Mrs. Margaret Mae (Marn) Picketts, beloved wife of the Late Mr. William "Bill" Picketts of Red Deer, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 10, 2002 at the age of 77 years. Margaret was born on September 13, 1924 in Warner, Alberta. She attended school in Barons, Alberta until her family moved to Iola, Alberta in 1934. She attended high school in Lacombe, Alberta where she graduated in 1942. On May 19, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to William "Bill" Picketts. They moved to Red Deer in September 1948, where Margaret worked at Hillcrest Grocery until they purchased Bill's Esso Service Station in 1971 in Blackfalds, Alberta. She took great pride working with Bill in the station. Margaret's life was very busy and interesting as she and Bill raised their six children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and all her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren - they were always very important to her. Margaret was very gifted with her hands; she was an excellent cook, enjoyed hours of crocheting, and loved to read and play bingo. Margaret leaves to mourn, her six children, Hugh (Carol) Picketts, Marlene (Eric) Bauer, Charmayne (Bill) Brown, Jeanette Edwards, Lynda (Bert) Roach and Terry (Diana) Picketts; her fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, her two sister Marion Denson and Catherine Pangle, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and many great friends. Predeceased by her husband William on May 20, 1999 after 56 years of marriage, her parents, Thomas and Margaret McCreath, one grandson, two great grandsons and one great granddaughter. A Celebration of Margaret's life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45th Street, Red Deer, on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Carmichael officiating. RICH
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Valerie H. Rich, beloved wife of Mr. Ross Rich, at her home with her family present on Friday, June 7, 2002 at the age of 70 years. Val was born in Elnora on July 28, 1931 and happily resided on the family farm until her passing. Val is survived by her loving husband, Ross and her children Rana (Glen) Goldthorpe, Ken (Lori) Rich, Marilyn Rich and Donna (Casey) McWhan, as well as eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one brother, Stanley (Lilian) Klopp and her sisters-in-law, Leah Hawick, and Irene Hawick. Predeceased by her parents Agnes and Barney Klopp, her infant son, John Lynn Rich, and three brothers, Jim Hawick, Bill Hawick, and Alec Hawick. A celebration of Val's life will be held at the Elnora Community Hall, Elnora, Alberta on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Internment to follow at the Elnora Cemetery. RODWELL
Sharon Ann Rodwell of Penhold, Alberta, after a long and courageous battle and with her family at her side passed away May 28, 2002 at the age of 47. Born June 3, 1954 in Taber, AB to Mildred and Donald Rodwell. Sharon dedicated her life to her family and friends and her pets Mia, Jake, Satin and Shandoha. She devoted many years to the community of Penhold serving the Sparks, Brownies and Guides in many capacities. Sharon was involved with the SPCA and pet visitation and most recently was instrumental with her work with the "pugs" and establishing Pug Day. Sharon is survived by her mother Mildred Rodwell of Olds, AB. Siblings Larry (Dana) Rodwell of Edmonton, Shirley (Syd) Butler of Olds, Judy (Rick) Scott of Penhold, Tom (Lori) of Taber, Doug (Joanne) of Dartmouth N.S., 6 nephews and 5 nieces, and one great niece and one great nephew. Her extended family Denise (Tye) Watson and family of Penhold, Lisa (Del) Lomsnes and family of Red Deer. Sam and family of Red Deer. Sharon touched the hearts of all that knew her and will be remembered for her strong will and fight. She will be missed by all. Sharon was predeceased be her father Donald Rodwell in 1977. SARASIN
Mrs. Lyla Flora Sarasin, beloved wife of the Late Mr. Clyde Sarasin of Red Deer, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the age of 80 years. Lyla was born Lyla Flora Miller, in Condor, Alberta on September 8, 1921 where her parents homesteaded. She married Mr. Clyde Sarasin in 1945 and moved to Red Deer in 1950. Lyla worked at the Red Deer Hospital for 18 years. She enjoyed writing poetry, crafts and making dolls. Lyla is survived by her three children, son, Dave (Louise) of Red Deer, daughter, Wendy of Innisfail and son, John (Bernadette) of Red Deer, Laura Wallace, who was a good friend and a loving caregiver to her grandma for several years; eight other grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a very dear and special niece, Audrey Rutherford, with whom Lyla shared a very unique bond and mutual devotion. Predeceased by her father, Erastus in 1938, her mother, Alice in 1957, one daughter at birth, and twelve brothers and sisters. Mrs. Irene Schultz of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at the age of 83 years. SCOTT
Pauline Scott of Sylvan Lake, formerly of Lethbridge, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the age of 81 years. Pauline was born in Foremost on October 29, 1920, the daughter of Gottfried (George) and Bertha Bahler. Pauline grew up in the Picture Butte area where her family farmed and she later moved to Lethbridge. Pauline will be forever remembered and missed by her three children, Bunny (Tom), Larry (Char) and Peggy (George); seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother (Eddie); sister-in-laws and nephews. Her parents George and Bertha Bahler and siblings, Doffee, Sam, Roy, John, Fred, Julius and Lena predeceased Pauline. SHARMAN
Edna (Bartram) Sharman, 95, a resident of Warm Beach, Washington, died on Saturday, June 8, 2002. Born on April 5, 1907 in Manitoba, she was adopted at age two by Andrew and Minnie Hicks. They moved to Saskatchewan where she lived on a farm. Part of her childhood was spent in British Columbia and Alberta. In 1928, Edna married Ivor Bartram at Namp, Idaho and she gave birth to two sons, Harold I. Bartram of Eugene, Oregon and Everett L. Bartram of Mount Vernon, Washington. Much of her adult life was spent as a teacher in private and public schools. Her last teaching assignment was in Everett, Washington. In 1977, she married an old friend, Holland Sharman from Red Deer, Alberta. When Holland died in 1984, she sold the farm at Red Deer and moved to Warm Beach, Washington. She was active as a painter, musician and writer until her eyesight gave out several years ago. Survivors include two sons, Harold and Everett Bartram; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two half-brothers, Paul Hicks of Minnesota and Roy Hicks of British Columbia. Memorial services are planned at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.
