PETERSON

Florence Emily Josephine Peterson (Kenner) passed away July 8, 2001. Florence was born July 14, 1914 in Rimbey, AB, to parents Fred and Blanche Kenner. She graduated from the General Hospital, Edmonton with her R.N. and came to Bentley to nurse from 1937-1942, some of it as Matron. Even today she was amazed to have people come up to her and ask if she had been their nurse or delivered their baby. October 20, 1942, she was united in marriage to William (Big Bill) Peterson of Bentley, where she resided until Easter Monday 2000 when she moved to the Sylvan Lake Seniors Lodge. Florence was very active in the community as, Past President of the Bentley Hospital Auxiliary, President and Secretary of the Bentley UCW, Secretary of the Bentley Drop In Centre, supporter of the Bentley Museum and Bentley's 75th Anniversary. On June 3, 2001 Florence had received her 50 year pin from the Lacombe Order of Eastern Star, Alexander Chapter No. 4. She had been Worthy Matron in 1962. Florence was a lover of her flowers and garden, roses were her passion. She also was very talented with her hand work, some of her baby sets found their way to Europe and different States. She took great pride in her work and had entered her work along with her fruit cakes at the Red Deer, Benalto, Bentley and Rimbey fairs, plus the Calgary Stampede. Her last year of showing was 1999. Predeceased by her husband Bill January 14, 1975, her mother Blanche June 2, 1964 and her father Fred February 21, 1965 along with her brother Charlie July 7, 1995. She leaves to mourn her loving daughter Marg Martin (Gary Riley) of Bentley, a very special granddaughter Lisa Tonsi (Tony) of Bentley. The apple of Florence's eye, great granddaughter Hayley Tonsi, her sister Myrtle Geary (Lawrence) of Penticton, B.C. and their family, the families of her brother Charlie, also Bill's sister Ruth Trout of Edmonton, sister-in-law Reg Peterson of Red Deer, and their families along with the families of Bill's other sisters and brothers. A very special nurse friend Dorothy Wilde of Edmonton, school friend Marj Goings of Rimbey along with her very special Bentley friends. Funeral Services will be held from the Bentley United Church on Saturday, July 14, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Bentley Cemetery. PETERSON

Harry Alfred Peterson passed away suddenly at the age of 90 years at the Valley Park Manor, Red Deer. He was a well known, long time resident of the Hickling District. Harry was born at Elnora, Alberta on November 23, 1910 to Gustav and Mary Peterson. He was raised and attended school to Grade Nine in the Pine Lake area. He moved to a farm south of Mirror with his parents when he was fifteen years old. Harry was the fourth of five children. He worked at various jobs until 1936 when he met and married Margaret Barton. That same year, the couple bought their own quarter section west of Mirror. In 1982, Harry bought an acreage northwest of Rimbey. In 1996, he moved back to Tees where he resided until 1999 when a stroke left him unable to live alone. Harry enjoyed his three favorite past times, fishing, reading and checkers, right up until his passing. Harry is survived by his four children, Alfred (Vicky), Harold (Linda), Diana (Milen) and Bruce; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren as well as numerous extended family members; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gustav and Mary, three sisters, Annie, Freda and Emma and a brother John. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 27, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mirror United Church with Pastor Jim Sturgeon officiating. Interment will follow at the Mirror Cemetery. PRINS

Mr. Ralph Richard Prins of Lacombe, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 28, 2001 at the age of 56 years. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 33 years of marriage Joanne, his four children Shawn (Tracey) Prins, Yvonne (Vince) Spelt, Brad (Fiona) Prins, Karla (Duncan) McKay, eight grandchildren all from west of Lacombe. He is also survived by his siblings Dina (George) Boonstra of Crescent Beach, B.C., Frank (Irene) Prins of Gull Lake, A.B., Ron (Tena) Prins of Lacombe, Joyce (John) Perman of Ferndale, W.A., as well as numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and a multitude of close friends. Ralph is predeceased by both his parents, his sister Winifred Medema and his brother Jack Prins. He was born in Lacombe in 1944, the fifth child of John & Geertje Prins. His special interests include spending time with his family, usually involving a good meal. Ralph enjoyed countryside drives and had a love of nature and farming. He had a talent for lathing wood and make many beautiful bowls, canisters, vases and other interesting items. His love of playing games of pool, Rook, Hearts and other games with his friends and family. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association #101, 4826-47th St. Red Deer, A.B., T4N 1R2 or to the Lacombe Christian School 5206-58th St. Lacombe, AB., T4L 1G9. Funeral services will be held from Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church, Woody Nook on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Abma Officiating. RANDALL

Mrs. Hannah Randall of Valley Park Manor, Red Deer passed away on July 2, 2001 at the age of 104 years. Hannah was born on August 12, 1896 in Birmingham, England. She came to Canada at the age of 17, as a traveling companion for a lady. Hannah then met and married her husband, Frank and they resided at Lacombe, before moving to Red Deer, where she resided for the rest of her life. She is survived by her daughters, Louise Robinson and Gwen (Mel) Wilson; her three grandsons and their families, Allen (Colleen) Randal, Garry (Donna) Randal, and Rob Wilson; her four granddaughters and their families, Shirley (Dan) Hubbard, Maxine (Wayne) Huston, Dawn Wilson (Carl), and Holly Hoffman; Hannah was a proud grandmother to several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Randal; many nieces and nephews; and very special and devoted friends, Craig and Cathy Martin. Hannah was predeceased by her husband Frank; daughter May; son, Gene; son-in-law, Henry Robinson; and two grandsons, Craig Randal and Larry Robinson. A celebration of Hannah Randall's life will be held at the Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer on Friday, July 6, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe. RUFF

Mr. Jesse Rexonald Ruff of Red Deer passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord whom he loved and served, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at 90 years of age. He was born in Sudbury, Ontario, on March 8, 1911 but was raised on a homestead farm outside of Kindersley. Jess attended a one-room school in Beadle then went on to graduate from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills and attend the Canadian Bible College in Regina. He was ordained as a minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in 1942 and married Dorothy Jean Crocker in 1946. After serving under the Canadian Sunday School Mission in Leslieville, Bingley, Bonneville, Garth and Francheer, Jess pastored Alliance Churches in Sturgis, Vermillion, Giscome, Evansburg and Condor. Because of severe illness, Jess retired from the ministry in 1953 and took a bookkeeping course. After he held jobs of clerk and bookkeeper in B.C. and Alberta the Ruff family moved to Red Deer where Jess worked for 29 years for Corbett Auto Electric, Cormac Auto Electric and McAuley Electric Motors. During these years he was an invaluable help to Dorothy as she coordinated the Fairview Kindergarten Society. Jess was very active in the Red Deer (Deer Park) Christian and Missionary Alliance Church teaching and serving on elders boards and various committees. Jess' ready greeting and special humor endeared him to all with whom he worked and served. Jess is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; his daughter, Carolyn (husband Jim, Gregory and Steven Wallace) of Marietta, Georgia; his son Dave (wife Betty, Jeremy and Nathan Ruff) of Calgary; brother Herman and wife Mabel of Saskatoon. Other family members who mourn Jess' passing include Jo & Norman Galbraith (sister-in-law), Penticton; Kenneth & Elaine Crocker (brother-in- law), Saskatoon; Allan & Myrtle Crocker (brother-in-law), Penticton; Milford & Ruby Crocker (brother-in-law), Surrey. As well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. Jess was predeceased by his sister Lillian (1937), his father Jesse (1956), his mother Helena (1976) and his sister Ellen (1998). Following a private internment, a memorial service in celebration of Jess' life will be held at Deer Park Alliance Church, 2960-39 Street, Red Deer on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. A viewing for family and friends will be at Deer Park Alliance on Sunday, July 29, 2001 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Gideons International or Deer Park Alliance Church Building Project.

SCHLOSSER

Donna Schlosser of Clive, Alberta passed away suddenly at the tender age of 52 years on Sunday, July 1, 2001 with her husband Russell at her side. Along with her husband of 34 years, Donna is survived by her two children; Mike (Tracy) and Nikki (Pat) and one grandson Jesse Schlosser. She is also survived by her mother Beulah Knutson, one sister Sandy (Don) Lillies, and one brother Roy McNutt. Our mother, wife and best friend will be deeply missed. A private visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, Lacombe, Alberta. SHAW

Bernice Margo Petrin November 4, 1931 - July 13, 2001. Gone but not forgotten. passed away in Burnaby, BC. To join the Kingdom of God. She is of love, forgiveness, kindness and passion of God. She will be missed greatly by her very close friend Fred Marsden, her sister, loving children and many other friends. May all remember her in spirit and prayer. God Bless Margo's loving soul.

SOUVENY, Doreen

Her angel came to her many times during her life when she needed her. Now her angel has come and taken her home. Doreen Marlain Helwig was born east of Olds, Alberta on August 29, 1934. She married her loving husband, Dan Souveny on December 24, 1954. She was blessed with three precious children, Dwaine (Alligator), Christine (Sweet Baby Girl) Frehlich, Terrance (My Ter Guy). Also left to treasure her memory are two special daughters-in-law, Dianna and Anne; and seven pride and joy grandchildren, Shaun, Jennifer, Tracy, Matthew, Alicia, Michelle and Rodger; one great granddaughter, Taylor; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Doreen was a member of the Foothills United Church in Bowness, Calgary where she was baptized March 8, 1981. Dan and Doreen lived in Calgary until 1990 when they followed their children to Central Alberta and retired to Lacombe. While living in Lacombe she had been attending St. Andrew's United Church. She was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters since 1955 and she and Dan were involved in some of the Forester's fund raising events for children. Doreen loved music, especially hymns inspired by her mother. One of her greatest joys was when her family would visit and go to church with her. She derived great pleasure in doing things with her children and grand-children. Through the years, she provided loving childcare to many children in her home. In her later years she enjoyed bowling and bingo and developed some wonderful new friendships while doing these activities. Doreen is survived by four sisters, Bernice, Lucille, Francis and Bette. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Bertha and Walter Helwig; sister Linda Morley (and two other sisters and three brothers during her childhood). A celebration of Doreen's life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, Lacombe on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Ross Smillie officiating. Interment will follow in the Olds Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honour to "Friends of Children With Special Needs", #401, 5000 Gaetz Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 6C2.
