjoyed 27 very happy years, gardening, hunting and visiting with friends. Life was not the same for Emily after Bob passed in 2007.
Emily is survived by her grieving daughters: Cheryl (Alan), and Michelle (Lance), and her husband's loving children: Kevin (Robyn) and Candace (Phillip). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Brad, Melissa, Dallas, Courtney, Colby, Michael, Sean, Anastasia, Hannah, Esther, Alex, Shayna and Wade and three great-grandchildren. Emily is also survived by a brother, Fred and three sisters: Helen, Lucy and Marlene and many friends.
Emily's family would like to thank the following people for all of their help especially since Bob's passing - Rod and Barb, Cam and Cathy, Gord and Hazel, Mark and Judy, and Sharon.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00am at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel.
Rest in peace Mom (Baba). We know you are finally happy in the loving arms of your husband.
George Metro Predy
(February 26, 1922 - February 3, 2012)
After a long life, George Predy passed away from complications of pneumonia on Friday, February 3, 2012. George, who would have celebrated his 90th birthday this month, was surrounded by family at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
George was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta on February 26, 1922. In the spring of 1946 he filed on homestead land in Hotchkiss, Alberta. He made a lifelong commitment to mixed farming, trucking and sawmills. George met Annie Brown, a school teacher, in 1948. They married December 3, 1949. George and Annie continued with the farm for 52 years. George and Annie retired to an acreage in Bezanson, Alberta in December 2000 and sold the farm at Hotchkiss in 2001. The family helped George and Annie create a beautiful landscaped yard where they moved a modular home onto bare land.
George’s hobbies included crib playing, fishing, hunting, woodworking, rug hooking, camping and gardening. George had a fascination for creating things to make a job easier and his arthritis more manageable. He loved to show his slides and photographs to everyone and was very proud of his woodwork. Up until his last year he was still building park benches, wishing wells, planters and picture frames. George had a passion for growing sunflowers. George was a sociable man and did not like to be alone. He was a wonderful mentor, courageous and generous.
George leaves to cherish his memory daughters Carol (Ken) Wright of Calgary, Sandi Predy of Grande Prairie, Lorri Predy (Lorne Scobie) of Grande Prairie; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-granddaughter; 2 elder brothers Michel (Helen) of Edmonton, Neil of Peace River; several nieces and nephews and very special friend/caregiver, Tess Mayo.
George was predeceased by his wife on April 3, 2009.
Special thanks to Dr. V. Duta, caregivers Tess Mayo and Catherine Thompson, Grande Prairie Care Centre staff, Home Care attendants and Dr. M. Strydom for their extensive care and compassion that could not be surpassed.
Memorial celebration of George’s life will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 2:00pm at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or Alberta Orthopedic Society.
