Mr. James Murray Abel of Lacombe passed away on November 5, 2002 at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his loving wife Josephine Margaret Abel of Lacombe, 2 sons; John Wesley Abel and Charles Murray Abel both of Lacombe, 2 daughters; Cindy Lou Harink and Bente Lee Newbury both of Lacombe, 4 grandchildren and 1 brother Streart Abel of Calgary. Funeral Services will be held from the Lacombe Church of the Nazarene on Friday, November 8, 2002 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe, AB. AKRE, Christina
Christina Ruth Akre of Red Deer beloved wife of Cecil Akre passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the age of 81 years. Christina was born in Acme, Alberta to George and Ethel Mayes on December 18, 1920 and married Cecil Akre on March 17, 1942. To this marriage they were blessed with daughter Elaine and son Lorne, completing the family. Besides her loving husband Cecil, Christina leaves to mourn her daughter Elaine (Ray) Gabert of Lacombe, AB. and her son Lorne (Rachel) Akre of Sedgewick, AB.; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also her sister Betty McMillan and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Ethel and father George and by five sisters. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of the Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150 - 67TH Street, Red Deer, on Monday, November 18, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. conducted by the Reverend Glen Boyce. Kelly Lee Anderson of Bentley and Lacombe passed away November 4, 2002 at the age of 27 years. He was born in Bentley, AB, October 2, 1975. He is survived by his parents, Stan and Jeanie Anderson; brother, Gordy Anderson; sister, Juanita (Barry) Woods; nephews and niece, Chad, Justin and Brittany Woods; grandmother, Mrs. Julia Anderson of Bentley, AB; his best friend and fiancee, Tara Ehrmann of Lacombe, AB. He was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Allan in 1973. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Mrs. Stina Alvina Anderson of Bentley, AB, passed away at the Bentley Care Centre on November 22, 2002 at the age of 92 years. She was born on the family farm on October 26, 1910 to Oscar and Molly Vig, Stina married Frank Papp in 1927 at a young age. They had three children, Floyd Anderson, Ramona (Ed) Langmuir. Later she married Wilfred Anderson and raised three more children. Lawrence (Charlotte) Anderson, Loraine (Bill) Stevenson and Jim (Lee) Anderson. She is also survived by one brother Gordon (Alnona) Vig, two sisters Peggy (Norm) Thompson and Ann (Gordon) Barker. Stina had sixteen grandchildren, thirty four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Stina was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, one daughter Audrey, one brother Clifford and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church, Bentley, AB on Tuesday November 26, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Betty Piwowar officiating. Interment will follow in the Vig Cemetery. BISWANGER
Lawrence James Biswanger, beloved husband of Marie for 63 years, passed away peacefully at Red Deer Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 31 at the age of 87. He was the loving father of Lorraine (Bill) Houston of Eckville; Larry (Aggy) Biswanger of Freeport, Bahamas; Fern (Ken) Bradshaw of Eckville; and Muriel (Hector) Guzman of San Louis Potasi, Mexico. He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers: Myrtle Stewart of Rocky Mountain House; Kit (Ed) Lightbown of Sylvan Lake; Eve (Ernie) Johnson of Red Deer; Wynne (Evelyn) Biswanger; and Verne (Jean) Biswanger, both of Calgary. He also leaves to mourn ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Lawrence was predeceased by two sisters, Elsie Belich and Marjorie Wickens, and his grandson, Scott Houston. Lawrence was born at Red Deer on June 29, 1915 to Steven and Annetta Biswanger. The family moved to the Bingley district in 1926. He attended school there, then worked in sawmills in various locations around Alberta. In 1939 he married Marie Evans, began farming on Biswanger Hill in 1940, and resided there until his passing. He was involved in many activities including road construction, carpentry, sawmilling, school bus operating, hunting, traveling, and farming. He will be forever remembered in our hearts for his strong faith in God and his love of family. A special and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of the Red Deer Regional Hospital and to Dr. K. Jim. Funeral services will be held at the Leslieville Community Center on Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m., Pastor Brian Allan officiating, interment to follow in Leslieville Cemetery. BOICE It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Olive Boice of Lacombe at the Bashaw Health Center on November 16, 2002. Olive was born on the family farm in the Lloyd's Hill District north of Consort on August 19, 1924. She married Jiggs Boice on October 27, 1947 and together spent 25 years on the family farm in the Lakeside District before moving into Lacombe in 1970. Olive worked at the hospital and nursing home before her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband in 1992 and is survived by her 4 children; Linda (Dave) Garstad, Brian, Betty (Del) Selin, Al (Joan), 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons and a host of family and friends. BUIT
Jean Buit, child of the Lord, died peacefully with her family at her side on November 19, 2002 in the Red Deer Regional Hospital, at the age of 72 years. Through God's strength, she faced the challenge of cancer with dignity and courage. Jean was born February 11, 1930 in Lacombe. She attended grade school in the Aspelund district and high school in Lacombe. After marrying the love of her life, John, on April 18, 1951, they farmed and raised their family west of Blackfalds in the blindman Valley. She was a devoted farm wife and loved to have her home filled with the noise and laughter of her family and friends. Her children and grandchildren will remember games around the kitchen table, interesting gifts and colourful afghans, and her loving encouragement in all their activities. Jean was active in her church, community, Women of Unifarm and Tops. She held a special place in her heart for her Gems secret pals, the Birthday Club, and various missionaries that she supported. Her gifts of compassion and hospitality touched many lives. Mom will be deeply missed but she leaves a legacy of faith in God and family ties that cannot be broken. Jean leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 51 years, John, 6 children; Sharyn & Bob Lodewyk, Harvey & Dorothy Buit, Marvin & Marianne Buit, Lawrence & Monica Buit, Judith & Herb Grutterink, Russ & Judi Buit, 22 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 sister Betty & George Weenink, 2 brothers Eb & Femmie Ten Hove and Dick & Erlyce Ten Hove, a sister-in-law Annie & Pete Humting, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her son Walter (1972) and her parents Harm Jan (1976) and Jelske (1989) Ten Hove. The care given and kindness shown by Jean's doctors and nursing staff on Unit #22% was so wonderful. Thank you!
