Lloyd Richards, 85, of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Stanley and Maria Richards. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie.
He received his early childhood education in Glace Bay then Mt. A University and Columbia University, N.Y. He taught school at G.B.H.S. before joining military service. After the war he taught at United Church College in Montreal and Calgary and then as head of the math department at Viscount Bennett College in Calgary till his retirement. He was active in various community services, boy scouts, cancer education and with the mentally challenged.
He is survived by sons, Ronnie (Elinor), Corner Brook, Nfld., David, Calgary, Robert (Donna), Landsdown, Ont. and two granddaughters, Hilary and Laura; sisters, Marguerite (Aubrey) Caldwell, Round Island, Jean (Wm) Buchanan, Glace Bay, Vera (Sam) and Jennings, Halifax.
Predeceased by brother, Ivor and sisters, Mary and Alice.
Cremation took place. A memorial service was held with Rev. Catherine Pace officiating.
Lloyd had a great love for Cape Breton and made frequent visits to Mira. The service concluded with his favourite song “Out on the Mira” sung by his daughter Laura.
Alvin Frederick Nash

Alvin Frederick Nash passed away on Oct. 31, 1999.
He is survived by his loving family, wife Patricia; daughter Jennifer; two sons, Stephen (Marilyn) and Scott (Lynne); and seven grandchildren, Chris (Bill), Danny, David, Jackie, Sarah, Michael and Jonathan.
He was born in Glace Bay, N.S. and served overseas in World War Two and Korea. Upon retirement from military service, he worked for the Alberta Children’s Hospital. He was a Past Master of St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge, No. 118 and also a Past Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star. A private family service will be held according to Al’s wishes. Interment in the ‘Field of Honour’ at Queen’s Park Cemetery.

Brian Edward Callaghan

Brian Edward Callaghan, 24, passed away suddenly in Red Deer, Alberta.
Born in North Sydney, N.S., he was employed in Alberta as an oil field worker. He was a son of the late Bernard Callaghan and Anna Leonora (Boldon) Callaghan.
He is survived by two sisters Nancy Tyler of Fredericton, N.B., and Elaine Callaghan of Kitchener, Ont.; a brother Bernard and Monica of Chatham, N.B.; four nephews; a niece; several aunts and uncles.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, N.B. The funeral service will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at 2 p.m. Interment to take place at a later date.
Blair Morrison
42, Edmonton / Glace Bay, N.S.
Blair Patrick Morrison, 42, of Edmonton, and a former resident of Water Street, Glace Bay, passed away Dec. 6, 1999, in Edmonton.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Daniel and Leona (Doyle) Morrison. Blair was an employee of the Laborers’ Union in Alberta. At one time he was a member of Holy Cross Church in Glace Bay.
He is survived by his wife, the former Beverly Strachan; two daughters, Danielle and Dana, both in Edmonton; two brothers, Donnie (Rita), Shubenacadie and Kevin (Gail), Marion Bridge.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Leo and Daniel James.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Blair Morrison

Blair Patrick Morrison, 42, of Edmonton, and a former resident of Water Street, Glace Bay, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, in Edmonton.
Cremation has taken place in Edmonton.
Family will receive relatives and friends Friday, Dec. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999 at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. John Graham officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Mary Eileen Morrison
50, Edmonton
Mary Eileen Morrison, formerly of Main Street, Glace Bay, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at the Royal Alexendra Hospital in Edmonton, Alta., following a lengthy illness. She was age 50.
Mary Eileen was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Gertrude (Gillis) Morrison.
Mary Eileen taught for many years in the province of Alberta, primarily in the community of Fox Creek. She was a member of many community service boards in that community. She was attentive to the needs of children, many of whose interests she fostered.
She is survived by two brothers, Ronald and Cameron, both of Halifax. Besides many cousins in Cape Breton, Mary Eileen is survived also by her sisters-in-law, Pauline and Lyn; her nephew, Scott and her niece, Katherine.
Funeral arrangements were completed in her community of Fox Creek.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation.
