Robert "Bob" Oro of Lacombe, formerly of Clive, passed away On March 22, 2002 a the age of 73 years. Bob was born in Stettler, March 18, 1929. He moved with both his parents to the farm overlooking Pleasant Valley in 1945. Following 2 years at Olds College, he spent some time trucking which included a haul from Clearfield, Utah to Alaska. This was a highlight for him. Bob then spent a number of years in construction, working for Hopkins and Mills Construction where he operated a drag line and made many friends who still remain very close. It was during this time he met and married Elsie in 1954. Together they returned to the farm in Clive in 1965, becoming very involved in the community. He served on the boards of the Clive-Haynes Telephone Mutual, the local United Grain Growers Board, Co-Op Implements and the Clive Seed Cleaning Co-Op. Bob was also involved as an assistant leader in 4-H and very active in the Clive Curling Club. He was a charter member of the Clive Lions Club and greatly enjoyed working with the club. Along with his loving wife Elsie, Bob is survived by 2 sons; Greg and his wife Tammy of Morningside, Michael and his wife Kim of Clive and by his cherished special granddaughters; Samantha, Emilee and Hannah. He is also survived by his sister Jean Melling of Calgary and his brother Archie of Haynes, Uncle Rudolph and Aunt Doris Hennel of Stettler as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law. Bob was predeceased by his parents Martin and Hilda and by his brothers Marvin and Leonard. Funeral Services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Alexander Ostaszewski, beloved husband of Maria, of Red Deer passed away peacefully at the Dr. Richard Parsons Care Centre, Red Deer, on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the age of 95 years. Alexander was born in Poland and came to Canada in 1929. He enjoyed the farming life near Pine Lake until he retired. A celebration of Alexander's life will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend Erik Riechers Celebrant. PRAGNELL
Dorothea Kate Pragnell (nee Allison) December 12, 1912 - April 2, 2002. Dorothea was born in Clive, Alberta on December 17, 1912. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Clive. She went on to graduate from Normal School in Edmonton, taking up teaching positions in Jasper, Chigwell and West-ling, Alberta. She met Gerald Pragnell (formerly of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) while teaching in Jasper. They were married in Red Deer in 1950, and moved to Lethbridge. Dorothea was very active in the Lethbridge community. She was a member of Southminster United Church, taking great pride in her church group activities as well as singing in the choir. She was an avid Bridge player and an enthusiastic participant of the Mathesis Club. Following a small stroke, Dorothea moved to Edmonton in 1991 to be near her daughter and family. She made her new home at Canterbury Court, where she enjoyed many friendships and participated in a wide variety of events and outings. She resided in Canterbury Court until her death, and her family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the affection, care and tenderness given to her by Edith, Barb and all the Canterbury staff. Thank you as well to Dr. Whitaker for his caring support. Dorothea is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Trish) and husband David Reay; grandchildren Jonathan and Madeleine Reay, nephews Ted (Donna) Darling and Tom (Anne) Darling; niece Susan (Rick) Corrigan; six great-nephews and two great-nieces; brother-in-law Les (Margaret) Pragnell; as well as numerous cousins. Besides her loving husband, Gerald, in 1983; Dorothea was predeceased by her brother Eliphalet in 1926; her brother, Frank in 1942; and her sister, Mary in 1968. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2002 in Southminster United Church, 1011 - 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB. with Reverend Lois Punton officiating. Dorothea's final resting place will be with her husband Gerald, in Mount View Cemetery, Lethbridge. Mrs. Aileen Rantala (Hilman) was called to be with her Lord on March 19, 2002 at the age of 92 years. She passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Nursing Home with family at her side. Aileen is survived by her two children, John (Denise) Rantala and Mary Roy; four grandchildren, Luke, Norman, Tammy and Thomas Roy and their father Norman Roy. She is also survived by one sister and five brothers, Helen, Ray, Art, Phil, Emil and Harry Hilman. Viewing will take place at the Presbyterian Church, 5020-48th St., Sylvan Lake, AB on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with interment in Sylvan Lake Cemetery. ROBINSON
Mr. Joseph Robinson of Red Deer passed away suddenly at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the age of 78 years. Joseph was born on October 2, 1923 in Ashton-in-Makerfield, England. He volunteered for the Royal Navy at the age of 17 years and he served from 1939-1945. In 1954, he emigrated to Canada with his wife Joyce and son Paul. They settled in Stettler and lived there until 1966. Since then, the family has resided in Red Deer. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Joyce; one son Paul Robinson and his grand-daughter Shannon Eden Robinson and her mother Lee and her sisters Megan and Lindsey. He is also survived by his brother Jimmy (Ethel); his aunt Elizabeth and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in England. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles in England. Mrs. Patricia Eleane Romans, beloved wife of the late Kenneth Romans, of Red Deer, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 24, 2002 at the age of 68 years, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Pat has been a long-time resident of Red Deer. She was a good friend, known by all for her love of music, travel and nature. Pat cherished her home, her family and the simple pleasures of life. Her kindness extended to many charities which benefited from her thoughtfulness. She is survived by her loving children, Deborah Romans of Tofield, Bradford (Marie) Romans of Red Deer, Douglas (June) Romans of Georgia, U.S.A., and Janice (Terry) Plomp of St. Albert; her four grandsons, Scott Romans, Andrew Romans, Colin Plomp and Graham Plomp; and her four granddaughters, Michelle Romans, Christine Romans, Rebecca Plomp and Ally Hanson. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; as well as her parents, Reginald and Ethel Parton.
A celebration of Patricia's life will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 4929-54th Street, Red Deer, on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 12:00 noon with The Reverend John McKay officiating. Private interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
