Myrtle Edith Stokke, longtime resident of Wembley and then Grande Prairie, passed away at the Grande Prairie Care Centre on February 1, 2012 at the age of 91 years.
Myrt was born on July 13, 1920 in Edmonton, Alberta, the youngest of four children to William and Minnie George. She told us of many adventures of her childhood. She came up to Wembley to work for the Stokke’s at harvest time and met Wes Stokke who she would marry on February 12, 1938. They had four children. Wes and Myrt farmed their entire life east of Wembley until their retirement in 1961. They were also longtime members of Wembley Baptist Church.
Myrt participated in curling and had fond memories of many fun times at bonspiels. Following and watching her children participate and succeed at their many sports endeavors also brought her great pleasure. She was a great cook and we will miss her meals, squares and pies. She was very proud of her entire family and especially enjoyed the great-grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed day trips around the peace country with Ray and many of her grandchildren. She even went on a riverboat ride at Pipestone at the age of 90.
