Mr. Peter Neufeld of Blackfalds passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 15, 2002 at the age of 79 years. Peter was born in the family home in Great Deer, Sask., on September 25, 1922 and grew up in the Rosthern Area. After working on various farms, Pete joined the Army in March of 1945 and was stationed in various locations all across Canada. After leaving the army, he completed his education in Regina & Saskatoon. He then moved to Yellowknife and worked in the Giant Mines. From there in December of 1949 he joined the Air Force in Edmonton, AB. Prior to joining the Air Force, he met Ethel Harder in Rosthern, Sask., they were united in marriage November 19th, 1950. From this marriage came five children. Due to being in the Air Force they resided in many places and their children were born in Goose Bay Labrador, Calgary, AB., Zweibrucken, Germany, Bagotville, Que. and Alsask, Sask. In 1972 he retired from the forces as a Sargeant after many years with the military police, and chose Central Alberta as home. After retiring he spent many years driving for Loomis. In 1973 one of his proudest moments was the purchase of the home in Blackfalds where he resided until his passing. Predeceased by father Bernhard Neufeld, mother Aganetha Newdorf, step-mother Helena (Martins), step-mother Anna Janzen, brothers Isaac (Sarah), Dick, infant brother Jacob, he is survived by his loving wife Ethel of 51 years, children Sharon (Drew) Cahill, Peter, Bonnie and great grandson Jayden, Diana Lynn Onions and Jeffrey, Darrell (Brenda) Neufeld, Chelsea, Ashley, Kristopher, Yvonne (Michael) Newsom, Phillip, Zane, and Luke, Janet Hauff, Mackenzie and Valerie, sister Helen (Ed) Friesen, brother Bill (Rose) Janzen, sister Ella (Kelvin) Manton, brother Ed Neufeld, and sister-in-law Gertie Neufeld. Mr. David Blair Olsen of Red Deer, passed away at Foothills Hospital, Calgary, on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at the age of 44 years. David was born on August 19, 1957 in Brandon, Manitoba. For many years Dave pipelined with Bannister & PeBen Pipelines. Following an injury to his leg, Dave's life changed dramatically, as his love of driving truck was no longer an option. Dave then went back to school and earned an honors diploma as a land agent. He is survived by his loving wife, Keltie; two special children, his daughter, Jaclyn of Red Deer; his son, Curtis of Red Deer; his parents, Gordon and Donna Olsen of Red Deer; his two brothers, Milton (Debby) and their daughters, Michelle and Amanda of Grande Prairie; and Brent and his sons, Christopher and Matthew of Stony Plain; his sister, Maureen (Ken) Funk and their daughters, Danielle and Brittney of Red Deer; his mother-in-law, Doreen Van Lune; his three brother-in-laws, Raymond McLean, Don McLean and Arlen McLean; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a great many friends. HARDING
Les Harding of Red Deer passed away peacefully at the Auxiliary Hospital on Monday, April 8, 2002 at the age of 85 years. Born in Bristol, England in 1916, Les emigrated to Canada with his mother at age 4. He grew up on a farm near Acme, AB. Les served in the R.C.A.F. during WWII. In 1944 he married Ellen Winser in Winnipeg, MB and they returned to Acme. In 1947 Les began working for the Dairy Pool (Alpha) and continued with them until his retirement. Les is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; four children, Donna (Harvey) Pidhirney, Betty (Bob) Christianson, Garry (Bernice) Harding and Gale Lee; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Christian Assembly, 6315 Horn Street, Red Deer, AB. Viewing 12:00-12:45 p.m. No flowers by request. Mr. Charles Harold "Hal" Haverstock of Red Deer, formerly of Camrose, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, on Friday, April 12, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Hal was raised in many towns in Central Alberta. After five years with The Royal Bank of Canada, Hal attended the University of Alberta. When war broke out, Hal enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he flew for twenty-five years. Following the war, Hal joined Mutual Life Insurance (now Clarica) and continued for some twenty-seven successful years. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Hope; his daughter, Pat (John) Hannah of Winnipeg, Manitoba; his son, Charles (Diana) Haverstock of Red Deer; his four grandchildren, Susan, Chris, Stephen, Anne Marie; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Haverstock of Calgary. Hal was predeceased by his parents, Bernice in 1939 and George K. Haverstock in 1974 at Edmonton; stepmother, Rose Haverstock of Edmonton; his brother Jack Haverstock of Calgary in 1985; his sister, Margaret Burgar of Camrose in 1992; a niece, Jane Handly in 1982; and Rod Burgar in 1963. A celebration of Hal Haverstock's life will be held at St. Leonard's On-The-Hill Anglican Church, 4241 - 44th Street, Red Deer, on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. with The Venerable Archdeacon Derek Hoskin officiating. Margaret Paylor, aged 85 years, passed away peacefully at the Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary on Wednesday, March 27, 2002. She is survived by her loving husband Walter; sons, Woody (Val) and Jay (Debbi); daughter Penny MacLachlan (Red); grandchildren, Darva Macbeth, Kim Paylor, Darren Paylor, Jeremy Paylor, Ben Paylor, Wesley Paylor, Sean MacLachlan and Tara MacLachlan; and fourteen great grandchildren as well as a brother Malcolm Eagle (Gloria) and a sister Janet Rowlatt. A member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile, Margaret was an ardent worker with her fraternities as well as numerous volunteer organizations. Mrs. Emelie Marie Trebble, beloved wife of the late Roy Trebble of Red Deer passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the age of 79 years. Emelie was raised in Whitla, a farming community in southern Alberta. In 1941, during World War II, she joined the Canadian Division of the Armed Forces, serving with the Canadian Woman's Army Corps (C.W.A.C.) She was attached to the Quarter Master and served as clerical personnel achieving Corporal distinction. In 1943, Emelie married Kenneth B. Thiesson. Emelie was also very artistic and loved to sing and listen to music. Her fondest times were entertaining family and friends in her home. She cherished her family and was always very kind and considerate. She was loved by all. Emelie is survived by her son, Gary Thiesson of Medicine Hat; her daughter, Jeanette (Ronald) Cleveland of Bakersfield, California; her five grandsons, Christopher (Susan) Thiesson, Andrew Thiesson, Cody Cleveland, Douglas Landon and Kurt Cleveland; great grandson, Monty; her brother, George Anton of B.C.; her two sisters, Irma Seibert of Red Deer and Caroline Sullivan of Mt. BATTLE
Mr. John W. Battle of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre, Ponoka on Monday, March 18, 2002 at the age of 88 years. John was the eldest son born to John and Faye Battle on September 23, 1913 in Delia, Alberta. He attended school in the Delia area and completed Grade 8 before quitting school to help his father on the family farm. A few years later, John met and was later united in marriage to Wilma Julson on October 28, 1939. In 1940, they were blessed with their first child, Russell Gary. John and Wilma farmed together in the Delia District until the spring of 1941, at which time John enlisted in the army. He spent four years serving his country during W.W.II returning home on September 23, 1945. John and Wilma purchased the family farm from John's father in 1946, through the Department of Veterans Affairs. The young family grew, as Diana Gail was born in 1947, and Sandra Irene followed in 1952. The family was finally complete with the birth of David John in 1956, and Elizabeth Lynn in 1964. In March of 1969, John left farming due to his health and moved with his family to Crossfield, Alberta where he worked as a Commissionaire at various locations. In 1972, the family moved to Nanaimo, B.C. for a few years, where John was employed as a carpenter. The family returned to Alberta in 1975 and settled in Red Deer where he was employed as a security guard at a number of locations, including the Red Deer Hospital. Upon their retirement in 1987, John and Wilma moved to Drumheller, where they enjoyed many years together in a seniors' housing complex. In 1996, they returned to Red Deer where they have resided until the present time. "John was a wonderful person who will be sadly missed...his memory always treasured by his many family and friends." John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Wilma; one son, Dave of Red Deer; three daughters, Diana Battle (Garren) of Red Deer; Sandra (Jim) Zielke of Grande Cache; and Liz Battle of Red Deer; as well as thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by two brothers, Fred Battle of Calgary and Jim Battle of Delia; three sisters, Irene Parry of Ottawa, Ontario; Louise Kathrens of Edmonton; and Margaret Rose Best of Calgary; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his son, Russell; two grandsons, Gary and Thomas; and two brothers, Robert and Thomas. Memorial Services will be held at the Delia United Church, Delia, Alberta on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Glenn Jarvis officiating. Interment of Cremated Remains will follow in the Delia Cemetery, Delia.
