It is with great sadness that the family of Hazel Blanche Inglis (nee Pye) announce her passing on Monday, February 3, 2003 at the age of 97 years. She leaves to grieve her passing, her daughter Barb (Jim) Giesbrecht of Red Deer, two daughters-in-law, Iris Inglis of Red Deer and Shirley Inglis of Leduc. Also her grandchildren: Donna (Ron) Polutnik of Red Deer, Bonnie (Brent) Hemstreet of Red Deer, Brenda (Wil) Stork of Leduc, Sheila (Brent) Hutzul of Millet, Dennis (Jodi) Inglis of Okotoks, Barry (Sheri) of Leduc, Laurie (Brian) Jansen of Ponoka and Terry Giesbrecht of Red Deer, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by one sister, Mabel Wright, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Walter on May 12, 1963, by her son Donald on March 12, 2001 and her son Dennis on July 18, 2002, as well as two sisters and three brothers. Hazel was born December 13, 1905 to Samuel and Virginia Pye. She married Walter on March 3, 1931. They farmed in Antler Hill District before moving to Didsbury in 1951. They moved to Innisfail in 1957, where she did alterations for Berchts store and later a seamstress in her own home. She was very involved in the Innisfail United Church and received her lifetime membership. She loved gardening. Family and friends were very important to her. She always had the teapot on for them. She lived in her own home until March of 1994, when she moved to Autumn Glen Lodge and later to the Rosefield Center. Funeral service for the late Mrs. Hazel Inglis will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Innisfail United Church, 4720 - 48th Street, Innisfail with Reverend Margaret Lange officiating and interment at the Horn Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Sadie Innes, of Airdrie, Alberta passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at the age of 84 years. Sadie was born on June 11, 1918 at Raven, Alberta. Sadie was a lovely person who always had a kind and caring heart. The word stranger was not part of her vocabulary. She devoted her entire life to giving and helping others. Sadie also loved making crafts and that was just another talent and gift she was able to share with people. Many a home has one of her handcrafted stars hanging in a corner from the ceiling and as well, there are numerous little babies who have been fortunate to snuggle up tight and warm under one of her hand made quilts. Sadie's love and generosity will always be remembered by her loving family and the many others whose lives she touched. Sadie is survived by her daughter, Darlene and her husband, Dan of Calgary, Alberta, two granddaughters, Debbie and Diane, three grandsons, Darren, Kendall and Jay and the light of her life, great granddaughter, Jennifer. She also leaves behind three very dear and close friends, Irene Pohl, Fran Wills and Doreen Stevenson, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sadie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lloyd on November 1, 1962. IRVING, Anna
Mrs. Anna Irving passed away at the Valley Park Manor, Red Deer, Alberta, on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the age of 93 years. Anna was born on February 6, 1910 at Winkler, Manitoba to Aaron and Marguretha ( Fehr) Peters. She was the seventh in a family of ten children, predeceased by her parents and all her siblings. Anna came to Alberta in 1936 to attend Alberta Bible Institute (presently Gardner College). She met and married A.F. (Bert) Irving in 1940. Anna served alongside Bert in Pastoral Ministry Churches in Alberta and British Columbia until her retirement in 1982, when Anna and Bert moved to the Red Deer area, where she resided until her passing. Anna was involved in the Ministry, Sunday School, Children's and Youth Camps and Ladies Bible Study Groups. She was also involved in the Women's Missionary Society, (WCG) in the local and district levels. Anna is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bert Irving, two sons, Robert and his wife, Doreen and their family, of Red Deer, and Dennis Margaret and their family of Sherwood Park, Alberta. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends that Anna made over her years in the ministry. Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Anna Irving will be held at the Balmoral Bible Chapel, North Side of Highway 11 East, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend Donnalynn Froese officiating. Mrs. Gladys Irene Fidler of Red Deer beloved wife of Lyle, born January 30, 1915 passed away after a brief illness at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the age of 88 years. She is survived by her husband, Lyle; 4 children, Alberta (Jim) Dickson, Keith Hall, Mona (Walter) Giesbrecht & Douglas Hall; 13 grandchildren, Sharyn (Wayne) Terpsma, Bruce (Judy) Dickson, Brenda (Dick) Feser, Laurel Dean (Glen) Winchester, Kerrilee England, Susan (Barron) Reichert, Brian (Theresa) Dickson, Chris (Grace) Hall, Steven Hall, Debbie Hall, Dean (Hiedi) Giesbrecht, Kathryn (Kevin) Manning, and Kimberley Yves; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gladys is also survived by one sister, LaVerne (Tom) LaPointe. She was predeceased by her father, Peter Schwarzhoff; her mother, Inga Schwarzhoff; her first husband, Reginald Hall; son Dean Hall; grandson, David Dickson; great-grandson, Joel Terpsma; sister, Mamie Ailsby; 2 brothers, Leonard Schwarzhoff and Dale Schwarzhoff. Gladys was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35 Ladies Auxiliary; and a member of the Moose Lodge. She worked at Alpha Dairies, CKRD Radio Station, the Red Deer Advocate and Red Deer Motors. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation. KEEGAN Martha Amanda (Sjurdal)
Born January 31, 1921 in Bergen, Norway, passed away February 7, 2003. She is survived by two daughters, Judi Stevenson, Victoria and Ann-Marie St. Laurent (Gerry), North Vancouver, three granddaughters, her sister, Helen Farnell, Ladner and a close family of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Aasta, Gerda and Arne. Martha came to Canada, grew up in Red Deer and lived for many years in Vancouver before moving to bases in Canada and Europe with husband, George. Martha retired in Victoria.
KENNEDY, Neil
1948 - 2003
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Neil Lachlan Kennedy on February 9th, 2003. Neil passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice where he ended a courageous battle with brain cancer. Throughout his 3 and 1/2 month illness his display of remarkable strength and patience was a comfort to the many friends and family who sat at his bedside. Neil will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marilyn, children Mathew, Lindsay and Jeffrey, brother Craig (Marlynn), nieces Christy and Cathy, special cousin Jerry (Leona), Aunt Heather and seven cousins. He was predeceased by his mother in 1982 and father in 2001. Neil was born in Red Deer on November 18th, 1948 and moved to Calgary in his early twenties where he worked primarily in the oil and gas industry but always had many diversified business interests. He was an avid sportsman and shared his gift of teaching hockey and golf with kids, whether they were 6 or 86. Everyone who knew Neil benefited from his enthusiasm, positive outlook and entrepreneurial spirit. He touched many lives and memories of him will be cherished always. Neil was a member of the Willow Park Golf & Country Club and weekend trips to Fairmont, B.C. were among his favorite pastimes. A memorial service will be held at Deer Park United Church 77 Deerpoint RD. S.E. Dorothy King (Gough). Dot passed away February 4, 2003 at Renfrew, Ontario at the age of 73. She was born June 18, 1930 in Toronto, Ontario. Mom is lovingly remembered by her children, Bob and Brenda King, Sue Garron, Debbie and Ray Couterier, Grant and Jeannette King, Sandy Boisvert, Guy and Debbie King, Kevin and Donna King; 26 grandchildren, 30 great great grandchildren. Dorothy and Robert married December 2, 1948 in Toronto. They lived in Petawawa, Bordin, Lair Germany & CFB Penhold (71-75) The family moved to Red Deer in 1976. Dot always loved telling a good joke or playing bingo. Dorothy was predeceased by her mother, January 7, 1982; her husband, Robert November 30, 1983; her daughter, Beverly, April 18, 1992; father (Grampa Gough) known by many in Mustang Acres, Feb. 8, 1999. A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be announced at a later date in the paper in early March.
LAM, Lau Fun
On January 30, 2003, Mrs. Lau Fun Lam of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the age of 91 years. Left to cherish her memory are her five loving children: Lynn (Poy) Mah of Edmonton, Shirley Lee of Edmonton, Victor (Amelia) Lem of San Francisco, Sylvia (Ken) Mah of Portland and Jeff (Geni) Lem of Red Deer. Mrs. Lam also leaves eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Lam Sui Wing. Affectionately known as "PoPo" Lau Fun came to Canada from Hong Kong in 1966 and resided in Edmonton for 27 years and the last 10 years in Red Deer. She will be remembered for her love of family, friends, people, cooking and her garden. She touched everyone in her special way with her laughter, generosity and unconditional love. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2003, 1:30 p.m. at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, in the Wild Rose Chapel, with Reverend Joseph Mung, officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Beechmount Cemetery.
