Sister Mary Evangelista Curtis, a Sister of Saint Martha, died at St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge, Alta., on Dec. 30, 2000, at the age of 83.
Born in Trepassy, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late William and Josephine (O’Neil) Curtis. She was the third oldest in a family of five children.
Sister Evangelista entered the Sisters of Saint Martha, Antigonish, N.S., in September, 1937. In 1939, she was assigned to St. Martha’s Hospital, and then to St. Francis Xavier University, both in Antigonish, where she ministered in the household management field for 22 years.
She continued in this ministry serving five years at St. Augustine’s Seminary, Toronto; two years at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney, N.S.; five years at St. Pius X Seminary, Ottawa; and briefly at Bethany, our motherhouse in Antigonish. Sister spent her last years of active service, 1978 to 1998, ministering to the sick and elderly in the residence of St. Michael’s Hospital and St. Michael’s Health Centre (Auxiliary), Lethbridge, Alta. Sister remained in Lethbridge until her death.
Sister Evangelista is survived by one sister, Ethel LeBlanc, of New Brunswick.
She was predeceased by one sister, Loretta; and two brothers, Thomas and Michael.
The remains are resting at Cornerstone Funeral Home, Lethbridge, Alta., and will be transferred to Bethany, the motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Martha in Antigonish, N.S. on Thursday, Jan. 4. A celebration of vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening and the liturgy of Christian burial will be Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish.
Vincent Alexander (Sonny) Jamieson

Vincent Alexander (Sonny) Jamieson, passed away peacefully at home in Calgary, Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000.
He will be missed by six children, Stella, Vince, Darryl, Joe, Kim, Neil; four sisters, Elaine, Yvonne, Marilyn and Marie; two brothers, Cecil and Tommy.
Interment at Queen’s Park Cemetery, Calgary.

Blair Roberts, 49, of Fort McMurray, Alberta, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at home surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Sydney Mines, N.S., he was the son of Mayme (Boutilier) Roberts of North Sydney and the late John Norman Roberts.
Besides his mother he is survived by his wife, Laura; daughter, Nicole; brother, John, Dartmouth; sister, Mary (Mrs. Donald MacNeil), Christmas Island, N.S.; and a nephew, Jeffrey Roberts, Dartmouth.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Hospital St.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Home Care Department at Northern Lights Regional Health Center, 7 Hospital St., Fort McMurray, Alberta, T9H 1P2.
William (Billy) Coish
47, Ponoka, Alta.
On Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, family received word that Billy, a long time resident of Ponoka, Alta. and formerly of New Waterford, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a loving son of the late Clarence E. Coish and Theresa N. (Muise) Coish. He was also predeceased by a younger sister, Bernice Ann.
At the time of his passing he was employed as a steel worker at IPSCO. Inc.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by long time companion, Wendy Rinsky and her family, all of Ponoka; also left to mourn the loss of Billy are his stepmother, Marie Coish, New Waterford; two brothers, Clarence J., Langley, B.C. and Eddy (Debbie), Dartmouth; three sisters, Louise Coish, Halifax, Mrs. Marie (Conrad) Kalbhenn, New Waterford, Dianne Coish, Dartmouth; three stepbrothers Steve Carrigan, Kelowna, B.C., Bruce Carrigan, Winnipeg, and David Carrigan, New Waterford; two stepsisters, Colleen Kane, Kelowna, B.C., and Lorie MacKenzie, New Waterford.
Cremation has taken place in Ponoka, Alta. A Memorial mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan, Jan. 12, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Ellen Lavinia Williamson, 70, of Lancaster Park, Alta., died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in the Sturgeon Community Hospital, St. Albert, Alta.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Myrtle (Richardson) Price.
She was a lifelong resident of Scotchtown and moved to Alberta in 1997 with her daughter, Shirley and son-in-law, Darrell. Ellen enjoyed bingo and playing cards,
Surviving are sons, Cecil (Diane), Rossland, B.C.; Robert, Scotchtown; daughters, Cynthia (James), Montrose, B.C., Shirley (Darrell), Lancaster Park, Alta; brother, Billy Price, Scotchtown; sisters, Dorothy Preston, Ontario, Eva Ryan, New Waterford, and Shirley Chopeck, Scotchtown; grandchildren, Wade, Dawn, Rob, Kara, Robert, Katelyn, Darrell and Natasha.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Joe) in 1987.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Sunday, Jan. 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Tuesday, 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Capt. Maxwell Snow officiating. Burial to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In Ellen’s memory, donations may be made to the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation or the N.S. Lung Association.
David Allen Frost
1962-2001
David Allen Frost, 38, of Calgary, Alta., died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Foot Hills Hospital, Calgary, after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney, N.S., Sept. 7, 1962, to Robert and Donna (Peters) Frost.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; sons, Christopher, 10 years, and twins, Mitchell and daughter, Madison, 18 months. Also survived by a brother, Robbie; sister, Kelly; grandfather, Harold G. Peters, Sydney; aunts, uncles and cousins in Sydney.
He was predeceased by his grandmother, Katherine Peters and Ralph and Lil Frost of Sydney River.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, Calgary on today (Saturday), Feb. 17.

Thelma (Budge) Burrage

We the family received news of the death of our sister, Thelma, who died suddenly on Monday, March 26, 2001, at home in Calgary, where she resided with her best friends, Mike and Debbie.
Thelma was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edna (Townsend) Budge.
She is survived by a daughter, Ruthie and a grandson, Wally, both of Calgary, Alta.; sisters, Gloria Rounds, U.S.A., Betty MacPherson, Colleen McKinnon and a brother, Joseph Budge, all of New Waterford; mother-in-law, Chris Burrage, Neil’s Harbour. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends in New Waterford, Neil’s Harbour, Calgary and the U.S.A.
Cremation has taken place following a service in Calgary on April 2, 2001.
