Ronald Alvin Motiuk, born July 5, 1948, passed away May 22, 2001 at the age of 52 years at Michener Services, Red Deer, Alberta. He will be lovingly and sadly missed by four brothers and three sisters, Kenneth (Emogene), Robert (Susan), June (Ron), DeAnne (Gino), Deborah (Scott), Terrance (Karen), Arden (Dalace) and numerous nieces and nephews; relatives and friends and staff of Michener Services. Ronald was predeceased by his father, Joe in 1994 and mother, Anna in 1988, his nephew, Jason in 1981 and his niece, Nicole in 2001. The family appreciate and are thankful for the many years the staff of Michener Services provided loving care and kindness to Ronald. Funeral Service Saturday, May 26, at 3:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709-111 Avenue, Edmonton. Interment will follow in Beechmount Cemetery, 12420-104 Street, Edmonton. OWEN
Annie Marie Owen was born on the family farm on July 7, 1921. She was the youngest child of John Richard and Alice Mary Jones. She attended Magic School for nine years. She married John Glyn Owen on February 21, 1943 by Rev. T.E. Jeffries, who had also officiated at Marie's father and mother and Glyn's father and mother's weddings. Glyn and Marie were blessed with six children, John Kenneth, David Richard, Valerie Mary, Elwyn Douglas, Glynda Anne Elizabeth and Eleanor Wynn Alice. She died on May 2, 2001. Marie leaves to remember, her partner Glyn; their family, Kenneth (Marrion), Margureite Owen, Valerie (Blaine Carlson), Elwyn (Paula), Glynda (Ron Wedlund) and Wynn (Ivan Szoke); seventeen grand-children and seven great grandchildren; brother Edwin (Inez) Jones of Red Deer; sister-in-law Pat Jones; and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her son David; her granddaughter Suzy-Jo Carlson; her brother Griff; and her sister Phoebe Scott. Marie's goal in life was to make people laugh whether at her or with her. She claimed it didn't matter what accomplishments you made on earth as long as you were traveling on the right road that would lead you to the Pearly Gates and Jesus. May God Bless You All! Gustaf "George" Petterson of Sylvan Lake has gone home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 14, 2001 at the age of 89 years. He is lovingly remembered by his family, wife Edith; son Ernest (Gerry) of Sexsmith, AB; daughter Myrna (Bob) Dipert of Sylvan Lake; daughter-in-law Myrna Petterson of Minitonas, Manitoba; seven grandchildren Jeran (Lonnie) McConnel of Papua New Guinea, Joshua Dipert of Calgary, Joel Dipert and Joash Dipert of Sylvan Lake and Pamela Petterson, Aaron Petterson and Faith Petterson of Minitonas, Manitoba. He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother. Mr. Max Douglas "Doug" Phelps passed away peace-fully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at the age of 78 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne in December, 2000; a brother Ferris; his mother Louise and his father, Lorne. Doug is survived by his loving family; two daughters, Dianne (Ben) Kendall and Tracey (Terry) Willoughby; a son, Ross; granddaughters, Andrea, Lisa, Sarah and Courtney; grandson, Landon and many extended family members. The family extends special thanks for the care and compassion given to Doug by Dr. C. Holmes, as well as the nursing staff on Unit 22 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. A heartfelt thank you to Heather Albright as well, for her love and support. Viona Marie Pitkanen of Red Deer passed away on June 4, 2001 at the age of 93 years. She is survived by two sons, Donald of St. Louis, Missouri and Garry & Isabelle of Carstairs; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Viona was predeceased by her husband Wayne and son Wayne Jr., brother, Henry Hietala and sisters, Fem Kingsep and Emma Cunningham. POWELL
On June 1st, 2001, the heavenly choir was blessed with another angel. Olive Powell passed away peacefully in her sleep. Olive was born in England on June 19, 1916 and together with her family, made the move to the Great Bend area. After receiving her teaching degree, Olive taught at Hillsdown, where she met Jack, her loving husband of 63 years. Farming, raising a family and teaching kept her very busy until her retirement. Olive taught for many years at Delburne. Education was very important to Olive, as a teacher and as a student. She was always attempting to learn more. She will be lovingly remembered as a very caring, considerate and fun loving to all who knew her, whether they be young or old. Olive was an active community member, belonging to numerous organizations as well as serving on the School Board. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, camping or socializing. In some ways she touched the lives of everyone she knew. She was predeceased by her parents, Elsie & Charlie Hopps, brother Harold Hopps, and granddaughter Carrie Powell. Olive is survived by her loving husband, Jack; four children, Harold (Gail), Bob (Delores), Allen (Diana) and Lori. She also leaves to mourn six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Olive is also survived by her two sisters, Edith Kurp (John), Elsie Ireland (Ed); brother John Hopps (Pat) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 4929-54 St, Red Deer, AB. on Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. John McKay & Michael Thain officiating.
