FERGUSON

Alexander "John" Ferguson, of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at his home July 9, 2001 at the age of 82 years. John was born June 19, 1919 in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. In 1942 he joined the army, later transferring to the Navy, where he pursued his dream of learning mechanics. John took a number of mechanics courses, honing his natural skills, which later proved to be a life long career. In 1947, he moved to Calgary, then Red Deer in 1965. In 1967 he became a heavy duty mechanic for the City of Red Deer Transit System until his retirement in 1984. John had a passion for tractor pulls and often entered competitions, he enjoyed snowmobiles, motorcycles, ultra light aircraft, as well as special times with good friends. He received his ham radio license in 1990 and was a member of the Red Deer Ham Radio Club until his passing. John was predeceased by Ethel, his wife of 33 years and his parents. John is survived by four children, Robert of Kelowna, B.C., Harry of Kamloops, B.C., Donald of Hinton, Alberta, Dianne Durand of the Yukon, five step daughters Charlotte Bolze, Joanne Richards, Deborah Angel all of Red Deer, Denise Shermack of Edmonton, Dianne Benoit of Port Hope, Ontario and step-son Charles Teigland of Calgary. Three sisters, Jean Smith and June Baruba of Surrey, B.C. and Kathleen Busby of Grenfell, Saskatchewan., numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of a funeral service, a casual gathering for family and friends will be held at his home at 17 Fern Road, Red Deer, between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2001. Personal Alternatives of Red Deer in charge of arrangements. As an expression of sympathy, contributions may be made to the Alberta Lung Association.

FRASER

Mr. William Francis Fraser of Red Deer, Alberta passed away June 29, 2001 at the age of 71 years. Predeceased by his loving wife Joyce in 1999, Francis is survived by his daughter Brenda (Keith) Shields of Red Deer; his three sons Pat (Iris) of Edmonton, Wayne of Red Deer and Colin (Marie) of Calgary; 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four brothers Jim, Bob, Jerry and Kenneth; three sisters Beatrice Marple, Marion Harrington and Shirley Lester as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A Lacombe on Thursday, July 5, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. Dorothy (Forsell) French of Fairview, Alberta passed away at the Fairview Regional Hospital on July 18, 2001 at the age of 78 years. She was born on August 18, 1922 at Leedale, Alberta. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Gerald (Darlene) Forsell of Edmonton; Patricia (David) Lightbown of Eckville; Carol Ann (Ronald) Craig of Lousanna; and Susan (Gabriel) Lavay of Fairview. She will also be lovingly remembered by 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; and one sister-in-law. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Elzer Forsell in 1956; her second husband Lloyd French in 1988; one infant grandson in 1965; one infant great granddaughter in 1996; and one brother in 1981. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's United Church, Fairview on Friday, July 20, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Michael Cochrane officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at the Gilby Cemetery, Gilby, Alberta on Sunday, July 22, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. with the Reverend Sandra Franklin-Law officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church Hall, 5120-49 Street, Eckville, Alberta. GRIMSON

Mr. Earl B. Grimson passed away quietly at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at the age of 75 years. Earl was born on the homestead, Leafy Ridge Farm, February 18, 1926, 1st son of Christine and Grimur Grimson. He began his schooling in the Burnt Lake School, continued on to high school in Red Deer and completed two years at Olds Agricultural College, graduating in 1947. Earl then returned home to farm with his parents. He married Helen Pugh, Sylvan Lake in 1951. Together they raised four children. Earl farmed the homestead for 46 years. In 1972 he began a career with the Co-operators Insurance Services opening and operating his office in Lacombe until his retirement. He initiated, or was involved in numerous community causes, which he was loyal to and passionate about. Earl is survived by his loving wife Helen of fifty years; children, Anne (Pete) Sisson, Kathryn (Peter) Classon, Douglas (Ann Lee), Kenneth (Trudy); nine grandchildren, Kristofur, Robert, Leah Sisson; Douglas Clavier; Nicolla and Ryan; Karly, Nathan, and Mark; one great grandchild Isaiah Reimer (Nicolla); sisters Lavona Willems (Texas); Jean Finley (Bud); brother Lawrence Grimson and brother in law Art Carritt, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Earl was predeceased by his parents; Grimur (1964), Christine (1997); Sister Alberta (Alfred) Swainson (1953); brother Samuel (1977); sister Dorothy Carritt (1999); sister Lily Gillette (2000); Nephew Ronald Grimson (2000). Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2001 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church Sylvan Lake, Rev. Bob Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Diabetes Association. Mary Nelle Groundwater of Airdrie, Alberta passed away July 15, 2001 at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 80 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Alastair in 1989. Mary is survived by her three children, Richard (Susan) Groundwater; Judy (Gerry) Carvell; Lee (Mike) Hogan; 3 grandchildren, Tyson and Bryce Carvell; Sarah Groundwater; sister, Betty Jacqelin Cormode. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the Beiseker Catholic Church. Cremation. Luncheon to follow from the Acme Legion. GUSEK, RAY

On Friday, July 6, 2001 Mr. Ray Gusek of Drayton Valley passed away suddenly at the age of 58 years. He will be treasured forever in the memories of his loving family: wife, Betty; two daughters, Yvonne (Don) Waring of Lloydminster, Elaine Gusek of Calgary; grandchildren, Kelby and Cassie; four brothers, seven sisters and their families. A Celebration of Ray's Life will be held at the Drayton Valley Elk's Hall on Thursday, July 12, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Phyllis Greenslade officiating. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Brazeau Search & Rescue, or a charity of their choice. HANSSEN

Magnus Hanssen passed away July 9, 2001 at the Red Deer Nursing Home. He was born in Orland, Norway on July 24, 1910 and came to Canada in 1929 where he joined his brother John in the Viking, Alberta area. There he met and married his life-long love, Ada Murray, on June 30, 1939. They were together until her death in 1998. During his working years Magnus managed a number of creameries in Alberta as well as being a property manager in Hinton. He and Ada moved to Red Deer in 1976 to be close to their grandchildren and where he tended his gardens in his retirement. No weed dared to show itself! He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Larry Ellenwood, Red Deer; his granddaughters, Lara Ellenwood of Vancouver and Patty and Mike Carley; and great grandsons, Sean and Ross Carley of Red Deer; as well as his brother Astor and sisters, Johanne, Kristine and Anne in Norway. The family will be holding a Celebration of Magnus' Life at a later date. If friends desire they can make a donation to the charity of their choice. His favorite was the Canadian Cancer Society.

HAWKINS

Mr. Rhyan T. Hawkins of Bowden, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Calgary Foothills Hospital on July 15, 2001 at the age of 21 years. Rhyan was a wonderful and caring person whose family meant everything to him. He was always there for everyone, a loving and caring person to all - whether they were friends or family members. Rhyan had a tremendous love of life, with never a worry. This was obvious in his terrific sense of humor. Rhyan loved to sing and was a diligent sports enthusiast, loving many sporting and recreation activities. Since grade nine, he always had the dream of becoming a helicopter pilot. Rhyan had registered and was accepted to begin this training in September. With his life's determination, he tried hard to ensure this dream came true. "Rhyan was a special person who will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends". Rhyan will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Susan and Tom Hawkins of Bowden; one sister, Jill Hawkins at home. Memorial services will be held at the Bowden Lions Community Hall, Bowden on Saturday, July 21, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. with Leanne V. Hall officiating. Cremation.
