Mary Irene Simpkins (nee York) of Red Deer beloved wife of the late Alvin Simpkins (1988), passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, at the Wetaskiwin Health Care Centre, Extended Care on Friday, June 7, 2002 at the age of 78 years. Mary was born at Homeglen, Alberta on April 7, 1925. Mary is survived by her son James Simpkins and his wife Edith and their children, Jordan, Daniel and Kathryn all of LaSalle, Illinois, her brother Edgar York of Ponoka, sister Nellie Heller of Red Deer and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Besides her husband Alvin, she was predeceased by her brothers David and Harry, and sisters Rae, Mae and Hattie. Funeral services will be held will be held from the "67th Street Chapel" of the Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150 - 67th Street, Red Deer, on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. conducted by the Reverend Don Lewis. Mary Rose Sylvester (nee Wendelboe) of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, on May 31, 2002 at the age of 82 years following a courageous battle with failing health. Mary was a loving and caring, kind and generous to her friends and family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mary was always involved with the Waskasoo Towers activities. She is survived by her sisters Eleanor Long of Red Deer, Vivian Shew of Clinton, Iowa; brother, Leon Wendleboe of Fairview and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary Wendleboe, sisters Clara Sparks, Betty Scharf and her brother Ernie Wendleboe. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all her friends and family. A service will be held at a later date at the Elinor Cemetery, Barons, Alberta. Mary Rose Wendlebow Sylvester, the daughter of the late Mary and Michael Wendlebow was born on November 5, 1919 at Barons, Alberta. Our Lord called her to his side on May 31, 2002 at the Red Deer Hospital. Rosemary will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul. Many thanks and appreciation to all the caregivers, especially "We Care" nurses and all the staff and doctors at the Red Deer Hospital. Rosemary worked hard through her life, giving love and empathy to everyone she met. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer conducted by Leanne V. Hall.

Mrs. Delena Marie Szynkaruk of Sundre, Alberta, beloved wife of the Late Mr. Steve Szynkaruk, passed away peacefully at the Sundre Long Term Care Centre on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the age of 92 years. Delena was born in Alvena, Saskatchewan April 6, 1910. She is survived by her loving family; her daughter Regena Love, of Nelson, British Columbia, her son Sylvester and his wife Ruth of Delisle, Saskatchewan, and her son Julius and his wife Ruth (nee Boychuck) of Red Deer. Delena is also survived by twelve grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband, Mr. Joseph Repchinski in 1954, her second husband, Mr. Steve Szynkaruk in 1992, her daughter Rose Marie Neidzielski (nee Repchinski) in 1989; four brothers and two sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family for Prayers at Eventide Funeral Chapels on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Erik Reichers celebrant. Sylvester Richey (Francis Hartman) of Red Deer passed away peacefully surrounded by his friends on Sunday, June 16, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 75. Sylvester was born on July 10, 1926 at Bashaw. He spent most of his early years on the family farm in the Rochefort Bridge area. Sylvester was a caring, friendly man who enjoyed life and faced it with a hearty laugh. He loved the farm and horses and spent many an afternoon talking about the old homestead while enjoying a good cup of coffee in the city. Sylvester will be deeply missed by all of his friends, former caregivers at Michener Services and his extended family at Peregrine Rehabilitation Services. Mr. Curtis Larry Tonneson of Tees, Alberta passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at the age of 79 years. Curtis was born in Chancellor, Alberta on February 16, 1923. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jessie of 52 years; one son Curtis (Lorraine) Tonneson; five daughters, Pam (Art) Randall, Wendy (Glen) Flewelling, Darlene (Dave) Tonneson, Joanne (Doug) Bennett, Susan (Doug) Crawford; seventeen grandchildren, Tammy (Dan), Clint, Coyne (Melanie), JJ, Keith, Tyrel, Tel, Gina, Mandy, Jasmin, Lindy, Josie, Haylie, Britni and Meg; two great grandchildren, Cooper and Colton. He is also remembered by his one brother Glen (Sharlene) Tonneson; one brother-in-law Dave (Vera) Yardley; one sister-in-law Irene (Wes) Cline and numerous nieces and nephews. Curtis was predeceased by his parents Larry (1976), Ruth (1973) Tonneson, numerous aunts and uncles, one cousin Ruby Newman, two nephews Larry Gorrell and George Gorrell and one brother-in-law Leith MacLean. Mrs. Grace Van Assen (nee Zee) late of Edmonton, formerly of Red Deer, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the age of 85 years. She leaves to cherish her memory one son Jacob Edward (Marion) Prins; three grandchildren Glen, Kevin and Rebecca; one great grandchild Jillian; eight Van Assen step children, Bieuwke (Stoffer) VanderVeen, Chris (Joe) DeWind, John (Rita) VanAssen, William (Netty) VanAssen, Eke (Bert) Klos, Johannes (Martha) VanAssen, Ralph (Gretchy) VanAssen, Rinie (Teun) Rispens; twelve Vanden Brink step children and particularly missed by Johanna Wiersma, one brother George (Grace) Zee, seven sisters Winnie (Ralph) Prins, Aafje (John) Kooiman, Ann (Simon) Swier, Tena (Adolf) Opden Dries, Jenny ( Klaas) Brink, Dorothy DeBoon-nee-Zee, Helen Kits-nee-Zee, numerous other relatives and many dear friends.
