CAMPBELL, Leslie Ronald
August 17, 1925 — October 21, 2011
Peacefully at age 86, Les Campbell left those who knew him with memories of a life lived with happiness, good humour and love.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, raised and schooled in Edmonton, until the nearby rail yards and trains called to the young man. That calling led to over 40 years of service with CNR, including the role of General Yardmaster, Edmonton.
With retirement came time for travel. Les and Betty loved to see new places and return to old favourites. Their travels spanned most of the globe. Resting up was often done on the beach in Maui. Les also enjoyed old westerns, good bag pipes, bridge games with friends, and dining out. Sadly, the final two decades of his life were overshadowed by illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Betty, who he loved so much and who was such a help to him in living those final years of his life with strength and courage. He cherished his family of two daughters, Judith Campbell (Dave Richardson) and Lesley Joan Yandeau (Ron). Two grandsons, Dennis and Patrick Yandeau, grew into fine young men as Les watched. He will also be missed by a dear friend and caregiver, Elle Collinge, as well as his sister-in-law, Bev Hunter. Les was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Ester Campbell, and an infant son, Christopher.
