Peggy Bodry of Red Deer passed away suddenly on April 4, 2001 at the age of 28. She will be sadly missed by her mother, Wendy Bodry; daughter Melinda; aunts and uncles and her grandfather, Ray Root and step grandmother, Emily. ISEKE (Sadie (Ross)
Sadie Iseke (Ross), born June 12th, 1922 passed away on Friday April 6th, 2001 at the Lacombe Hospital. Sadie is survived by her loving children; Elenor (Ivan) Korth of Lacombe, AB, Ed (Barrie) Iseke of Sydney, B.C. Margaret (Jerry) Caddy of Eckville, AB, Ray (Arlene) Iseke of Delta, B.C.; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Sadie is also survived by four sisters and one brother, Peggy Findlater and Jean Hepburn of Vancouver, B.C., Betty Dewie and Ella Bean of Calgary, AB., Jim (Kay) Ross of Didsbury, AB., brothers-in-law Pete Iseke and Bud (Terese) Iseke of St. Albert, AB., and many nieces and nephews. Sadie was predeceased by her parents Ed and Grace, husbands Ben (1944), and Frank (1993), three brothers, four brothers-in-law and one great granddaughter. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held. McDONELL
Mrs. Mora McDonell of Red Deer, passed away at the Valley Park Manor, Red Deer, on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the age of 97 years. Mora was born on April 1, 1904 at Rowe, Oklahoma. She came to Canada with her parents in 1913, and settled at Gem, Alberta. Mora met Douglas McDonell and they married in 1924. The couple then moved to the Gilby area in 1925. In April of 1927, they homesteaded outside Eckville, where they farmed for the next 30 years. They moved to their town quarter, and continued to farm until their retirement in 1964. Doug and Mora continued to reside on that home quarter even as the town grew around them. Mora moved to Red Deer in 1995 where she became a resident of the Valley Park Manor. Mora's favorite pastime would find her and her friends on a stream fishing or out berry picking. Her door was always open to stop by for a game of cards or coffee and goodies. She is survived by her son, Bill McDonell and his wife, Vera of Delburne; her grandchildren, Lawrence (Janice), Clarence, Brian (Joanne) and Marilyn McDonell, Rene (Nicole) and Phyllis Ferland, as well as eleven great grandchildren. Mora was predeceased by her husband, Douglas and her daughter Marie Smith. A celebration of Mora's life will be held at the Eckville Community Centre, Eckville, on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend Sandra Franklin-Law officiating. SMITH
Charles Howard Smith passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on April 7, 2001 at the age of 78 years. He was born in Lacombe on November 1, 1922, the only son of Charles Lee and Deborah Smith of the Iowalta district. Howard worked for a time on the Alaska highway before joining the army in February 1943 and spent most of his time with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in Italy. He was wounded and sent back to England and returned home in February 1946. He was the last remaining member of the Orange Lodge of Wolfille. Howard married May Whitecotton on June 19, 1943 and they farmed in the Iowalta district. They had four children, Elaine, Marlaine, Terry and Darryl. Their extended family consists of Elaine and Bob Hatala, Randy, Susan, Michael, Brandon and Stefanie Hatala, Cindy, Norman and Justin Warnke, Marlain and Mario Perizzolo, AnnLisa, Ian, Natasha, Charles, Andrew and Janessa Nicholls, Marco and Tina Perizzolo, Lory and Diane Perizzolo, Terry and Maureen Smith, children Marla, Janice and Teresa; Darryl and Nancy Smith and children Dalyce, Logan, Erin and Wendy. Predeceased by his mother and father and only sister Reuberta Dallas, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews and cousins, three brothers-in-law, Roy and Joyce Whitecotton, Smoke and Alice Whitecotton and Loren and Connie Whitecotton, and two sisters-in-law, June Munro and Evelyn Frizzell. Howard enjoyed carpentry in his later years and we all have some piece of his handiwork to treasure. He loved playing cars and games with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. A private family service will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel Lacombe on Tuesday April 10, 2001, at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather Clifford L. Bakken of Innisfail on March 13, 2001 after a lengthy battle with emphysema. Cliff was born May 25, 1928 in Coronation, Alberta. Cliff will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 48 years Ruth (nee Knutson); three daughters, Gladys and husband Jeff Gislason (Innisfail) and their children Tyler (Calgary), Travis (Red Deer), and Tammy (Innisfail); Katherine and husband Robert Wicliczko and children Brittany and Dallan (Innisfail); Cheryl and husband Carey Feduniw and children Cale, Michael, and Shelly (Innisfail); mother-in-law Rennie Knutson (Innisfail); sister-in-law and brother-in-law Donna and Ron Leach (Innisfail); and numerous nieces and nephews. BIRKLAND
Christian Bernard Birkland, passed away from this life to be with his Lord and Saviour after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer and after effects at the Red Deer Nursing Home, on Friday, March 9, 2001 at the age of 80 years. He was born on June 5, 1920 at Spearhill, Manitoba and at an early age came with his family to Calgary, Alberta, where he took his schooling. He served with the Canadian Army in World War II, returning home to Calgary in 1946. He was predeceased by his mother, father, a brother Hank in World War II, a brother Elmer and a sister Martha and by his first wife Dorothy in 1978. He leaves to sadly mourn his passing, wife Ruth, two stepsons, Wayne (Eunice) Zaksauskas of Kamloops, B.C. and Lyle (Lorinda) Zaksauskas of Calgary, Alberta; 4 step-grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Jeremy and Justina; 2 brothers, Hans (Marg) Birkland of Toronto, Ontario and Lawrence Birkland of Calgary, Alberta, one sister; Ann Dunkley of Calgary, Alberta; also many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Doreen Birkland of Edmonton, Alberta.
