It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Jonas Shepherd at the Brant Centre, Burlington, ON on Friday, September 10, 2004. We celebrate and honour his 90 years of love and service. Beloved husband of Marjorie for 63 years. Loving father of Mae and Reverend Bert Radford, Joanne and Bill Rose, Bill and Joyce, Ruth and Calvin Miller, AnnE and Joel Zimmerman. Cherished grandfather of 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Jonas Ephraim and Louisa May; four brothers and two sisters of England. Very dear brother of Molly and her husband Malcolm Lynas and Gertrude Duke, also of England. Loved brother-in-law of Eleanor and Verne Sheridan, Irene Marchildon, Gordon and Mary Carolyne Curl and Betty and Brian Cloudsdale. Jonas, an ordained pastor, served over 40 years in ministry. He served many years at Crestwood Reformed Presbyterian Church in Edmonton. He was a Charter Member and a former President of the Canadian Protestant League. ST. CLAIR, Wendy Elizabeth
It is with a heavy heart that it is announced that Wendy Elizabeth St. Clair, age 62, died on September 7, 2004. She demonstrated tremendous courage and strength in the face of a devastating illness. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Tara St. Clair, and was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Evelyn Walker. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sandha, Dr. Mirhosseini and Jean Ferguson for their prompt and attentive care. Many thanks also to the nursing and support staff of unit 5D2 (University of Alberta Hospital) and unit 43 (Grey Nuns Hospital) for their outstanding care and attention. On September 11, 2004, Mr. Robert Swynchuk of Edmonton, passed away at the age of 72 years. Survived by his loving wife Laura as well as many family and friends. passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2004. Mary Ebert (Smalley), late of Garden Bay, B.C., age 86 years. Predeceased by her husbands Alan Ebert and Len Smalley, and her son Brent. Survived by one daughter Marilyn Orchard and one son Dr. Rick Smalley (Janet); as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation at Devlin Funeral Home. On Monday, September 13, Eileen Entwistle of Edmonton, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 years. Eileen is survived by her loving husband, Terry of 49 years; also her children, Jeff, Russ, Glena Poeter (Kevin), Caron Gibson (Doug); 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Betty Courtney (Cal), Doris Popowich (Don); and one brother, Glenn Brand. Eileen was predeceased by daughter, Carey. Gilbert Gee of Edmonton passed away suddenly on September 10, 2004 at the age of 41 years. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his mother Har Sheung (Ma) Gee and father Grant Gee; his brother Gordon (Kim) of Calgary and their children Kristin, Skylar Megan, Benjamin, Aimee and Mackenzie; brother Gary of Iqaluit, and brother Gavin (Elaine) of Richmond and their children Sarah and Daniel; his maternal uncle James Ma of Edmonton; his paternal uncle Terry (Elizabeth) of Edmonton; his maternal aunt Ping Lan of Hong Kong; many cousins and other relatives around the world including Canada, U.S.A. and Hong Kong; and his many friends, co-workers and fellow volunteers. GUIMOND, Elzear Alcide
Elzear Alcide Guimond of St. Albert passed away peacefully at Youville Home in the early morning of September 14th, 2004. Elzear was 82 years of age. Elzear will be dearly missed by Jeannette his loving and devoted wife of 55 years. He leaves his loving children Reno (Michelle), Collette (Jim) Jean- Pierre (Dianne) and grandchildren: Mathew, Jordan, Carson, Davida, Benoit ("mon ti-bonheur") and Jeannelle-Marie ("ma p'tite catin"). He was born on June 16, 1922 in St. Francois Xavier des Hauteurs, Quebec. He had two brothers and eight sisters of which he is survived by his brother Jean-Robert Guimond of Mont-Jolie, Quebec and sisters Marie Soucy of Ottawa, Ontario, and Agathe Soucy of Sudbury, Ontario. Elzear was always there for his family supporting them in any way he could. Thank you Dr. James Bell and Youville Home staff and Grey Nuns, for your efforts to keep Elzear comfortable. HOUGH, Olive Mildred nee Craig
A 54 year resident of Edmonton, Alberta passed away peacefully in her home in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 91 years on September 14, 2004. Mildred was born in Sedgewick, Alberta, April 11, 1913 as the only daughter of the late Dr. W.H. Craig and Mrs. Eva Craig. In 1918 she moved with her parents and brother Vernon to Camrose, Alberta where she grew up and was active in the United Church, CGIT, Sunday School and the Youth Group. Mildred loved her music and piano and always wanted to play a pipe organ, but chose nursing. She graduated from the Misercordia Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. She nursed throughout the province including Banff, Barrhead, Riley and Sedgewick as a special duty nurse. In 1941 she married Geoffrey Hough of England and Edmonton and to this union was born three daughters. Colleen Elizabeth (Wilson) of Medicine Hat and Allison Hough of Toronto and Patricia Joan. After the sudden death of her husband in 1957 she raised her daughters as a very caring, loving, unselfish Mother. She returned to nursing as an OR nurse and then was on the staff of the City of Edmonton Public Health Department for 16 years as District and School Nurse in the Hardisty and Fulton Place areas. On retirement she was active in Volunteer work and was a life member of the Women's Auxillary of the Royal Alexandria Hospital. She enjoyed over 30 years of bowling and was an avid knitter. In 1997 she moved to Medicine Hat to be near her family. She was predeceased by her husband Geoffrey, 1957, brother Vernon, 1940, father Dr. W.H. Craig 1951, mother Eva in 1984 and great-grandchild Alexandra in 1999. Mildred was a direct descendant of Sir David Kirk, Admiral of the Fleet, who settled Newfoundland and was their first Governor in 1623, capturing Quebec and Chaplain in 1629. Also, a direct descendant of Dan Winters of Armagh, Ireland where the Orange Lodge was started in his root cellar in 1795. She will be missed by Allison Hough (Toronto). Dr Roy and Colleen Wilson (Medicine Hat) and her grandchildren to whom she was a special Nanna: Craig and Mary Lou Wilson (New York), Carolyn and Erik Hoestra (Victoria), Elizabeth and Ed Kruger (Medicine Hat), Geoffrey and Stephanie Wilson (Brandon), Catherine and Jason Fraser (Medicine Hat), Connie and Rob Bartel (Calgary). Great-grandchildren Kelsey and Teya and Tyler, Jack and Olivia, Nicolaas and Michael, Sam and Aaron, Sydney and Zachery, Reigh-Ann and Emily and Joshua. And special friends: Dorothy Boyd (Edmonton), Pat Summerfield and all her wonderful family at South Ridge who had such happy years together. On September 14, 2004 Mrs. Annie Hrudey of Vegreville passed away at the age of 86 years. Annie is survived by one daughter, Marian (Walter) Urichuk of Vegreville; two sons, Marvin (Judy) of Andrew and Ron (Debbie) of Willingdon; nine grandchildren, Terry (Judy), Valerian (Evonne), Gregory (Elizabeth), Monica (Brian), Candice (Jared), Mark, Matthew, Ross and Ian; eight great-grandchildren; four step-sisters; and one step-brother. Born in Smoky Lake, Alberta on April 25th, 1921, Walter spent his youth in the Vilna area. He moved to Brule, Alberta in 1958. Survived by his wife Marion of Brule, Alberta; stepdaughters Judy (Fred) Howlett and Pam Scheffler as well as granddaughter Marie (Ian) Calliou and great-grandson Ty Calliou all of Hinton, Alberta and granddaughter Cheryl Howlett of Calgary, Alberta. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Mary Hryckowski of Brule, Alberta; two nieces and five nephews; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and many friends. Walter was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
