Travis Wayne Willmott
June 25, 1967 - September 13, 2012
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Travis Wayne Willmott, resident of Grande Prairie AB. Travis passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at age 45.
Travis was born June 25, 1967 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He grew up in Sherbrooke, NS where he was the seventh of nine siblings. His brothers and sisters hold fond memories of growing up together and making sure Travis knew he was loved and protected. As a 12 year old Travis had the lead role in a CBC production titled Yesterday’s People. A movie filmed in Sherbrooke which he still talked about fondly years later. Travis attended St Mary’s Rural High School in Sherbrooke. His education was ongoing throughout his life, having attained several certificates and tickets.
Travis had a variety of jobs throughout Nova Scotia and Alberta during his life including, pulpwood cutter, emergency responder, animal control officer, sea urchin diver, security officer, roughneck, motorhand, safety advisor, and most recently as a heavy equipment operator for Tervita. All who had the pleasure of working with Travis would have a story to tell, and hold fond memories of their times together.
To anyone that knew Travis it was obvious that the job he loved the most was being a Dad to Candace Marie and Tyler Jurgen. His face would light up whenever he spoke about them or was around them. Travis thought the world of his children and had no problem letting the world know how amazing they were. He was proud to be a Willmott, he loved his family unconditionally and was loved by his family, including Aunts and Uncles, unconditionally.
Travis’ interests were as varied as his jobs. He was an avid hockey player and a huge fan of Wayne Gretzky. He never did forgive the Oiler’s for trading 99. Travis was a certified scuba diver, held a motorcycle licence, loved hunting and being outdoors. He spent time as an umpire and player on the ball diamond where the Wilmott siblings were known to field an impressive team. His siblings remember fondly games of horseshoes with bragging rights involved. Travis loved music and was known to break out into song and have those around him stop to listen. Travis also had a mischievous side that loved playing practical jokes on people; it was only a matter of time before he got you. He was good sport and would even enjoy a good prank at his expense. With the one exception being his Saskatchewan Rough Riders. They were off limits. Travis had a beautiful spirit and enjoyed life. He was quick with his words and could build you up or knock you down a peg or two, depending on what was required. Travis had a contagious smile and a twinkle in his eye we will all miss.
Now that Travis has been called home he will now be at rest with his father Henry John Willmott, his mother Dorothy Anne MacIntosh Wilmott-Fleet and stepfather Murray Ansel Fleet. Aunts and Uncles that made the journey before him will also be there to welcome him home. Travis will also be reunited with his confidant and partner in many pranks Ziggy Seewald.
Join Travis’ children Candace Marie and Tyler Jurgen, his fiancée Pauline Thomas and his family Gary (Hertha, Adam, Andrew, Ashley), Dennis, Chris “Liver” (Karen, Jordan, Ryan) Roy (Jennifer), Kimball (Sandy, Tysha, Leanza), Michelle (Everett, Tyson, Devon), Lori-Anne (Freddy, Paige, Kristen, Marcus) and Tracey (Ryan, Benjamin, Avery) in celebrating his life.
Celebrations will be taking place in Grande Prairie AB and Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia, on Thursday, September 20, 2012. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 8:00-9:00pm at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel, with a service being held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 3:00pm at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel. Travis will then travel home to Sherbrooke, NS where a service will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church in Sherbrooke, NS on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a trust fund for son Tyler Willmott at Royal Bank of Canada (Account# 05949-5042163).
