Caroline Fleming, cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother departed this life May 3, 2001 in San Diego. Caroline was born September 18, 1921 in Provost, Alberta. She is survived by her brother, Roy Northcott, and her children Lorne (Christine) Fleming, Ken (Diantha) Grainger, Terry Fleming, Cheryl (Joe) Heaton, and Lois (Mike) Zvolensky. Caroline will be fondly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Mr. Stanley "Stan" Franczak passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, June 11, 2001 at the age of 63 years. He is survived by his wife Lyla; his mother, Helen Franczak; his brothers: Joe (Charlene), Rudy (Vada), Ed (Ruby) and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Stan was predeceased by his father, Walter in 1984. Rodney Gordon, beloved son of Jim and Sandra Harrower of Red Deer, and Barry Coutts of Winnipeg, passed away suddenly at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. on Monday, June 4, 2001 at the age of 27 years. Rodney was born January 3, 1974, and spent his early childhood years in Drumheller. He moved with his family to Red Deer in March of 1986 where he spent his teenage years, moving to the Vancouver area in 1997. Rodney will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Besides his parents, Rodney is survived by his sisters Crystal Harrower of Red Deer and Rhonda (Paul) Boulet of Winnipeg; brother James Harrower of Red Deer and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Royal and Cliff Peterson, Gordon Coutts, and Delmar Harrower, an aunt Arlene Connell and uncles John Coutts and Peter Kelly. Michael Shawn William of Red Deer, was suddenly taken from his family's arms on May 19, 2001 at the age of 16 years. Michael was a very unique and creative individual with a quality all his own. Precious son of Bonnie and Daryl of Red Deer, inspiring and much loved brother of Jaimie and Ryan (Jolene Van Den Berg). Above all, Michael was a character with an incredible sense of humor. There isn't anyone who met Michael that didn't love him because he could talk and listen to young or old. Michael had the biggest heart and was always willing to help. He was cuddly, charming and always had a smile. Family was of utmost importance to him. He had a zest for life that no one else possessed. Mike aspired to be a WWF Wrestler/Carpeter/Cop/Chef. Born an intelligent entrepreneur he could wheel and deal with the best of them. Michael was a very responsible young man who took pride in charity and volunteer work. Born in Red Deer, Mike received his education here and was presently attending Hunting Hills High School. Also to cherish Mike's memory are his Aunts and Uncles - Wendy Nevins, Shannon (Gord) Peterson, Clayton Hawley, Greg Hawley, Linda Hawley, Darci Hawley, Caroline Hawley, Carla Hawley and Anna Hawley. His cousins Jodi (Dale) Haydon and their three girls Taylor, Makenzie and Kassidy, Billie and Samantha Peterson, Cheri, Christa and Curtis Hawley, Kash, Darby and Aaron Hawlely, Randi Hawley along with his grandmother Ruth and his great Aunts and Uncles. His close friends Matt, Tanner, John, Devin, Brennen, Adam, Kevin A, Robbie, Curtis, Ashley and Kevin M. There were many special people who had an impact on Mike's life, including three extraordinary teachers. Mr. Brian Plastow, Mrs. Dixie (Ronnie) and Mr. Dan (Danarooney) Johnson. His special "Gram" Pat Nevins, his namesake, Grandpa Bill Nevins and his Grandpa Richard Hawley, predeceased Mike. The celebration of Michael's life will be held on Friday, May 25, 2001 at 9:30 am at the Harvest Center 4847A-19 Street Red Deer, AB. HENDERSON
Mrs. Shirley Henderson of Innisfail passed away at the Rosefield Centre on Thursday, May 24, 2001 at the age of 71 years. Shirley was born December 4, 1929 at Stettler, Alberta, four months after her sisters Mary and Francis drowned in Buffalo Lake. She moved with her parents to Innisfail in 1942 where they farmed. She met Frank Henderson while a waitress at the Club Cafe in Innisfail and they were married in June of 1947. Shirley was very involved with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Innisfail Legion and became a Life Member in 1991. She headed a catering group for many years, retiring in 1998. She was also very active in the Legion Dart league winning many trophies and 180 pins. She was also a long time member of the Orange Lodge in Innisfail. She is survived by her loving children, Darlene Baumgardt (Wayne) of Innisfail, Marie Pedersen (Vernon) of Carstairs, Harry Dee Henderson (Linda) of Vegreville and Patrick Henderson (Marilyn) of Cold Lake, grandchildren Stacey Baumgardt of Edmonton, Cindy Pedersen (Jeff MacPherson) of Calgary, Kevin Baumgardt (Laura) of Innisfail, Michelle Down (Michael) of Carstairs, Brent Pedersen (Jamie) of Carstairs, Tiffany, Christina, Jennifer and Ashley Henderson of Vegreville and five great grandchildren, Alexis, Christian, Jenaka, Brittney and Brayden. She is also survived by one brother, Marvin Horton and his family of Everett, Washington, brother-in-law, Basil Henderson of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1987, three sisters; Mary and Francis and Francis in 1929 and Dorothy in 1961, one brother, Paul in 1990, her father in 1950 and her mother in 1991. Funeral service for the late Shirley Henderson will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Funeral Chapel, 4200 - 49th Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta with the Reverend Ken Wells officiating and internment at the the Innisfail Cemetery. Mrs. Edna Alice Hislop, age 94, a resident of Cedarcroft Place, Stratford General Hospital on May 17, 2001. She was born in Downie Township, daughter of the late James Richardson and the former Elizabeth MacDonald. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Stratford, a life member of the Gordon Afternoon W.M.S. and a life member of Hillcrest Women's Institute. Beloved wife of the late George A., Hislop who predeceased her April 15, 1968. Loving mother of George Hislop and wife Helen of Kirkton, Robert Hislop and wife Doreen of Orillia, Keith Hislop and wife Patricia of Stratford, Lloyd Hislop and wife Lenore of Fergus, Brock Hislop of Stratford, Joseph Hislop and wife Hazel of Kitchener, Ross Hislop and wife Brenda of Stratford, Kendal Hislop and wife Berva of RR2 Stratford; Douglas Hislop and wife Barbara of Red Deer, AB, Sarah and husband Lorne Proudlove of Stratford, Vera and husband Roy Gibbons of Coquitlam, BC., Bessie Wilhelm of RR 1 Stratford, Ruth and husband William Lindner of Shakespear, June and husband Ronald Zimmer of Windsor, Joan Ford of Statford, Dorothy and husband Allan Calder of Tavistock. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a granddaughter Cathy Hislop, a son-in-law Leonard Wilhelm, two brothers Earl and William and three sister's Cora Good, Vera Richardson and Grace Rodger. A funeral service was held and interment followed in Avondale Cemetery.
HOBBS, GEORGE FREDERICK STUART
George Frederick Stuart Hobbs passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the age of 75 years after a brief battle with cancer. George was born June 17, 1925 at Innisfail, Alberta, and grew up on the family farm in the Grahamston district. In 1943 at the age of eighteen he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served on the Corvette HMCS Middlesex patrolling the shipping lanes of the North Atlantic during the Second World War. After his discharge from the Navy he returned to Innisfail where he met and married Edna Baumgardt and they began their farming life together in the Glenellen District east of Innisfail. In 1966 they moved to a farm in the Dovercourt District south of Rocky Mountain House were he resided until his passing. George leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife of 54 years Edna; 4 children - Loretta (Gary) Stait, Ken, Dale (Mary) and Cheryl (Kevin) Lawrence; 9 grandchildren - Stephanie (Chris Oriwol), Suzanne, Bill, Karie, Travis, David, Jennifer, Chevy and Levi and 2 great-grandchildren - Curtis and Ryan; 3 sisters - Blanche Job, Gwen (Reed) Markham, Irene Wooley and 1 brother - Jack (Betty) Hobbs; 4 sisters-in-law - Emma Frickey, Bertha Morris, Ida Baumgardt, Fred (Red) Simmonds; 2 brothers-in-law - Ed (Allison) Baumgardt and Herb (Grace) Baumgardt; numerous nieces and nephews and more friends and acquaintances than can possibly be mentioned. He was predeceased by his father and mother Fred and Sarah Hobbs, and Father and Mother-in-law- Rudolph and Dorothea Baumgardt; 1 sister - Ruth Towes; 5 brother-in-laws- John Job, Sol Towes, Ernie Wooley, Bill Baumgardt, Emil Baumgardt and Art Morris and 2 infant children, Doreen and Timothy. George was a real people person. He lived for and loved his family; his many friends and cronies he met at the Co-op, the auction and antiques sales, and the many places he and Edna travelled to both in Canada and the United States. He will be sadly missed by us all but at the same time we are happy that he is at eternal peace and is reunited with those who have gone before. Funeral services and a celebration of George's life will be held at the Rocky Memorial Presbyterian Church on June 7, 2001 at 1:30., Reverend Ron Tiesen and Cremation took place at Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. A reception will follow at the Dovercourt Community Hall. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
