Eva Leona Kocher passed away in Bentley on April 1, 2002 at the age of 85 years. Eva was born November 16, 1916, to Mabel and Charlie Winslow of Morningside. She attended Pleasant Hill School riding horseback with brothers and sisters in all kinds of weather. On February 28, 1945 she was united in marriage to Ken, the love of her life. She was a devoted wife, an excellent cook and homemaker, a gardener of a beautiful yard, flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed working with Ken in the fields, with the livestock and the hundreds of laying hens, supplying the Hotel and Nursing Home in Lacombe with eggs for many years. Eva had a special interest in so many projects, tooled leather purses and the wedding cakes she decorated for couples in the area. She was a carpenter and a fixer of everything, building outside and inside their home, repairing, remodeling, painting and building many cupboards. Eva had a special gift with colors which we saw in her home and in her clothes. She loved to sew, knit and do ceramics. She was a perfectionist on all she did. Eva never was a fan of radio or television. She had too many other things to do. Ken and Eva enjoyed many trips to Fairmont, the awesome trips to Hawaii, meeting many new and lasting friends, visits with family and friends, parades and rodeos. Predeceased by her father Charlie in March 1940; mother Mabel in May 1970; sister Grace in 1935; brother Oliver in 1992; sister Neva in 1993 and a brother Royal in 1999. MACLEOD
Donald Stuart MacLeod. On Friday, April 12, 2002 in the Dr. Richard Parsons Care Centre, Red Deer, Don died peacefully as a result of a malignant brain tumor, complicated by the effects of advanced diabetes. He had been hoping to celebrate his 70th Birthday on May 19, but it was not to be. Don led a very rich and full life. He was born in Calgary in 1932, and grew up on a farm in southern Alberta. As a young man, he was a semi-professional hockey player. After serving as an Auditor for 20 years in the post-war army, he returned to Vancouver Island where he opened his own Accounting Practice. Don was an accomplished Bridge player, who played in many tournaments, but the chief interest of his life after he moved to Red Deer was his work for Knox Presbyterian Church, especially in the ministry of Pastoral Care in which he was involved at both the regional and provincial levels. Before his final illness, Don spent a very satisfying year as Lay Minister of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Olds. During his last months of rapidly deteriorating health, Don found comfort in his strong belief in our Lord's promise of Eternal Life for those who believe in Him. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his three children, Bruce (Margaret) MacLeod; Donna (Richard) Guitar; Debra (John) Grant; and by their mother, Jean MacLeod. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Lauren and Jacqueline Guitar; and Andrew and Catherine Grant. Don will also be sadly missed by his "adopted sons", Steve Parkin and Carl Ethier; and by his stepdaughter, Sue Caldwell. A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross Street, Red Deer, on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Drew Burnand officiating. A Private Family Interment will follow. No flowers please, but any donations to the Red Deer Hospice Society, D3617-50 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 3Y5 would be most gratefully received. Condolences to the family may also be expressed by email to: special_reflections @telusplanet.net In Loving Memory of Don, a tree will be planted in Alberta.
