Kim Marie Bessel
(May 3, 1956 - May 11, 2011)
Kim Marie Bessel, resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the age of 55.
Kim was born to Helen and Leslie Froelich in Wausau, Wisconsin on May 3, 1956.
Kim has resided in Grande Prairie since 2005. Prior to that she lived in Calgary, AB for 15 years. She was a wife and mother, homemaker, gardener and musician who loved the outdoors and camping.
Kim had a tireless commitment to serving others and her Lord. Her heart for ministry was a huge encouragement to many.
My soul finds rest in God alone; My salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62: 1-2
Kim is survived by her husband Dettmar; sons, Daniel and Timothy; parents, Leslie and Helen Froelich; siblings, Kaye, Kurt (Deanna), Karla (Charles) Simmons, Kenny (Sheila); and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in the United States.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 10:00am at the Grande Prairie Alliance Church (15502 102 Street).
The family gratefully declines any flowers, please make memorial donations to Samaritan’s Purse Canada (Christmas Shoe Box Fund) 20 Hopewell Way NE, Calgary, AB T3J 5H5.

Nicholas Matt Bilawchuk
(June 1, 1924 - May 11, 2011)
Nicholas Bilawchuk, 86, passed away on May 11, 2011 at MacKenzie Place in Grande Prairie. Surviving are his son David Bilawchuk; two daughters Judy Gushlak and Janice Pederson; grandchildren Myron Gushlak, Brad Gushlak, Denise Landry, Steven Bilawchuk, Tara Lowe, Erin Lowe, Blayke Pederson and nine great-grandchildren.
Nick was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Anne; daughter Debbie Lowe; parents Matt and Aksanna Bilawchuk; in-laws Peter and Mary Paish and son in-law Carmen Pederson.
Nick was born in Stuartburn, Manitoba on June 1, 1924. As a young man he moved with his parents to a homestead north of Spirit River. Nick lived and farmed in the community of Devale all his adult life until he retired to Spirit River. When they were no longer able to live in their own home Nick and Anne moved to Emerald Gardens in Grande Prairie. Shortly after Anne’s passing Nick moved to MacKenzie Place for the remainder of his days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada if so desired.
Funeral services will be held at the Spirit of the Peace Church in Spirit River on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 11:00 am.

Elsie May Ames-Reid
(March 13, 1911 - May 15, 2011)
Mrs. Elsie Ames-Reid passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the age of 100.
She was born on the family farm in Justice, Manitoba and was a longtime resident of Bezanson, Alberta with her last years spent at the Pioneer Lodge in Grande Prairie.
She is survived by her husband of eight years Wilfred Reid; her grandchildren Jean (Chris) Miller, Ernie (Debbie) Mitchell and Howard Mitchell; great-grandchildren Aaron (Tara) Miller and family, Kelly (Michelle) Miller and family, Katrina (Rick) Palfi and family, Justin Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell, Tara (Rod) Peters and family, Jason Mitchell and family; and numerous great great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Elsie (Gran) was predeceased by her only son Prince and first husband Charlie as well as her brothers Howard, Jim, Laval, and Clarence; her sisters Eura, Grace and Cynthia.
Funeral service for the late Elsie Ames-Reid will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:00am at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel with Pastor Doug Webb officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Margaret Ellen CRAIG
CRAIG, Margaret Ellen - 1920 - 2011. Margaret, beloved wife of the late Robert Craig, both formerly of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, AB, on January 12, 2011. Margaret is survived by her son, Roger (Linda) Craig; two daughters, Sheila (Jim) Van Camp, and Moira (Todd) Reitsma; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Craig of 63 years, and son, Richard Craig. Margaret was born in Kent, England, to Albert and Ellen Walker, met a young Canadian soldier who she married in 1943 amidst WWII. She later travelled to Canada to join her husband and begin raising a family. Margaret was very active in the community: Past President: 1971-72, 1984-85, 1991-92, and Lifetime Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Br #27; as well as Past-President for the Fort Saskatchewan Figure Skating Club. The Memorial Service, officiated by Reverend David Lehmann and saluted by the Ladies Auxiliary Honour Guard, was held at the Riverview Funeral Chapel, Fort Saskatchewan, AB, on January 19th, 2011. Margaret has now joined her husband in the Legion Field of Honour. In lieu of flowers, family request donations to: Edmonton SPCA, 10806 - 124 Street NE, Edmonton, AB, T5M 9Z9 or Canadian Cancer Society, Suite 200 - 325 Manning Road NE, Edmonton, AB T2E 9Z9.

Mary Elizabeth Dodd
(February 28, 1949 - May 13, 2011)
After a short battle with cancer Mary Dodd of Sexsmith passed away on Friday, May 13, at the age of 62. Mary was born in Edmonton on February 28, 1949. She taught school in Castor and Sexsmith until starting her family in 1975. Later in life she enjoyed working for H&R; Block.
Recently Mary enjoyed her many travels with friends and family. She also spent time visiting her children and enjoying coffee with her close friends.
Mary will be forever cherished by her loving husband of 36 years, Russell; son Trevor (Bernadette) of Stony Plain; son Mark of Calgary; daughter Elizabeth of Sexsmith; her siblings Leon (Beth) MacKeage, Carol (Don) Dayton, Sharon (Fred) Cazon, Robert MacKeage, and Audrey Jackson; her step-siblings Connie (Cliff) Otto, Dave May, and Ed (Sharon) May; her husband’s siblings Lorraine (Tom) Glendinning, Bernard Dodd, Brian Dodd and sister-in-law Pat Dodd; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Lee and Vera MacKeage; step-mother Dora MacKeage; sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Arland Reil; father-in-law and mother-in-law Alvin and Nora Dodd; and sister-in-law Janet Dodd.
The family would like to thank the staff at the University of Alberta Hospital, Cross Cancer Institute, QEII Emergency Department, Cancer Clinic, and Palliative Care Unit for their special care and support.
A service to honour Mary’s life will be held at 1pm on Thursday, May 19th at Clairmont United Church; interment to follow at Emerson Trail Cemetery. There will be a viewing at Oliver’s Funeral Chapel on Wednesday evening at 7-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital Foundation for the Cancer Clinic or Palliative Care unit.
