Mr. Brian Edmund Burling of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Richard Parsons Auxiliary Hospital, Red Deer on Monday, November 11, 2002 at the age of 85 years. Brian was born the youngest of three children, on July 29, 1917 at Kuroki, Saskatchewan to Eugene and Margaret Burling. He was raised and took his schooling in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. In 1935, he went to Flin Flon, Manitoba and worked for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company. Brian joined the Army in September 1939 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan, in the Second Light Anti-Aircraft Battery and went overseas in the summer of 1940. He spent five years overseas with time served in Britain, Sicily and Italy. Brian was honourably discharged in July of 1945 and returned back and worked for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company in Flin Flon, Manitoba for thirty-two years. In September 1945, Brian married Marion Brown of Regina, Saskatchewan, to which union one son, Brian Wayne was born. Brian retired from the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company in July of 1977 and moved with his wife to Red Deer, where he resided until his passing. Brian leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Marion, and one son, Wayne and his wife, Lorrie, all of Red Deer. Brian was predeceased by both his parents and two brothers, Jack and Bob. BUTCHER
Mr. Albert Edward (Fidge) Butcher of Lacombe passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17th, 2002 at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 89 years. Albert was born November 15, 1913 in Lacombe, AB. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Lacombe, attending West Branch School leaving early to help on the farm. Albert worked in the Leduc oilfield on the drilling rigs when Leduc #1 well struck oil. He also obtained his steam engineering ticket. He had a great love for engines becoming a very good mechanic. During the 1960's and early 70's Albert worked for Salmon Construction Ltd. as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. Albert had a wonderful passion for horses from a childhood boy until his passing. He resided on his farm near Alix moving to Lacombe in 1999. He leaves to mourn his sister Olive Jones of Edmonton, brothers James of Lacombe and William of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents Lourie & Byron Butcher, two brothers Roy and Frank, brother-in-law Phil Jones, nephew Darryl Jones. Funeral services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel, Lacombe on Friday, November 22, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery. Stanley Franklin Clausen passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, November 4, 2002 at the age of 70 years. Stan was born in Edmonton, Alberta on January 5, 1932 and moved to Red Deer at the age of three. Stan was a man who loved nature walks and music. His favorite pastime was listening to his two birds and nature music. We will always remember him clapping and swaying to his favorite songs. Stan will be greatly missed by his friends and caregivers at Michener Services and Peregrine Rehabilitation Services. COOPER, Charles
Forty-two year resident of the Lacombe area, Charles Cooper, passed away at the age of 91 on November 12, 2002 at the Lacombe Community Hospital. Charles was born in Wainwright, AB on July 17, 1911. He and his family moved to the Lacombe area in 1960 in order for the five children to have access to Christian education at Canadian Union College (now Canadian University College) at College Heights. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Violet; two daughters: Karen (and Brian) Hawes of Lacombe, Alberta and Kathy (and Lee) Patterson of Williams Lake, BC; three sons: Stan (and Connie) of Delta, BC, Lowell (and Rae Lee) of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Des (and Trudi) of Lacombe, Alberta. Nine grandchildren: Tricia Cooper of Lacombe, Tracy Naito of Calgary, Greg Cooper of Richmond, BC, Jondell Roy of Grand Terrace, California, Todd Cooper of Grand Terrace, California, Shannon Cooper of Delta, BC, Lindsey Patzer of Calgary, Regan Hawes of Camrose, and Preston Hawes of Takoma Park, Maryland; two great grandchildren: Cali Newsom and Damian Naito of Calgary; and a long line of treasured friends and acquaintances. Earl Elvin Cornelssen passed away Sunday, November 3, 2002 at the Stettler Health Care Centre at the age of 81 years. Earl fought a courageous battle with cancer. Earl was born May 2, 1921 to Otto and Inez Cornelssen at Erskine, Alberta and lived most of his life in the Erskine and Alix areas. He married Irma Louise Cadwell, November 25, 1941. Earl is survived by his loving wife of nearly 61 years; his six sons and three daughters, Lee and Ethel Cornelssen of Red Deer, AB; Bob and Elaine Cornelssen of Consort, AB, Larry and Frieda Cornelssen of Red Deer, AB, Carl and Gerry Cornelssen of Stony Plain, AB. Walter and Nancey-Ann Cornelssen of Leduc, AB, Fred and Patti Cornelssen of Red Deer, AB, Betty and Neil Volker of Erskine, AB, Irene and Bob Zimmerman of Drayton Valley, AB and Marjorie Cornelssen and Bill Butler of Fort McMurray, AB; twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Ken and Jo Cornelssen of Airdrie, AB, Pete and Joan Cornelssen of Stettler, AB, and Yvonne Howard of Red Deer, AB; numerous other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. DAVIES James (Jim) Frederick
1934-2002
It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of my husband, our dad, Grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, who left us peacefully on November 16, 2002. Jim spent the majority of his years in the Red Deer area where he raised his family and worked in the oil and gas industry. He was a very giving man who was active in his community and was always willing to lend a hand when it was needed. In 1997 he and his wife relocated to Calgary to be closer to their family. He will be profoundly missed by his loving wife of forty years, Clara, his daughter Brenda (Brian), his son Byron (Dawna), his five grandchildren, sister Eunice Maris, and his brother Charlie (Barb). James (Jim) Duane Davis passed away Saturday at Foothills Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rimbey, AB. May 1, 1951. He is remembered by his loving wife Judy, three children, Leanne, Andrew and Emily, mother Jean Davis, sister Judy (Ray) Stewart, brothers Robert, John (Lynn) and Doug and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Bob, May 1, 1970. He attended school in Rimbey and received his mechanics license in 1973. He operated service stations in Edmonton and Ponoka and at the time of his passing he resided in Calgary where he was employed as a shop manager for Datum Exploration for the past 15 years. His second great love was auto racing, his courteous behavior on the race track earned him the title "Gentleman Jim". He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and family ski trips. He leaves a large void and will be missed. Prayers and service were held in Calgary. If friends desire a donation may be sent to Tom Baker Cancer Center, Calgary.
