ALLEN Arthur Allen
June 22, 1907 -February 3, 2001

Sadly, Arthur passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital, Comox, B.C. on February 3, 2001. He was predeceased by his wife Marion in 1982, and is survived by his only daughter, Shauna Veale and her husband Douglas, his two grandchildren, Jenifer (David) and Jonathan (Marlies) and his great grandchildren, Angus, Cecilie, Sophie and McKinley, all of Comox. Arthur spent his working years from 1931 to 1968 as a high school teacher in Red Deer, interrupted by war service with the YMCA at Penhold and Calgary. He served on council as an Alderman for several terms, was chairman of the Library board and secretary of the Alberta Fish and Game Association. He retired to the Comox Valley in 1968. ANDREASSEN, Dorothy Jean (nee Faught)

On February 14, 2001 Jean Andreassen of Camrose passed away suddenly at the age of 70 years. Predeceased by her husband Harry in 1997, Jean leaves to mourn her children, David (Wenche) of Camrose, Dana of Lethbridge, Bill (Marg) of Camrose, Hollie (Dave) Heroux of Edmonton, Jim (Cathy) of Camrose, and Meri (Paul) Johnston of Calgary, and eleven grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her sister-in-law Carroll Lee Faught of Wheaton, Illinois; sister Lenora (Don) Scherk of Prince Rupert, B.C.; and sister Dayle (Ken) Johnson of Camrose. Jean was also predeceased by her parents Wilbert and Effie; and her brother Francis. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. from the Camrose United Church (4829-50 Street) with Rev. Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Battle River Community Foundation (Box 1122, Camrose, Alberta T4V 4E7) or the charity of one's choice. ARMSTRONG

Helen Armstrong, wife of Pete Armstrong passed away Sunday, February 18, 2001 at the age of 78 years after a four year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, two sons Ken and Cliff and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Neal. Memorial Services were held in Red Deer, February 21, 2001 following a private burial in Elnora.

BAKER

Mrs. Ruth Gertrude Baker (nee Greenwood), beloved wife of Thomas Henry Baker, of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family and friends, on Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the age of 73 years. Ruth was born at Sharon, Ontario where she attended public school. After graduation from the Newmarket High School, Ruth attended college and commenced upon a twelve year business career. Ruth then married Tom Baker and raised their daughter Sandee. Ruth's life centered around a whirlwind schedule of her daughter's activities, horses and dogs. In later years Ruth and Tom traveled and spent twenty-three years square dancing their way across Canada and the United States. Ruth especially enjoyed crafts, furniture refinishing, photography and was well known for her homestyle cooking and gracious generosity. Ruth will long be remembered by all who were privileged to know her for her loving and gentle spirit. As well as her loving husband Thomas; Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sandee Baker-Whitesell and her husband, Doug of Red Deer; her two granddaughters, Janet Whitesell and Candra Whitesell; and her two brothers, Drury and George Greenwood in Ontario. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Gertrude Greenwood. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, on Sunday evening, between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at the Eventide Funeral Chapel, on Monday, February 26, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with Leanne V. Hall. Interment will follow in the Queensville Cemetery, Queensville, Ontario on Friday, March 2, 2001. If desired, tributes may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Red Deer, Box 1134, Red Deer. BIGLANDS

Thomas Biglands of Bentley, AB., passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre the evening of Tuesday, January 30th, 2001. He proudly served his country in the Second World War in the Canadian Army A-20 R.C.A.S.C (A)TC. Predeceased by his wife Isabel Biglands, July 4th, 2000, he is survived by his loving children, Donald Biglands of St. Petersberg, Florida, Elizabeth Biglands of Boyle, AB, Kay (Faron) Young of Edmonton, AB., Harry Biglands of Grande Cache, AB., William (Licia) Biglands of Bentley; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his sister Bessie Gibins; nephew John (Stephanie) Higgins and many other nieces; nephews and friends. A special thank you to Dr. McKibbon for his excellent care of dad over the years and to all the staff at the Lacombe Hospital. Funeral services will be held from the Bentley Christian Centre on Saturday, February 3rd, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Greg Rathjen officiating. BOOKLESS

John (Jack) William Bookless, beloved husband of Marilyn, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, at the age of 60, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Jack was born March 9, 1940 in Innisfail. Besides his loving wife Marilyn, Jack is survived by his mother Muriel Bookless, sister Jean (Larry) Sturrock, Stettler, step-children Brad Hummel, Red Deer, Joleen (Greg) Mooney and their children Oriana and Amber (Papa's little darlings) Petawawa, Ont., nephews Dennis Sturrock, Camrose, Michael Sturrock, Vegreville, and Chad (Lannis) Sturrock, Peace River. He is also survived by aunts, Rita McGibbon, Innisfail, Thelma Russell and Kathleen Calvert, Calgary and Vona Anglin, Kelowna, B.C., as well as many, many cousins. Jack also leaves to mourn his mother-in-law, Janet Fairbrother and brother-in-law Garth Fairbrother, Calgary. Special people in Jack's life were his extended family, Layne (Deb) Hummel, Kerra (John) Baradoy, Laureen (Jason) Dionne, Darren Hummel, Calgary and Cal (Diana) Hummel, Paris, TX., and families to whom he was known as Grandpa Jack. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph in 1979, his special companion Ann Kornaga in 1978, 7 uncles and 3 aunts. Jack loved his family deeply and was a special and wonderful husband, step-dad, Papa, brother, son and uncle. Jack was happiest when building something special out of oak, camping in his motorhome at Wilderness Village, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed his dealing with customers while employed for 10 years at Windsor Plywood. A remembrance of Jack's life will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, AB, on Monday, February 26, 2001 at 1:30 p.m., with Reverend David Guzzwell officiating. Cremation. Interment will follow at a later date in Olds, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Deer Regional Hospital, Intensive Care Unit, Box 5030, Red Deer, AB, T4N 6R2. A special thank you to Drs. Farries, McKenzie and Hamilton for everything you did for Jack and enough cannot be said about the nurses, and all the staff in ICU for the wonderful care given to Jack and the care and compassion shown to the family. You will never be forgotten, you truly are angels of mercy. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. BOTTRELL

Mrs. Vivian Viola Bottrell, wife of the late William John Bottrell, of Flin Flon, Manitoba, passed away at the Red Deer Nursing Home, on Wednesday, February 22, 2001 at the age of 93 years. Vivian moved to Alberta in 1977 to live with her family. She was born and lived all of her married life in Manitoba. Vivian was admired for her 'good neighbor' way of life. She enjoyed her years of fishing, berry picking and gardening. Vivian was generous and always helped her family through the years. She loved baking and enjoyed good music and was known to always have a crossword puzzle handy. She will be remembered by her family for her strong spirit, even in the final stages of her life. We will all miss her. She is the loving mother of David (Heide) Bottrell of Winnipeg, Diane (Jim) Inglis of Red Deer, Lauren Arsenault of Calgary, and Sally (Larry) Pearson of Red Deer; her seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; her sister, Lois Smith of Red Deer; and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as her husband William, Vivian was predeceased by an infant son, Donald; and seven sisters and two brothers. A memorial service will be held at the Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend John Yoos officiating. BOUGHTON

Margaret Elizabeth Boughton (Peggy) sadly passed away on February 4, 2001 with all of her family at her side. Peggy was born on November 5, 1923 in Drumheller. Peggy is survived by her children; Sandy, Deanna (Craig); Lorne (Myrna); Sharon (Dave); Lana (Dave); Maxine (Ray); Sherry (Fred); Eddie (Barb) as well as 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her sisters and brothers. Knitting was one of Peggy's favorite hobbies and she spent many hours creating outfits. She was an avid camper, overjoyed when one of her kids invited her along for any camping trips. Destinations or weather was not a concern to her, but rather being able to spend time with her kids was the major factor. Peggy had the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world and enjoyed all the sights along the way. During her spare moments, shopping at Fields brought her a lot of pleasure. Peggy enjoyed the many times she spent with her children and had a special bond with them all. She was predeceased by her husband Ray Lemay the father of her children and by one daughter Pat Wilson. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at 12:00 at the Metcalf Funeral Chapel, Innisfail with the Reverend Bruce Ellis officiating. Interment at the Innisfail Cemetery.
