Mr. Colin Durk, beloved husband of Mrs. Dianna Durk of Irvine, Alberta, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2003 at the age of 46 years. Colin also leaves to cherish his memory; two sons, Travis Bolton and Colin Cook; three daughters, Rhonda (Dennis) Bailey, Tina Durk, and Barbara Mymko-Durk; five grandchildren, Rylie Stephens; Derek, Morgan and Chris Bailey, and Alexis Cook-Hubber; his mother, Dorothy Durk; and one sister, Carolynne Powell. Colin was predeceased by his father, Ernie Durk. Colin was born on February 23, 1956 in Wetaskiwin. In 1992, he moved to Medicine Hat. Many will remember Colin as a cowboy-biker. The Funeral Service will be held in Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, #1 Dunsmore Road, S.E. Medicine Hat, on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend David Francis Wigley, officiating. Interment will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2003 in the Family Plot at Gibbons Cemetery. FIDLER, Gladys
Mrs. Gladys Irene Fidler of Red Deer beloved wife of Lyle, born January 30, 1915 passed away after a brief illness at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the age of 88 years. She is survived by her husband, Lyle; 4 children, Alberta (Jim) Dickson, Keith Hall, Mona (Walter) Giesbrecht & Douglas Hall; 13 grandchildren, Sharyn (Wayne) Terpsma, Bruce (Judy) Dickson, Brenda (Dick) Feser, Laurel Dean (Glen) Winchester, Kerrilee England, Susan (Barron) Reichert, Brian (Theresa) Dickson, Chris (Grace) Hall, Steven Hall, Debbie Hall, Dean (Hiedi) Giesbrecht, Kathryn (Kevin) Manning, and Kimberley Yves; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gladys is also survived by one sister, LaVerne (Tom) LaPointe. She was predeceased by her father, Peter Schwarzhoff; her mother, Inga Schwarzhoff; her first husband, Reginald Hall; son Dean Hall; grandson, David Dickson; great-grandson, Joel Terpsma; sister, Mamie Ailsby; 2 brothers, Leonard Schwarzhoff and Dale Schwarzhoff. Gladys was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35 Ladies Auxiliary; and a member of the Moose Lodge. She worked at Alpha Dairies, CKRD Radio Station, the Red Deer Advocate and Red Deer Motors. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation. FITCH, Aural
Born Olive Aural Rick at Claresholm, Alberta, September 15, 1912 to Charles and Alice Rick. Aural was born the 8th of 9 children deceased February 4, 2003 at the age of 90 years. She married Russel Fitch in 1938. They farmed in the Centreville district and resided there until her passing. Aural loved to be surrounded by family and friends. Her faith was a great strength to her. Her motto was "Earth hath no sorrow that heaven cannot heal". Aural was predeceased by her husband Russel in September 1995 and by her son Raymond in 1956. She is survived by her children: Amy Shafer, Leo (Gladys) Fitch, Mervin (Evelyn) Fitch, Paul Fitch, Herbert Fitch and Alberta (Don) Urlacher. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, numerous step grand-children, step great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and by one brother-in-law Archie Bruce. A Funeral Service will be held at the Sylvan Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4607 - 47th Ave. on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Burnt Lake Cemetery. HAMILTON, Donald
Donald Walter Hamilton of Red Deer and Leslieville, Alberta went to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 6, 2003 at the Red Deer hospital at the age of 77 years. Don was born and raised in Daysland, Alberta and farmed there until 1966. There he met Helen and they were married in 1952. In 1966 they moved to Red Deer and Don went to work for Flint Engineering and Delsing Construction. In 1970 Don and Helen bought the Sandcastle Restaurant in Sylvan Lake which they ran until 1976. They sold the restaurant and moved to Leslieville. Don went to work for the R.C.M.P. in Rocky Mountain House in the guard room. Don went back to work for Flint Engineering in Rocky Mountain House until his retirement in 1990. In March of 2000, Don and Helen moved to Red Deer. Don loved hunting, gardening, visiting, spending time in his work shed and always enjoyed watching a good hockey game. He revelled in spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could usually be found in the company of one of the many dogs or cats that were ever present in their home. If there were someone in need of help for one reason or another, Don and Helen could be counted on to be there when the time came. He will be remembered for his quick wit, honest opinions and that ever present smile. He touched the lives of many and the hearts of all who knew him. Don leaves to mourn him, his loving wife of 50 years Helen, four sons, Ron (Sandra) of Red Deer, Les (Kathy) of Red Deer, Gary (Carol) of Rocky Mountain House, Keith (Sandee) of Bonnyville and one daughter Alison Orange (Ian) of Calmar, 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held for Don at the Bethel Union Church in Leslieville, Alberta on Tuesday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. Luncheon to follow. HEMPHILL
Mary "Esther" Hemphill of Bentley, Alberta, passed away on February 9, 2003 at the Bentley Care Centre at the age of 96. Esther was born on August 3, 1906 on the family homestead at Ranfurly, Alberta to Joseph and Mary Esther Carr, their first Canadian and fifth child of seven children. Her parents immigrated from Terre Haute, Indiana, U.S.A. with four children to Ranfurly in 1905 to join Mary's parents, James and Harriet Thompson. After she married Wallace Hemphill in 1926, they lived at Lavoy, Alberta where their six children were born; one son and five daughters. In 1947 they moved to Rimbey, Alberta and lived in the Monte Vista District. Esther devoted her life to her family and was active in the Rimbey United Church Group 2 of the U.C.W. Monte Vista Quilting Group, and the Wooddale Women's Institute. After her family had finished school, she worked at Wilton's Store in Rimbey. In 1959 they moved to a farm in the Bentley district. Esther was a member of the Bentley U.C.W. and is a life member of the Royal Purple. She worked in the Bentley Valley Store for several years. Esther is survived by one son, Joseph (Stella) of Evansburg; five daughters, Marion (Elmer) Hahn of Bentley, Ruth Johnston of Edmonton, Grace Newman of Calgary, Alice (David) Morris of Cochrane and Joan McManus of Calgary; 21 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her husband Wallace, October 21, 1993; and her son-in-law Dale McManus, December 24, 1995. Also by her parents, three sisters and three brothers. Funeral Service will be held from Bentley United Church, Bentley, Alberta on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Franklin Lough officiating. Surrounded by family Annie Elizabeth Hollman passed away peacefully in the Red Deer Regional Hospital February 21, 2003 at the age of 82 years. She was born January 21, 1921 at Macklin, Saskatchewan. Annie was predeceased by her parents Wendlin and Helen Reinbold, two brothers, Pius and John and an infant sister Elizabeth. She is survived by her loving husband Pete of 61 years. and five children; Vi (Bill) Moore, Jim (Sharon) Hollman, Ken (Sharon) Hollman, Shirley (George) Gaetz, all from the Red Deer area and Helen (Terry) Ruttan of Innisfail, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, and two brothers Peter and Leo. She will be remembered by her family, relatives and a host of great friends. HUNT, KENNETH R.
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my friend and husband Kenneth on February 6, 2003. Ken was born in Montreal, Quebec on March 5, 1920. He served in the R.C.A.F. overseas and upon returning to Canada worked for telephone companies for the next forty years until his retirement. Ken loved gardening and traveling. He will be sadly missed by many friends that he has made in Olds over the years. Ken is survived by his wife Mary and two brothers, Harvey and David. At Ken's request there will be no formal service held.
