CHAPMAN

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor John Martin Chapman. Trevor was born in Cambridge, England on September 20, 1920, and passed away in Innisfail on May 20, 2001. Trevor is survived by his wife Margaret (Peggy) and by his three sons John (Joanne) of High Prairie, Martin (Joyce) of Edmonton, and David (Cori) also of Edmonton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica (Tony), Colin, Athena and Keshia. Also surviving is his brother Brian of Wereham, England. Trevor was raised in England, and fought as a guerrilla in Burma during World War II. He returned to England where he obtained his degree from Cambridge University and took his teacher training at London University. He became re-acquainted with Peggy, whom he had met as a young child in elementary school. They were married in 1946 and in 1949, they moved to east Africa where Trevor taught until 1958. Trevor and his family moved to Alberta in 1958, and he taught in Acadia Valley, Namao and Sedgewick before moving to Innisfail in 1966. Trevor taught at the Innisfail Jr. Sr. High School until his retirement in 1986. During this time, Trevor started the high school Drama Club and introduced drama into the curriculum. Trevor has been very active in the Lion's Club, and has served in various executive positions including District Governor. He has also been active in St. Mark's Anglican Church as a member of the vestry. A memorial service will be held for Trevor at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2001 at St. Mark's Anglican Church in Innisfail. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Lion's Eye Bank (Alberta) Society, c/o Rockyview General Hospital, 7007-14th St. S.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2V 1P9 or to St. Mark's Anglican Church. Funeral arrangements are in care of Metcalf Funeral Chapel, 4200 49th Avenue, Innisfail, phone 227-3123.

CLARK

Hiram Albert William. On May 31, 2001, Mr. Hiram Clark of Ponoka passed away at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his wife Milicent of Canyonville, OR; sons W. Ralph (Amy) Clark of Ponoka, Kenneth Leroy Clark of Saskatoon, SK., Daniel Robert Clark of Legal and Charles Berry (Barb) Clark of Preeceville, SK.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; sisters Alma Kerbes of Stettler, Maisie O'Neil of Claresholm and Effie Morris of Edmonton; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Helen May (Hull) and his second wife Bertha (Barlow). A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Ponoka Seventh -day Adventist Church, 6102 -57th Avenue, Ponoka with the Interment Service following at the Erskine Cemetery. COOKSON

Catherine "Cathie" Cookson passed away in Lacombe on June 6, 2001. Cathie Brown was born in Scotland on July 5, 1905. In 1907, along with her sister Rita and her parents she immigrated to Canada to start a new life. The little family came to Olds, AB the first winter and then settled on a homestead at Lougheed, AB. Their first years were spent in a sod house. The little family grew to six sisters and they all endured the hardships of pioneer life. Cathie met her life long companion Herbert Cookson as a young lady and they were happily married and started their own family in the near by community of Cambridge. Tragedy struck when a house fire took all their memories of earlier years. In 1941 the family of six moved to Tees, AB where fortunes changed and Cathie became involved in the community as well as working hard on the farm and raising her growing young family. In later years she and Herbert moved to Lacombe where they cultivated many friends and were active in the church and community functions. Cathie cared for her mother for many years. Cathie leaves to mourn her five sisters, Rita Brown, Mary Norminton and Jean Neeles of Calgary, Doris (Pat) Francis of Vancouver and Chrissie of Lougheed along with her two sons Jack (Ann) and Ken (Betty) of Lacombe and daughter Margaret Fox of Vancouver, B.C. She is survived by eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Cathie was predeceased by her husband Herbert in 1982, a son Norman and a granddaughter Cindy. Funeral Services will be held from St. Andrew's United Church Lacombe on Monday, June 11, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Ross Smillie officiating. Interment will follow at the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Lacombe Senior Citizens Lodge or to the St. Andrew's United Church Building Fund. CORBETT

Mr. Lloyd George Corbett of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Saturday, May 26, 2001 at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; his two children Harvey and his wife Elizabeth of Bowden and Sylvia and her husband John Laahuis of Ardrossan; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters. Predeceased by his parents, Florence and John Emerson, three brothers and one sister. At Lloyd's request a private family graveside service will be held. CRAIG

Mr. Harry Grant Craig of Rimbey, Alberta passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at the age of 76 years. Harry was born in Bentley, Alberta on August 15, 1924 to Lorne and Nellie Craig. He was raised in the Forshee District and received his early education in the Centerview School with short periods in Rimbey and Red Deer prior to attending Olds College. While at Olds College, Harry met Louise Lorraine Dixson and both graduated in 1947. They were united in marriage in 1948 and have remained active in College endeavors. They farmed in the Forshee District until they retired to Rimbey in 1991. Harry was very involved in the Forshee, Bentley and Rimbey communities. Harry is survived by his loving wife Louise of 53 years; son Grant (Rhonda) Craig of Crestomere, Alberta; daughter Laurie and her friend Mark Nicholas of Windsor, Ontario; one sister, Margaret Shupe of Edmonton and his brother Jack (Del) Craig of High River, Alberta and many precious cousins and friends. Harry was predeceased by his daughter Bonnie in 1966, his father Lorne in 1971 and by his mother Nellie in 1973. A celebration of Harry's life will be held from the Rimbey Community Centre on Friday, June 8, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Brian Roadhouse officiating. Interment will follow in the Bentley Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre PO Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta, T0C 2J0 or to the Alberta Lung Association, PO Box 4500, Edmonton, Alberta, T6E 9Z9 or to the charity of the donor's choice. ELLEN

On May 29th, 2001, it pleased the Lord to take John Ellen home at the age of 87. After a lengthy illness, he passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family. Our loss has become his gain. John was born in Edmonton, AB on August 27th, 1913, where he spent his childhood. He also lived in Michigan for a short time, before returning to Edmonton where he met Tena. After serving his country in World War II, John and Tena moved their family to Lacombe where he owned and operated Ellen's Dry Goods until his retirement in 1972. He spent countless hours serving his family, church and community through various organizations and committees. Predeceased by his son-in-law Raymond (Butch) Nieboer; his parents Hans and Marritje; two brothers Henry and Paul and four sisters, Mary, Elsie, Grace and Anne, he is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Tena (nee Prins); four daughters Avlyn Vandenborn (Jack) of Houston, B.C., Joan Roeters (Richard) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jane Bruinsma (Ralph) of Lethbridge, AB, Carol Nieboer of U.S. Virgin Islands and three sons, George (Geri) of Rochester, AB, Norman (Shelley) of Calgary, AB, and Tim (Moira) of Lacombe. He also leaves to mourn 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Besides his wife and children, John is also survived by his three sisters, Kay, Willhemina (Billy) and Theresa. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Wilson's Funeral Chapel Lacombe on Thursday evening May 31st, 2001 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. A Private Family grave side will be held at the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery on June 1st, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of his life will be held from the Bethel Christian Reformed Church Lacombe on Friday, June 1st, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his family respectfully requests donations to be made to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee c/o Bethel Christian Reformed Church Lacombe. Roy William Fenwick of Rimbey, Alberta passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, June 11, 2001 at the age of 63 years. Funeral Services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rimbey on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Rilla Sommerville officiating. Interment will follow in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey. FINLAY

Mrs. Gladys May Finlay of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the age of 90 years. Gladys was born on March 7, 1911 and raised on a farm near Sovereign, Saskatchewan. She graduated as a Registered Nurse at the Saskatoon City Hospital, where she worked in the surgical ward for two years, before her marriage to Allan Finlay in 1935. She began her exciting new career as wife and mother and remained in Saskatoon until 1967. They then retired to White Rock, B.C., and in 1992 moved to Red Deer to be near her family, where she has resided until her passing. She is survived by her son, Anson Finlay and his wife, Julia of Toronto; her daughter, Elizabeth Heinsen and her husband, Bill of Red Deer; her grandchildren, Catherine (Dale) Thompson with Emma of New Market, Ontario, Graham (Debbie) Finlay with Haley and Stuart of Calgary, David (Sara) Finlay with John, Kyle and Hillary of Toronto, and Patrick (Gina) Heinsen with Shalom of Edmonton; her two sisters, Bea Gellatly of Saskatoon and Edith Rose of British Columbia; brother-in-law, John Finlay of Cranbrook, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Allan Finlay in 1993; and two sisters, Vera Upton and Norma Smart. A celebration of Gladys Finlay's life will be held at the Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, on Friday, May 18, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. with Leanne V. Hall officiating. Interment of Gladys and Allan will follow in August, in Saskatoon. If desired, tributes may be made to Gaetz Memorial United Church, Red Deer.
