Jack Blackstaffe passed away peacefully on March 26, 2001 in the Didsbury Hospital at the age of 81 years. Born in Toronto, Jack moved to Calgary in 1924 and spent his formative years there. He served his country in the Royal Canadian Army where he learned the trade of Partsman while stationed in London, Ontario, during World War II. Jack married his lifelong partner, Resa in 1944. After the war, Jack turned his experience into a 35 year career in the automotive parts industry, as a manager in Calgary and Red Deer and as an owner/operator in Canmore. He and Resa retired to Carstairs in 1984. Jack was always sports minded and was actively involved in the Red Deer Minor Hockey Association, coaching and serving as President for three years. He was an avid golfer and skier. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Resa; sons Richard (Joan), Walt (Coreen), Ted (Cara); their respective families and as well as numerous friends. He will be sorely missed. Special thanks to Dr. Christian Mostert and the nurses and attending staff at the Didsbury Hospital. In keeping with Jack's wishes, no service will be held. CASPER
Mr. Melvin Dale Casper of Bentley, Alberta passed away in the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the age of 88 years. Born on February 23, 1913 at Monroe, Iowa, Dale later married Gina Marie Holmen of Bentley. Predeceased by his loving wife Gina on April 27, 1979 and by one brother, Harlan and one sister, Norma Carson, Dale is survived by his loving family; son Jack (Barbara) Casper of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter Judy (Pat) Halko of Bentley, Alberta; four grandchildren Tammy MacMillan, Michelle Southerland, John Casper, Scheryl Furness and by seven great grandchildren. Dale also leaves to mourn one brother, Orie (Ruth) Casper of Wainwright, Alberta and by four sisters, Hazel Myers of Viking, Alberta, Albert Knott of St. Albert, Alberta, Illa Kivley of Washington and Janie (Robert) Kelley of Vernon, B.C. Funeral Services will be held from the Grace Lutheran Church, Bentley, Alberta on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Vig Lutheran Cemetery. Fred Chrunyk of Red Deer beloved husband of Barbara Chrunyk passed away suddenly of heart failure, while ski-dooing in British Columbia on Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the age of 62 years. CHRUNYK
It is with great sadness that the family of Fred Chrunyk announce his passing on Saturday, March 24, 2001 from a heart attack, while snowmobiling at Blue Lake, west of Revelstoke, British Columbia. Fred was born in Red Deer, Alberta on December 17, 1938. His love of mechanics started at an early age rebuilding and customizing cars. He went on to designing, building and racing jet boats. Racing took him to the United States, Mexico and New Zealand where he met and made many lifelong friends. Even though Fred has been inactive in the sport for approximately ten years, he is still highly regarded by competitors today. His passing will be a tremendous loss to the sport. Fred was predeceased by his mother Anne in 1964 and his dad Nick in 1985. Fred lived his life his way, and his memory will remain forever in the hearts of his wife Barb (nee) Constable, sons Corey of Red Deer, Shannon (Brenda) of Penticton, British Columbia; his first wife Marlene (Chic) of Red Deer and their children, Fred Jr. (Jahala) of Wabasca, Alberta, Rob (Cheryl) of Red Deer and Cindy (friend Pat) of Calgary; his sister Rose (Marv) Meier of Red Deer; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the many uncounted friends he made throughout his colorful life. CRAIG
LeAnn Craig, age 54, of Madison, died at home Wednesday, March 14, 2001 after a year long battle with breast cancer. LeAnn was born in Oshkosh on August 4, 1946. She graduated from Oshkosh (West) High School in June of 1964. She obtained a BS in Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh in 1968. She attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison to obtain the required courses to sit for the CPA exam and got her CPA certificate in 1982. She interned at Manawa High School in 1968-1969 and did substitute teaching in Middleton. She worked for Virchow-Krause, LLP from 1977 through 1984 and for Clifton-Gunderson, LLP from 1984-1994. In 1994 she and Jan Ellis started the CPA firm of Craig & Ellis, LLC. LeAnn loved working with taxes and doing financial planning. She was the Treasurer of the former Wisconsin Epilepsy Association and of the Exchange Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. LeAnn married John Craig of Ripon in 1968 and had two children, John, Jr. and Rebecca. The Craigs moved from Oshkosh to Middleton in 1969 and to Madison in 1972. In addition to her husband John, survivors include her two children, John (Melissa) Craig, Jr. of Waunakee and Rebecca (Michael) Glaeser of Ripon; four grandchildren, Tori and Paige Craig of Waunakee and James and Molly Glaeser of Ripon; her parents, LeVern and Joan Zwirchitz of Oshkosh; three brothers, John (Sharon) Zwirchitz of Appleton, Peter (Sally) Zwirchitz of Oshkosh, and Paul (Anne) Zwirchitz of Neenah. LeAnn loved people and saw the good in everyone. She considered almost everyone she met a personal friend. She enjoyed being with her relatives, clients, associates, and members of the non-profit groups she served with. She especially enjoyed her role of Grandmother. She and her husband loved to travel and she served in the role of travel agent for the extended family. Her laugh and smile were an asset to any gathering and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. A huge thanks to all the friends, neighbors, relatives, medical personnel, clients, co-workers, fellow board members, and others who helped to make LeAnn's life and especially her last year such a special one. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the Gunderson West Funeral Home, 7435 University Ave. (near Parmenter St.), Middleton WI 53562 (608) 831-6761 with Father Steve Powers and Carol Beggs-Stephen Minister, officiating. CROSSLEY
Rodney Alan Crossley passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on April 3 at the age of 40. He will be deeply missed by his wife Mary-Louise, three daughters Tanis, Andrea Patricia, and Jaime Nicole; his parents Ron and Pat Crossley of Red Deer; his brothers Brad (Rhoda) of Richmond B.C., Randy (Janice) of Red Deer, and sister Rhonda Kim (Allan) Erion of Calgary, ten nieces and nephews, as well as aunts and uncles, and other family members from both his and Mary-Louise's family. Despite chronic and often debilitating pain over the last six years, Rod tried his best to be effective at everything he tackled, whether it was building a fence, swinging a golf club or teaching a computer course. He gained much joy over the last two years in his relationship with their Wheaton Terrier, Mica. A memorial service for Rod will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 7 at Deer Park Alliance Church 2960-39 Street, Red Deer.
