SUITOR -- Edith Allison passed away on October 16, 1997 in her 94th year at Bethany Care Centre, Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew, and two sons, Roy and Merlyn (Shorty). She is survived by her son Allan and his spouse Delorace of Calgary, Ken and his spouse Margaret of Athabasca, Lloyd and his spouse Joyce of Toronto; and two daughters-in-law, Doris of Devon and Pat of Duchess. She is also survived by one brother Maurice Edwards of Turner Valley; as well as fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith arrived in Alberta with her parents from Iowa in 1905, the year Alberta became a province. She married Andrew Suitor after his return from World War I and together they raised a family of five boys. Edith and Andrew homesteaded in the Queenstown District until moving to the ranch at Hutton in 1944. In addition to running a very busy household, Edith also operated a store and post office for many years at the ranch. The Suitor home was always open to all, and a favourite place for friends and relatives to visit. Edith retired to Calgary in 1963 and continued her interest in children by acting as their companion while parents were either working or away on holiday. Edith moved to the Bethany Care Centre in 1991, and the family wishes to thank all of the staff at Bethany for their very kind and attentive care. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Pam Bohning who was her caring companion in the last several years. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Monday, October 20, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. TOMPKINS -- Dr. Allan David Tompkins passed away in the early hours of October 17, 1997. Born February 11, 1915 at Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, he attended elementary and high school in Kinistino, Sask. and medical school at the University of Western Ontario in London, ON. He interned at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver B.C. where he met and married his wife Elsie. Allan served in World War II from 1942 to 1946, spending two years overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp as a medical officer. After returning from overseas he spent two years in general practice in Cardston, AB. He moved to Vulcan in September 1948, where he resided ever since, retiring from his medical practice December 31, 1990. He is survived by his wife Elsie of Vulcan; two sons, William and Mel; and two daughters, Val and Jan; one grandchild Aaron David Tompkins of Australia; and one brother Dr. Jarvis Tompkins of Vancouver, BC. Interment will be held at the Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations in Allan's name may be made to the local Food Bank.
ZABIELLO -- Veronika passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on October 17, 1997, at the age of 76 years. She is survived by her brother Walter (Mary) Lapaj and their daughter Anna Teresa of Calgary. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at Our Lady Queen of Peace (Polish) Catholic Church, 2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W. on Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace (Polish) Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 22, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. FACEY -- Frederick Beveridge (Bev). On October 17, 1997 Mr. Bev Facey of Edmonton passed away at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife Ruby; his son Georgie and his good friend Nigel Pottle of Calgary; granddaughter Holli and her husband Rod Yeoh of Vancouver. Bev was a Past Master of St. Johns Lodge No. 25 A.F. + A.M. G.R.A. Vegreville. A Past Master of Eastgate Lodge No. 192 A.F. + A.M. G.R.A., Past T.P.G.M. of Edmonton Lodge of Perfection, Honorary Inspector General 33 Degree A. + A.S.R. and Past President of the Vegreville Rotary Club, and Past President of the Edmonton Rotary Club. GUREL -- Martha, a long-time resident of Vancouver, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, on October 16, 1997, at the age of 85 years. She is the loving mother of Marilyn (Howard) Woodruff of Edmonton, Douglas (Joan) Gurel of Calgary. and Eleanor (Costanzo) Gabriele of Calgary. She is also survived by her sister Ida Paul of Edmonton; grandchildren, Allison and John Gabriele, Bill and Laura Gurel, and Dan and Wendy Woodruff. Martha was predeceased by her husband Otto in 1988. HARMON -- Norah, loving mother and grandmother of Carole Harmon and Sebastian and Julia Hutchings, passed away at Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, on Friday, October 17, 1997.
