VERES

Kenneth John, our son & brother passed away suddenly on June 3, 2001 at the age of 37 years. Ken was born November 24, 1963, in Calgary, AB. He lived on the family farm at Wimborne, AB. until the age of 18 years, when he left to make his career on the drilling rigs. He worked in the oilpatch until the date of his death. He started out as a roughneck working his way up to driller, for Ensign Drilling. He drilled for Ensign for several years until he decided that he needed a change, when at that time he decided to go into the Directional Drilling Field. He started with Sperry Sun and most recently was consulting for Directional Plus Ltd. as a Directional Driller. Anybody who knew Ken, knew just what a unique individual he was. Ken never turned his back on anyone, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. Ken had the most bubbly personality of anybody we knew. Family, friends and work were the most important things to Ken. Ken is survived by his mother, Joan Veres of Red Deer, AB; his father, John Veres of Olds, AN; four brothers, Ralph (Joyce) of Red Deer, AB, Ron (Wendy) of Lloydminster, AB, Stan (Shelly) of Edmonton, AB and Keith of Red Deer, AB; two sisters, Sheldina Brunner (Kenton) of Montreal, PQ, and Cindy McCulloh (Tom) of Portland, Oregon; four special nieces Kelli (Loui), Amanda, Stephanie and Christina; three special nephews, Kris (Christina), Shaun (special friend Anita) & Greg; one special great nephew Simon and numerous other relatives. Ken was predeceased by his Maternal Grandparents, Ralph Greenway in 1953, Nellie Greenway in 1977, Paternal Grandparents, John Veres in 1962, Sophie Veres in 1989 and numerous Aunts & Uncles. Ken will be greatly missed by his family and all of his friends. It was Ken's wishes that memorial donations be made to S.T.A.R.S. Friends wishing to pay respects may do so Friday, June 8, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wimborne Community Centre. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 8, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wimborne Community Centre, Wimborne, AB. Interment in Wimborne Cemetery. VIEJON

Crispin Sr. Patrimoni Viejon of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Monday, May 28, 2001 at the age of 90 years. He was born January 6, 1911 in Iloilo, Philippines. Crispin was a land surveyor by trade and graduated with a civil engineer degree in Mapua, Manila, Phil. He was predeceased by his parents, Cicelia and Mauricio Viejon; his wife, Florita Rombawa Viejon; two brothers, Patrocio and Brixio Viejon; and his granddaughter, Jessica Compton. Crispin is survived by his sisters, Christina Cuerdo and Maria Viejon of Iloilo, Phil. and Sally Sermonia (Rudy) of Silverdale, Washington, USA; and his brother Felipe (Gliceria) of Iloilo, Phil. He is survived by his children, Rey Viejon (Marcy) and Jane Viejon (Fred) Compton of Red Deer, Roy (Nena) Viejon, Julie Reforma and Crispin (Nida) Viejon of Manila, Phil. and Crispin J. Viejon Jr. (Jet), Ramoncito and Timothy Viejon of Red Deer. Also leaving to mourn is his lifelong companion Sotera Viejon of Red Deer and his grandchildren, Joy Kiat (Sam), Joan Boos (Shawn), Jason Frederick Compton, Jared Dean Compton and Hillary Podlubny of Red Deer and numerous grand and great grandchildren in the Philippines. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150 67 Street, on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. A Vigil of Prayer will be held Thursday, May 31, 2001 from the Chapel at Red Deer Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be held from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 5508 48A Avenue, Red Deer, on Friday, June 1, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. conducted by the Reverend Donald Stein. VIEJON

Crispin Viejon of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Monday, May 28, 2001 at the age of 90 years. Arrangements are pending and will be announced in Wednesday's paper. VOS

Mr. Omke Vos was called to his heavenly home on May 18, 2001 at the age of 89 years. Omke was born on April 17, 1912 at den Andel Buffalo, Holland to Yzebrant and Hindriktje Vos. On May 8, 1939 he married Froukje Teule and together they owned and operated a butcher shop. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada with their five children and have lived in Red Deer for 44 years. Omke was employed as a butcher at Deerhome until his retirement in 1977. Retirement was a happy time for both of them. Omke will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed life, his family and his church. He was not a man of many words, but lived by example accepting what the Lord gave him. He lovingly cared for Froukje at home until she entered the Red Deer Nursing Home and Omke moved into the Parkvale Lodge. In the year 2000, they were united at the Red Deer Nursing Home and are now together in eternity. Omke was predeceased by his wife, Froukje who passed away on January 28, 2001. He is survived by his loving children, Dwight and Jeannie Vos of Kamloops, Marg and Gerry Hessel of Red Deer, Henny Switzer of Surrey, B.C., John and Betty Vos of Kelowna and Andy and Karen Vos of Victoria, B.C. Omke is also survived by his grandchildren Rob, Barb, Jeff, Brett, Mark, Alex, Adrienne, Brent, Mike, Jenna and Kevin, as well as one very special great granddaughter, Megan Hessel who gave him much joy. Also surviving are one brother and sister- in-law, Jacob and Tinie Vos; a sister Alie Smid in Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 67A Street, Red Deer on Monday, May 21, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. The Family Burial will take place at Alto-Reste Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 16 McVicar Street, Red Deer on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Jim Pot officiating. WEST

Jolayne Merle West passed away tragically on June 11, 2001 at the age of 52 years. She is survived by her sons Cory McHugh (Liana) of Edmonton and Bob McHugh of Ponoka; grandson Michael Schwarz, special best friend Don Ogilvie of Lacombe; former husband Brian West of Ponoka; mother Merle Atkinson of Lethbridge, brothers Garth Atkinson and Duane (Lynn) Atkinson of Calgary; sisters Diane (Merle) Haskell of Calgary and Sharon (Andy) VanWyck of Medicine Hat; sisters-in-law Joan Atkinson of Olds, Cathy Voshell of Calgary, Margaret (Roy) Toma of Calgary and Mary (Bob) Finnigan of Airdrie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband Patrick McHugh, father Robert Atkinson, brother Blair Atkinson and brothers-in-law Jim McHugh and John Voshell. Funeral Services will be held from the Ponoka First Baptist Church (5109-57 Ave.) on Friday, June 15, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Blackfalds Cemetery. WHITTEMORE

Mrs. Janet D. "Jessie" Whittemore of Red Deer passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2001 at the age of 87 years. Jessie was born on June 17, 1913 at Fife, Fifeshire, Scotland. In 1927 she emigrated from Scotland to Canada with her family and settled in the Valley Centre district, east of Red Deer. On April 7, 1938 Jessie was united in marriage to Frank Whittemore and the couple farmed north of Pine Lake. In 1947 the family moved and made Red Deer their home. She loved helping the community, the church, friends, and especially her family. Jessie enjoyed baking, reading, sewing, walking the Red Deer trails and flowers. She is survived by her loving family, Jean and her husband Ken McCulloch of Breton, Doris and her husband Norman Simons of Edmonton; Ron Whittemore of Red Deer; and Lois and her husband Barry Hornung of Red Deer; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; her brother, John (Freddie) Morgan of Red Deer; her sisters-in-law, Mildred Morgan of Red Deer, and Mary Morgan of Lethbridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as her parents, Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Frank; her daughter-in-law, Edna; and her two brothers, George and Bill. A celebration of Jessie Whittemore's life will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 4929-54th Street, Red Deer, on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend John McKay officiating. WILKINSON

Walter Coulson Wilkinson born 15 August, 1907, Pudsey, Leeds, Yorkshire England died 20 May, 2001, Lacombe, Alberta. Walter was predeceased by his wife Stella (nee Hagerty), his parents Hannah (nee Coulson) and Walter Procter Wilkinson, step father Fred Cooper, and two sisters, Florence and Ethel. Celebrating his life are his daughter, Carole (Morris) Scriven, son W. Keith (Diana Ellis) Wilkinson, grandchildren, Jason (Janni Aragon) Scriven, Suzanne Scriven, Charlotte Hannah Ellis Wilkinson, and one great granddaughter, Kennedy Hannah Aragon Scriven. Mountain View Funeral Chapel, Olds is in charge of arrangements. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, 30 May 2001, 2:00 pm. at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers a donation to Home Care at Lacombe Community Health Center 5010-51 St., Lacombe or to the charity of the donors choice would be most appreciated.

WOOD

passed away at the Fort Macleod Hospital, on Saturday, May 12, 2001, MRS. PAMELA JEAN WOOD, at the age of 69 years, beloved wife of Mr. Robert Wood, of Fort Macleod. Pam was born in Liverpool, England on February 16, 1932 to Reginald and Kay Cole, their only child. Pam was raised and received her education in Liverpool. On January 9, 1957, Pam married Bob in Brighton, England. Together they moved to Canada, settling into the Nation Parks System at Banff, AB. Pam and the children followed Bob through Western Canada with the Parks Service. In her later years, Pam and Bob retired to Cochrane, Red Deer and finally to Fort Macleod where she has resided until her passing. Pam loved horses, riding as a young girl in England. She was very athletic and adapted well to the National Parks lifestyle, raising four children. She enjoyed hiking, climbing, ski mountaineering and cross county skiing. She loved the outdoors and all its seasons. Besides her loving husband Bob, Pam is survived by three daughters Jan (Rob) Lewis, of Sylvan Lake, AB, Leslie (Frank Burstrom) Wood, of Val Marie, SK. and Jennifer (Brad Freer) Wood, of Canmore, AB; son Bill (Robin) Wood, of Granum, AB; eight grandchildren Sheri, Garrett, David, Evan, Mike, Clayton and Devyn; and her great-granddaughter Shayla. Cremation at MARTIN BROS. CHAPEL OF PEACE. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Martin Bros. Funeral Chapels Ltd., 1-800-382-2901.
