Jordin was surrounded by his family and friends during his final hours. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his mother Tracy Ekencrantz; his family and many extended family members, "The girls" of N cluster; and everyone with whom he has been in contact with in the last five years at Alberta Children's Hospital. A special thank you to everyone who gave their love and support for the past two months. Your love and caring has not gone unnoticed. HUNTER -- Mrs. Dorothy Hunter of Forest Grove Care Centre, after suffering a stroke in Peter Lougheed Hospital, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, November 9, 1997, with her son Douglas at her bedside. She is survived by sons, Donald of Red Deer, Alberta, and Robert of Kitimat, B.C., and several grandchildren. Two sisters reside in Calgary, Edna Wells, Myrtle MacLean (John), and a brother Walter Rideout in Edmonton. A Graveside Service will be held at Union Cemetery, 11:00 a.m., November 13.
KALBFEISCH -- Marion Leila Joan (McBride), eldest daughter of the late Charles and Lilian McBride, passed away after a valiant eleven year battle with cancer. Born in Red Deer, July 31, 1920, she moved with her family to Calgary in 1968. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Harry LaFonte; one sister, Mae (Ed) Matthews of Sherwood Park; three daughters Candy (Brian) eager, Judith (Stan) Johnston of Calgary, Brenda (Ray) Leeming of Kelowna; seven loving grandchildren; a great grandson and an aunt, Fred Alberta McBride of Victoria. She will be sadly missed by numerous cousins in Canada, England and Australia and many caring and loyal friends. JOan was predeceased by her younger sister Jerril (Ed) Ozeroff. The McBride family were old-timers and hardware merchants in both Calgary and Red Deer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the Riverview United Church Chapel with internment of ashes to follow at the City of Red Deer Cemetery. A tree will be planted in her memory at Fish Creen Park.
KITCHER -- Gladys Kitcher of Vancouver, B.C. passed away on November 9, 1997 on her 100th birthday and then went to celebrate it with her Lord. Predeceased by her husband Eric, and daughter Ruth Geraldine Rasmussen, her sisters, Ina Slater, Hillary Robertson, brothers, Gordon Cleland and John Cleland. She will be lovingly remembered by her son-in-law Dr. Roy L. Rasmussen; grandchildren, Greg, Brian (Riitta) and Lori Rasmussen; nieces and nephews, especially Gordon and Ann-Marie Robertson; also by great-nieces and great-nephews. LAVERDURE -- Mrs. Mabel Laverdure of Calgary passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on November 7, 1997 at the age of 76 years. She is survived by her loving husband Edward of Calgary; her children, Gordon (Pat) of Airdrie, Ronald (Lora) of Kelowna and Lorraine (Mark) of Calgary; five grandchildren, Wesley, Katelyn, Cody, Kassidy and Jesse; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. LEATHERDALE -- Neil Keith Leatherdale of Olds, Alberta passed away Saturday, November 8, 1997 at the age of 79 years at Foothills Hospital Calgary, Alberta as a result of complications brought about by pneumonia. Neil was born February 28, 1918 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Neil together with his two brothers, Dick and Lyall and sister Betty grew up in Fort Frances, Ontario. Following his discharge from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943, Neil moved to Olds, Alberta where he entered the newspaper field, publishing the Olds Gazette, a career that spanned fifty-three years. Neil was predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Eliza Leatherdale, brothers, Dick and Lyall, one son William Neil. Mourning his passing is his wife of fifty-five years, Norma; and children Brian (Edna), Marlynn, Mary Jane Harper, Leslie (Monica), all of Olds; grandchildren, Tammy Graham, Scott (Sandi) Leatherdale, Tanya (Murray) Schaber, Todd Leatherdale, Shawna Leatherdale, Brad Harper, Stacey (Danny) Carefoot, Chad Harper, Daniel Leatherdale, Lisa Leatherdale; great-grandchildren, Christopher Graham, Reanne and Emma Schaber, MacAulay Carefoot, Zachary Leatherdale. Neil is also survived by his sister Betty (George) Beaushene of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; sisters-in-law Marjorie and Lydia Leatherdale of Fort Frances, Ontario; and numerous niece and nephews. Neil's commitment to the community in which he lived was extensive having served as Olds Town Councillor, school trustee, hospital board trustee, member of Olds College Board of Governors and Red Deer College Board of Governors and appointments to many boards and committees locally and provincially. He was past Worshipful Master of the Mountain View Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M.; life member of B.P.O.E. Olds Elks Lodge No. 100 and life member of Royal Canadian Legion. McCONNELL -- Teddy Raymond McConnell, beloved husband of Mrs. Mia McConnell of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on November 9, 1997 at the age of 74 years. Besides his loving wife, Ted is survived by his children, Darryl (Marilyn) McConnell of Etobicoke, Ontario, Darlene (Jim) Scott of Calgary, Alberta, Brian McConnell of Calgary, Alberta, Susan (Carl) Nanni of Thornhill, Ontario, Judy (Shane) Coultis of Banff, Alberta, and Ted (Gloria) Patterson of Banff, Alberta. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brent and Colleen McConnell, Victoria and Cynthia Scott, David and Kevin Nanni, Shane, Brandi and Cory Coultis; great-grandchild Bailey; his older brother John McConnell of Moncton, New Brunswick; and his many beloved nieces, nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Sarah McConnell, brothers and sisters, Viola, Lorne, Daisy, Nina, Robert and his infant son Gary. Ted was born March 27, 1923 in Moncton, New Brunswick where he was raised and educated. In 1944 he married Doreen (Peggy) Wilson with whom he raised four children. Employed by Eastern Bakeries, he was an active member of the First United Baptist Church. In 1958, he moved to Calgary with his family where he enjoyed a thirty year career with Air Canada. In 1974, he married Mia Patterson and became a loving husband and father to her and her two children. After retiring, he and Mia enjoyed traveling and caring for their many pets. Being an outgoing, friendly person, he had many life-long friends. He was beloved by many and will be dearly missed by all.
