BAKER -- Mervyn Charles Baker passed away on January 15, 1998 at the age of 67 years, beloved husband of Patricia. Funeral Services will be held at Lakeview United Church (3023 - 63 Avenue S.W.) today, January 19, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements and Cemation in care of LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOMES LTD. CHRISTOFFERSON -- Mrs. Mary Anne Christofferson of High River, passed away at the High River Hospital and Nursing Home on January 17, 1998 at the age of 81 years. She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Grant) Cooke and her son Mark Christofferson, al of Blackie; her grandchildren, Sandra Cooke-Locken and her husband Dale, Krista Cooke, Keith, Lyndi and Dale Christofferson; and by her great-grandson Riley. Mary Anne was predeceased by her husband Ander Christofferson on February 29, 1988, and her brothers, Homan Moore and Elmer Moore, and sister Beatrice Moore-Walls. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at SNODGRASS Funeral Chapel, High River at 2:00 p.m., the Reverend Reg Berg officiating. Interment to follow at Highwood Cemetery. COXE -- John Richard, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at the Tom Baker Centre on January 15, 1998 in his 47th year. John was the loving husband, best friend and soulmate of his beloved wife Brenda M. Coxe, and loved father of John Wesley ordon Coxe. John is also survived by his loving sister Janice Wrobel-Cole of Bayfield, ON; his stepbrother Jack (Pearl) Kelf of Burlington; and his brothers-in-law, Brian Pronger and Jim Bartley. John will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews including Tracey Lynn (David) Stone, Marshall Musikov, David Wrobel and Paul Wrobel; great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Jordan and Rebekah Stone, and Cody Wrobel. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Edith Coxe, and Gordon and Muriel Pronger. John will be deeply missed by his lifelong friend Ralph Beney of Fergus, ON, and other close friends whose lives were enriched by his caring and giving nature. John was born and raised in Brantford, ON, where he taught elementary education after completing his Bachelor of Arts (French) at the University of Guelph; Bachelor of Education at Queen's University and Master of Education (Psychology) at the University of Toronto. In 1979, John and Brenda moved to Calgary where he worked for the Calgary Board of Education as a Counsellor at Ian Bazalgette Jr. High; a visiting teacher within the Board and finally as a Resource Teacher at numerous schools across the city. John was a dedicated teacher who believed that all children are special and helping them was a privilege. John, an avid reader, appreciated music, the arts, as well as drama-acting and doing the make-up for Storybook Theatre. John and Brenda recently joined the U of C Ballroom Dance Club, which he enjoyed immensely. John liked nothing more than having friends over for dinners (which he and Brenda prepared together) followed by conversation into the late evening. He always loved the Rocky Mountains and the weekends away he and Brenda shared. John's beloved Westies, Waffles, Honey Bear, Duffy and Katie were his constant companions. Memorial Services celebrating John's life will be held at Southminster United Church, 3818 - 14A Street S.W., on Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Harry Taylor officiating. Cremation. Interment will be held later at Mount Hope Cemetery, Brantford, ON. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tom Baker Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary T2N 4N2, The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Rd S.E., Calgary T2G 3Y6, or a charity of the donor's choice. FITZER -- Vernon George Fitzer passed away at the Foothills Hospital on January 18, 1998 at the age of 66 years. Vernon was born on July 26, 1931 in Orpington, Kent, England. In England he received his schooling from the City of London School and the finishing his schooling at Graduate School. In 1950 Vernon immigrated to Canada with his family and settled in Calgary. Here in Calgary he worked in the Oil Industry as a geophysicist for numerous companies. Vernon always loved to continue his education taking additional courses at the Colorado School of Mines and Mount Royal College. Vernon will always be remembered for his unspoken generosity, always giving to people in need. Vernon is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Norman Hall of Concord, California. He is also survived by one nephew, four nieces and four great-nephews. Vernon was predeceased by his father, Frederick in 1963, his mother Beatrice in 1988, and a brother Carlton in 1992. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 1717 Macleod Trail S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G 2N8. GAVEL -- Evelyn Mae Gavel. It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Evelyn, on January 16, 1998 at the age of 76 years. She is survived by her loving daughers, Donna (Lorne) Rupert of Edmonton and Paddi (Dale) Cleland of Wetaskiwin; loving grandchildren, Scott (Rosa) Rupert, Michele Rupert, all of Edmonton, Jim (Monica) Cleland of Drayton Valley, Jeff Cleland and Heather Cleland of Wetaskiwin; three great-grandchildren, Danielle, Erica and Austin; brothers, Jack (Kay) McIntyre of Calgary and Bill (Florence) McIntyre of Turner Valley; sisters, Olive Carby of Spirit River, Bernice Thurston of Edmonton, and Agnes (Syd) Rowland of Leduc; sisters-in-law, Bernice McIntyre of Edmonton, Jean McIntyre of Calgary, Audrey McIntyre of Edmonton and Pearl McIntyre of Red Water; and numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. Predeceased by her husband Elmer, parents, Irwin and Agnes McIntyre, brothers, Mac, Gordon, Clifford and Don, and a sister Eva Endicott. Forever, for always, and no matter what, there is no friendship, no love, like that of a mother. HESKES -- Franciscus (Frank) Heskes, beloved father of Frank and Monika Heskes, and Fred Heskes, and grandfather of Justin and Reid, passed away peacefully at the Mayfair Care Centre with his sons at his side on January 14, 1998 at the age of 77. HOWDEN -- Margaret E. (Marg), nee Leppard, passed away on January 16, 1998 at the Agape Manor Hospice at the age of 69 years. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-seven years, Harry; her daughter Gail (Bart) Peake; her son Ross (Michele) Hoden. She will also be lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren, John, Ross, Matthew, Sarah and Brett. She also leaves two sisters, Frances Lee and Earlene (Allan) Sinclair; as well as one brother Phil (Helen) Leppard. Marg was predeceased by her daughter Beverley in 1957. Marg touched the lives of those around her with her love of life, devotion to her family and her positive attitude. KETTLES -- passed away Thursday, January 15, 1998 in the Pincher Creek Hospital. James Alfred Kettles, aged 81 years, beloved husband of Gertie Kettles of Pincher Creek, Alberta. Born April 26, 1916, the eldest son of James M. and Kathleen Kettles. Rised on the family ranch east of Pincher Creek, Jim attended public and high school in Pincher Creek. He started ranching with his father in 1933 and continued until April 1939, when he married Gertrude Evans. He moved a starter house and built on to it, to a new location along Pincher Creek and continued ranching on his own and in partnership with his family until 1963 when the ranch was sold and Jim and Gertie moved into Pincher Creek. Jim owned and operated the Esso Station on Waterton Avenue for a few years, then left to work as a machine operator installing water and sewer systems throughout Southern Alberta and B.C. Four years later he began working for the Pincher Creek Co-op in the hardware department, where he worked until 1982 when he retired. Unable to do 'nothing' he started a Yard Care business and operated it until 1985. Jim has been an active member of the I.O.O.F for many years, serving in all the chairs. He was also a member of the Pincher Creek Lions Club, active in all duties including President. Jim was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, which is a very prestigious award within Lionism that recognizes an individual member for service to their club and community. Jim will be lovingly remembered by Gertie, his wife of fifty-eight years; his sons, Allan (Janice) Kettles of Calgary and Les (Lorene) Kettles of Strathmore; also six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also by his brother Ernie (Dot) Kettles of Pincher Creek; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation. A Memorial Service will be held in the Pincher Creek Community Hall on Thursday, January 22, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Cullene Bryant officiating. No flowers by request. MACINTOSH -- Florence Emily Macintosh of Calgary, passed away at the Bow View Manor on January 15, 1998, at the age of 97 years. Florence was born in Everett, Massachusetts on March 27, 1900. Florence is the loving mother of George Bergh of Winnipeg,Manitoba, and the step-mother of Norman and Joan Macintosh of Kingston, Ontario, Wallace and Helen Macintosh, and Douglas Macintosh, all of Calgary. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Florence was predeceased by her first husband, Daniel Bergh, son Richard Bergh, second husband William Macintosh, and step-sons, William Macintosh, Donald Macintosh and Kenneth Macintosh. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Chapel of the Bells", (2720 Centre Street North), on Wednesday, January 21, 1998, at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. MACKIE -- Nora Cecile, widow of Allan Kelvin Mackie, died at the age of 90 years on January 16, 1998, after nearly ten years of wonderful care at Central Park Lodge, Calgary. She is survived by her son Robert, his wife Patricia; his daughter Karen an her husband Greg White; as well as Karen's mother Marlene; daughter Carol and her children Brian and Katie McDowell; and her sister Lillian Jones. OSBORNE -- Nellie (Norma) born in London, England in 1906, passed away peacefully at the George Boyack Nursing Home on Friday, January 16, 1998. She was predeceased by her loving husband Cecil Charles (Ossie) in 1994. Norma is survived by her daughte Janet of Calgary and her son Michael of Renfrew, Ontario. May she rest in peace. PETERSON -- Clarence Albert (Smokey), of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 1998 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by two sons, Clarence Jr. (Connie), Randy; three daughters, Linda Peterson (Dale Liberg), Theresa Peterson (Russell Wasacase), Barbara Bartz (Erich); the mother of his children, Veronica Peterson; six grandchildren, Tim, Chris, Shawn, Chicky, Jerry and Randy; four great-grandchildren, Caleb, Corrina, Bonnie (Nap), and Madisson. He is also survived by four brothers, Joe, Alan, Jim, Herman; two sisters, Mary and Linda. He was predeceased by his second wife Hilda Peterson. Clarence (Smokey) Peterson was born on February 9, 1921 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. He joined the Regina Rifles at a young age and served in France, Scotland and England in the Second World War. Once he was discharged, he moved to Calgary in 1946. Clarence became a Plasterer by trade and was known as the best in his field. This he did until his retirement in 1975. Some of his pastimes were golf, rodeo, country and classical music. Clarence will be remembered by his family as a loving and caring man. He will be missed and always remembered. Funeral Services will be held at LEYDEN'S "Chapel of Remembrance" (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.), on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 - 29 Street N.W., T2N 4N2).
