It is with great sadness we announce the passing of June E. Turney on Friday, February 9, 2001 at the age of 83 years. June was born to Westland and Grace Myers on November 18, 1917 at Vulcan, Alberta and laughingly referred to herself as a "real prairie chicken". June will be lovingly remembered by her sons and their wives; Jim and Donna, George and Donna, Robert and Marsha, Alan and Kathy. June is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Dexter and Debbie, Levi, Michelle, Sasheen, Jordan and Haley; Johan and Barb, Derek, Niki, Crystal and John Broere; Shawn and Mary Ann, Leeann and Doug, Brent, Jorden; Wade and Terr; David, Christopher and Wes. She also will be remembered by her nephew Leonard, Debbie and family. June was predeceased by Gordon, her loving husband of 53 years in 1991. We will always remember June's great baking, her love of horses (especially her Morgans) and her unending courage and determination. Surrounded by family, William Ure passed away February 4, 2001 at the Dr. Richard Parsons Auxiliary Hospital in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 87 years. Bill was a long term resident of Delburne where he farmed, performed active and dedicated community service, and served as the Red Deer Constituency Member of the Alberta Legislative Assembly for twelve years. Bill was also a Past Master and fifty year Member of the Masonic Lodge and Past Patron and fifty year Member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian; his devoted children, Eunice (Ross) Donaldson of Ottawa, Douglas (Donna) Ure of Niagara on the Lake and Richard (Barb Munday) of Delburne; his six grandchildren, Teri Ann and Michael Donaldson, Ian and Lindsay Ure and Curtis and Graham Ure. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at the Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, on Thursday, February 8, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. with The Reverend Susan Skrepneck officiating. VOS
Froukje (Phyllis) Vos was called to her heavenly home from the Red Deer Nursing Home on the evening of January 28, 2001. Froukje was born on November 17, 1914 at Zuidhoren, Holland. She married Omke Vos on May 8, 1939 in Holland where they operated and owned a butcher shop. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada with their five children and have resided in Red Deer for 44 years. Froukje is survived by her husband Omke of 62 years; her children, Dwight and Jeannie Vos (Kamloops), Marg and Gerry Hessel (Red Deer), Henny Switzer (Surrey), John and Betty Vos (Kelowna) and Andy and Karen Vos (Victoria). Froukje is also survived by her grand-children, Rob, Barb, Jeff, Brett, Mark, Alex, Adrienne, Brent, Mike, Jenna and Kevin; one great granddaughter Megan Hessel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Froukje was predeceased by her parents, Jan and Grietje Teule (Holland); four brothers (Holland); and her sister Mien Salomons (Red Deer). We grieve her loss but thank God for the many years we were able to have her as a very special and caring wife, mother, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed and always remembered for her happy nature, wonderful smile and her great gift of hospitality. VOS
On January 29, 2001 the Lord took to Himself Barry Francis Vos after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Barry was born December 19, 1955 in Calgary, Alberta, the second son of Tony and Maria Vos. The Vos family moved to the Condor area in 1960 where Barry received his education at the Condor & David Thompson Schools. Barry was married to Edith Tensen on May 1, 1982. They lived on the farm in Condor and then moved to an acreage west of Rocky in 1986. In 1995, they bought the family farm and moved back to Condor. Barry's dream was always to retire to the farm. Barry spent his working years in oilfield construction, during which time he received his Journeyman Pipefitting ticket and his Crane Operator ticket. His most recent employer was R. Pollit Oilfield Construction. Barry will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He had a friendly, easygoing nature that made him well respected and a pleasure to be with. Barry is survived by his beloved wife Edith and their three children, Kristina, Alicia and Michael. He is also survived by his mother Maria Vos; brothers, Charlie (Holly), Wilfred (Jean); sisters, Yvonne (Andy) Hogberg, Connie (Rick) Kwantes, Frances (Stuart) Fisher; his mother-in-law Stien Tensen; brothers-in-law, Bill (Wilma) Tensen, Albert (Cheryl) Tensen, Peter (Hazel) Tensen and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Tony Vos in November 1994; his father-in-law George Tensen in October 1990; and his nephew Keith Tensen in October 1993. The Funeral Service will be held from the Rocky Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Philip Stel officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Mr. Nicholas Andrew "Nick" Wachter, beloved husband of Marion G. Wachter, of Red Deer passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional, on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the age of 86 years. Nick was born on July 26, 1914 at Primate, Saskatchewan. As well as his loving wife, Marion; Nick is survived by his sister, Wally and her husband Lou Goulet; and his two brothers, Toni (Doris) Wachter and Marcus (Vi) Wachter. Nick was predeceased by his first wife, Tillie. A graveside service will be held at a later date. WALKER
Carole June Walker, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 18, 2001 at the age of 52 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 2, 1948 in Vancouver and spent most of her childhood in the Dawson Creek, B.C. area. She graduated from the U. of A. Hospital School of Nursing in September 1973. It was during her nurses training that she met and married her husband, Rhett on February 14, 1972. Together they went to McGill University in Montreal where they both received their Bachelor of Nursing. Over the years she spent most of her career nursing on Unit 17 and 25 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Carole's greatest delight in life was her family. She was born to be a mother. She loved passionately with all her heart, both family and friends. Her home was a haven of love and acceptance to the many she welcomed with open arms. Carole is lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of twenty nine years, Rhett of Bentley, AB; her four treasured children Deja (Joshua) Peterson (24), Dara (20), Ryan (16) and Cody (12) and her 3 month old granddaughter, Emma Peterson. She will also be missed dearly by her dad and mom, Walter and Rena Lawrence, her four brothers, Walter Jr. (Wendy), Rod (Colleen), Howard (Carmen) and Bart, as well as many other relatives. A Celebration of Carole's life will be held Thursday, February 22, 2001 at Gospel Chapel in Sylvan Lake at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Allan officiating.
