KOENIG

Following a very lengthy illness, it is with great sadness we say goodbye to a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Gladys Elizabeth Koenig passed away on Friday, July 20, 2001 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Glady was born March 18, 1937 in Red Deer. She leaves to mourn, her husband Mel of forty-three years; her two daughters, Jerri Koenig and Sandra Foster (Kevin) of Red Deer; her grandchildren, Ryan and Jenna; her sisters, Grace Gummow and Rosie (Roger) Nichols; her aunt, Grace Bolze all of Red Deer; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. Glady was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Frieda Mosebach; and her brother, Heinz. Glady was employed with the WCB in Edmonton before moving back to Red Deer. She was employed with CFB Penhold, she also worked for Alberta Fish and Wildlife and Alberta Public Lands Department. Glady was proud of her family and home, she loved the outdoors, was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed a great game of cards with friends. A celebration of Glady's life will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross Street, Red Deer, Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend John Yoos officiating. Relatives and friends wishing to come and share their memories with the family may also pay their respects at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, July 24th between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. If desired, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. KURTZ

Edna Grace Kurtz (nee Johnson) of Red Deer, passed away on July 5, 2001 at the age of 87 years. Born at Lost Lake, Alberta on December 30, 1913, Edna lived with her family until 1938 when she married Ted Kurtz in Lethbridge and settled in the Picture Butte area. They moved to a farm in the Evergreen district in 1958 and retired to the Town of Lacombe in 1981. Edna moved to Red Deer in 1990 where she continued to enjoy her retirement in closer proximity to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons. Edna Grace Kurtz, beloved wife of the late Theodore "Ted" John Kurtz (1990); devoted and loving mother of two sons and one daughter, Gregory of Ventura, California, Ronald (Dee) of Ottawa, Ontario, Carolynn (Fred) Wilson of Red Deer, Alberta; cherished and loving grandmother of Tanner and Fraser Wilson; loving sister to two brothers Allen of Lundbreck and Everist of Lethbridge; one sister Mildred Byrne of Lethbridge; a caring aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Les and Harriet Johnson, sister Marion York, brother Melvin. Funeral Services will be held from the "67th Street Chapel" of the Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150-67th Street, Red Deer, on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. will be forwarded directly to the family. LAING

M. Jean Laing (nee Blakley) 1909-2001 On July 1, 2001 Jean Laing passed away peacefully at Coronation, Alberta. She is survived by her children, Merla Burchell of Castor, AB., Bud (Ronald Blakley) Pye of Slave Lake, AB., Gail Heald-Taylor of Stony Point, ONT. and Sharon Whitlow of Edmonton, AB; her sister Hilda Martin of Victoria, B.C.; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Auburn C. Pye and her second husband, Neil Laing. Jean was born in Ontario and raised just northwest of Red Deer, AB. Aside from operating a bulk gasoline service station during the second world war, a trucking business during the construction of the Alaska highway, farming east of Innisfail, AB., operating a general store in Penhold, AB. and business ventures in Whitecourt, AB. she helped to homestead land in the Peers, AB. area in her later years. She will be sadly missed by all. A gathering was held to remember Jean at the Coronation Assisted Living Complex in Coronation, AB. on July 3, 2001. A special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at the Assisted Living Complex, as well as the general hospital staff. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Tolmie for his kindness and exceptional care. In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the Coronation Health Centre Assisted Living, Mail Bag 500, Coronation, Alberta, T0C 1C0.

LAWRENCE

Albert Lawrence of Mirror passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on July 23, 2001 at the age of 73 years after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 21, 1928 in Montreal, Quebec. Albert is survived by his beloved wife Dolores and eight children, Deborah (Tom), Kathryn (Mark), Carole, Rita (Cyril), Victoria (Justin), Michael, Vickie (Glen), and Melissa. He also leaves to mourn 22 loving grandchildren (including Randy and Robyn) who were living with him and Dolores until his passing, and 11 precious great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the L.D.S. Chapel in Brampton, Ontario in late August, where Albert was an active member of his church and community before retiring to Mirror, AB in 1998. Funeral Services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel Lacombe on Saturday, July 28, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Mirror Cemetery. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 4730A Ross Street, Red Deer, AB, T4N 1X2. LECHELT

Mrs. Margaret "Isabel" Lechelt of Red Deer passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 13, 2001 at the age of 97 years. Isabel had a wonderful life and touched all of those who knew her with her quiet and sincere personality. She was born on March 6, 1904 at Red Deer. After graduating from Camrose Normal School in 1924, she taught in a number of school districts throughout Central Alberta. Those districts included Wood Lake, Loyalty, Kuusame, Craig, Bell- grove and Evarts. In all of those placements Isabel was well regarded by everyone, students, parents and fellow teachers. A short time later she moved to British Columbia where she met Adolph Lechelt. They were married in Creston, B.C. on July 10, 1948. In the 1950's the couple moved back to Red Deer where Isabel owned and operated Vogue Beauty Salon on Ross Street, until her retirement. Isabel had a healthy and active life, even receiving an Award of Merit in the 1997 Interlodge Fitness Challenge Walkathon. She also found time to volunteer her services as a hairdresser at the Red Deer Hospital from 1970 to 1976, as well as volunteering for a number of years at the clothing bank. She is survived by her stepson, Allan (Eileen) Lechelt of Edmonton; her stepdaughter, Alice Freschette of Red Deer; her sisters-in-law, Jennie Gilbert and Gladys Petersen; five step grandchildren; ten great step grandchildren; three great great step- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Isabel was predeceased by her husband Adolph J. Lechelt; her sister, May Allison; and her four brothers, Bruce, Alvin, Ralph and Gordon Gilbert. A celebration of Isabel Lechelt's life will be held at the Sunnybrook United Church, 12 Stanton Street, Red Deer on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Mary Ellen Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Deer Cemetery. If desired, tributes may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. MAURO

Nilo Mauro of Red Deer passed away suddenly on Monday, July 16, 2001 at the age of 49 years. Nilo is survived by his loving wife, friend and life companion, Norma; he also leaves behind his three children, Amy, Jonathan, and Andrea, who were the pride and joy of his life. His children were always able to count on their father to be there for them in life, and they will draw inspiration from him forever. Nilo is also survived by his father, Luigi Mauro; and will also be in the hearts of his two sisters, Ivana, her husband Tracy and their children, Gina and Jaden, and Angela, her husband Claudio and their children, Efrem, Emilio and Noemi; his big brother, Erminio and his daughters, Felicia and Nicole; also grieving his loss are his mother and father-in-law, Audrey and Eric Rayner; and his two brothers-in-law, Greg Rayner and his children, James, Trevor, Scott and Kristin, and Daryl (Shannon) and their children, Eliza, Ben and Sam; and many of Nilo's friends too numerous to mention. Nilo was predeceased by his mother, Luisa in 1991, his Nonna Querin in 1972 and his Nonno Querin in 1976, they're looking after you again Nilo. Nilo touched the lives of all those he came in contact with in a positive manner, and was always ready to lend a hand. Nilo worked for Border Paving from the time he was seventeen years old and loved every minute of the time he spent there. Thank you Santolo and Vic Walls. Nilo will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayer services at the Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass for the late Nilo Mauro will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508-48th Avenue, Red Deer, on Friday, July 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Donald Stein Celebrant. McMILLAN

Margaret (Peg) McMillan passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2001 at the age of 91. She was surrounded by her family and friends, her nephew Don (Lorna) Cote, great nieces Mary Ann (Kirk) Hogarth, Jan Simpson and Carol (Brian) Oshust & her many friends at West Park Lodge. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Alec Mitchell of Cardross SK., a sister-in-law Jean (Fred) Findlay of Regina, SK and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Grant in 1995, her brother Alec Gall, four sisters, Mary Mitchell, Bessie Cote, Mina Del Frari & Frances Donald. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at the West Park Lodge, 5715 - 41 St. Crsc. with Rev. Bob Wilson officiating. MOORHEAD

Mrs. Emma Jean Moorhead of Red Deer passed away peacefully at the Valley Park Manor on Monday, July 10, 2001 at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her loving sons Rick, Robin and Chuck, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emma was predeceased by her husband Robert James Moorhead, and two daughters Lorna and Lynda Rae. A Private Family Service will be held.
