SIEGL -- Maria, aged 73 years, of Calgary, passed away November 6, 1997 at her residence. Beloved mother of Maggie Flynn (Neil), St. Albert, Hans Siegel (Anna Mae) of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Mark Siegel, Carla-Marie Peebles, Tania Nahulak, Brandy Flynn, Michael Nahulak and Melody Flynn. Born in Vienna, Austria, she came to Edmonton, Canada in 1952. She was President of the United Ostomy Association of Canada and devoted many years to improving the quality of life for Ostomates worldwide. SMITH -- Darcy Lee Smith, of Okotoks, born June 28, 1962 at High River, passed away at the High River Hospital on November 7, 1997. Darcy leaves to mourn his loving wife Maureen, son Jordan and daughter Tori-Lee. He was the eldest son of Ray Smith and Iris Smith and brother to Kim (Richard), Dan (Juanita) and Shaun (Annette). He was a favourite uncle to Tyler, Christie, Kieshia and Erin. He also leaves to mourn his mother-in-law Agnes Peters and her family; and grandmother Dorothy Lawrence of Black Diamond. He will be lovingly remembered by his long time and closest friends, Paul Poulin, James Percival and Bev Jerrett. Darcy was predeceased by his grandfather Douglas Lawrence and grandparents, Jack and Hazel Taylor (Hemus). He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as the loving and caring friend who always had good things to say to everyone. His greatest pride was the fact that he was a Captain with the Okotoks Volunteer Fire Department. Darcy was educated in Okotoks and worked as a cook and baker at several Okotoks locations, most recently under Don Gilbert as assistant manager at the I.G.A. bakery. Don and his employees became good friends and supporters of his family during his courageous struggle with his illness. Darcy will be missed by his many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. WATSON -- Mr. George Verdun (Verd) Watson slipped away quietly at the Peter Lougheed Centre on November 7, 1997 at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years Ruth; son Charles (Marg); daughters, Donna (Peter) Cameron and Jeannette (Bill) Murray; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren. ABRAMENKO -- Mrs. Nora Abramenko, of Calgary, passed away at the George Boyack Nursing Home on November 10, 1997 at the age of 90 years. Nora was born in Russia and came to Canada with her father, the late Paul Baronets in 1923, where they settled in Three Hills, Alberta. In 1928, she married Ehnaty Abramenko and together they farmed in the Three Hills district until the 1940's, when they moved to Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Ehnaty (Uncle "E"), in 1986. Nora had resided in the George Boyack Nursing Home for the past eighteen years. Her niece Em Morrison, wishes to express her sincere appreciation to the Fourth Floor Staff of the George Boyack, for the years of care that Nora received, especially in the past few months. Funeral Services will be held at LEYDEN'S "Chapel of Remembrance" (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.), on Thursday, November 13, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Services to follow at Union Cemetery. BISHOP -- Bruce Armitage, at his home in North Hatley, November 10, 1997, leaving his wife Helene Beaulieu; his former wife Beatrice Glassco of Abbotsford, B.C., mother of his three daughters, Gail Filgueira (Julio) of Georgetown, Ontario, Judith Nesbitt (Ron) of Oakville, Ontario and Ann McCracken (Ron) of Calgary, Alberta; five grandchildren, Tara and Kerrie Nesbitt, Casey, Niki and Amy McCracken. The brother of Dean Bishop (Sherbrooke, Quebec), and the late Craig Bishop (Halifax, N.S.). According to his wishes, his body was donated to the CUSE for medical research and transplants. He was as generous in death as he was in life. He will be deeply missed. A Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church in North Hatley.
CORKERY -- Leonard Michael. On November 10, 1997, Leonard Michael Corkery of Lacombe, Alberta passed away at home with peace and courage at the age of 65 years. Len is survived by his loving wife Tenny (Kathleen); sister Marion (Hugh) Savage of Edmonton; brothers, Bryan (Sylvia) Corkery of Ponoka, Ray (Ardath) Corkery of Dawson Creek, B.C. Len was predeceased by his mother and father, Ella and Tim Corkery of Lacombe. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Helen (Ron) Bailey of Camrose and Doreen (Orval) Madill of Red Deer, Alberta; along with numerous nieces and nephews, and a wealth of friends.
