John Rieberger passed away at the Innisfail Health Care Centre on February 15, 2003 at the age of 82 years. John was born February 9, 1921 near Holdfast, Saskatchewan. John is survived by Agnes, his wife of 56 years, his seven children Heather (Larry) Verbitsky of Innisfail, Michael (Linda) of Bowden, Roberta MacFadyen of Innisfail, Rosalynne (Ron) King of Innisfail, Patrick of Chilliwack, B.C., Danny (Wendy) of Innisfail and Edward (Debbie) of Innisfail, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers, one sister, eight sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law plus numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, five sisters, one brother, six brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be held at the Innisfail Branch #104 Royal Canadian Legion, 5108-49 Street, Innisfail on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to Innisfail Rosefield Centre Cognitive Care Unit. Mr. Alex Rose of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer, on Friday, February 14, 2003 at the age of 78 years. Alex is survived by his daughter, Janet Rose of Red Deer and a niece, Susan O'Neill of London, England. He was predeceased by his wife, Cathy in 1994. Violet Sjoblom passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital on February 23, 2003. Violet was born May 22, 1926 at Benalto, Alberta. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Bruno, married 53 years; son George in Finland, granddaughter Heli (Bill) and great grandson William in Nanaimo, grandson Henri, daughter-in-law Marje, sister Alice in Finland, and many other relatives and friends in Finland, Estonia, Alberta, New Zealand, Richmond and Nanaimo. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and loyal friend to all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at 12:00 p.m. at Finnish Bethel Church, Vancouver, B.C. Donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Society in memory of Violet.

Chester E. Soderberg, beloved husband of Willa Soderberg of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Monday, February 3, 2003 at the age of 74 years. Besides his loving wife, Chester is survived by his children, Cindy and Tom O'Connor and their children Jocelyn and Alan, of Red Deer, and Shelley Bachman and her children, Kristin and Tim, of Calgary. SPRING, Venla
Venla Regina Spring (nee Holmstrom) of Red Deer passed away quietly at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Mary Holmstrom, brothers Wayne and Arnie and her partner William Spring. She is survived by her brother Sulo of Outlook, SK, loving family of daughter Shirley Craig of Victoria, BC, son Ken (Arline) of New Westminster, BC and granddaughter Cheryl Craig and partner Glenn Pawluk of Vulcan, AB. Venla is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. She was well loved and will be missed by all who knew her. STANIFORTH
Alwilda Staniforth passed away at the Dr. Richard Parsons Care Centre on February 5, 2003 at the age of 98 years. Alwilda Aulean Staniforth was born May 3, 1904 at King City, Ontario, the daughter of Harvey and Lottie Wells. She was brought up on the family farm along with one sister and three brothers. In 1928 the family moved to Alsask, Saskatchewan while Alwilda found employment at the Club Cafe in Calgary. Later she returned to Plenty, Saskatchewan. In 1935 her mother Lottie and brothers Langton, Lloyd and Howard came to the Island Ranch at Evarts. Alwilda arrived at the Ranch later. She and Lorraine Gerke left for Vancouver to a Hair Dressing School. She later returned to Evarts and met John Staniforth. They were married March 29, 1939 and she became a farm wife, living just west of Evarts along the river. Farming was put on hold as John joined the Navy and was sent to St. Hyacinth, Quebec. He was sent to Victoria where Alwilda worked at an Aircraft Plant. After the war they returned to the farm. She was a great community person and was instrumental in starting the Royal Purple in Benalto. She was one of the founding members of the Evarts Community Club and collect-ed for the Red Cross and Cancer Society for years. She had a great love for flowers and her yard showed it. They were great travelers and loved cruises up the coast to Alaska. She moved to the Sylvan Lake Lodge in 1994 and she later moved to the Auxiliary in 1999. Alwilda is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The Service of Remembrance for the late Alwilda Staniforth will be held from the Sylvan Lake Memorial Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium. Mr. Hugh Stewart late of Fort Assiniboine, AB, formerly of Swan Hills, AB., passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the age of 65 years. He is survived by his companion and best friend Marie Strauss of Fort Assiniboine, two brothers George (Carol) and Bobby; one sister, Myrtle (Roy) as well as other family and dear friends. STINSON, Alyssa
Miss Alyssa Jean Stinson received her Angel Wings on February 19, 2003 to be with the Lord. Alyssa passed away at home after 10 years of suffering from a brain injury at the age of one month. Left to cherish her treasured memory is her sweet mommy, Brenda Gulick and her husband, Jim, her sweet sister, Chyanne, her Oma, Jean Stinson, her Uncle Sean, loving Grandparents, Sandy and Orval Isaac and her great uncle and aunt, Willem and Erna Wensvoort. Alyssa also leaves to mourn many other family members, great grandparents, great aunts and uncles, cousins and many special friends. Alyssa was born July 17, 1992 in Grande Prairie, Alberta and suffered a brain injury at one month of age, which left her severely handicapped and medically fragile. Alyssa lived her life to the fullest and touched many hearts along the way in her short life. Many specialists at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, University of Alberta Hospital and the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, touched her life in a special way with gentleness and care. Their compassion and expertise ensured her comfort and quality of life. Doctors, teachers of Parkland School and support staff, daycare staff, practitioners and service providers loved the special glow in her big brown eyes when she came to visit. Many friends adored her and saw how she fought to keep up with activities she loved. Alyssa's church friends enjoyed her bursts of laughter during services. Special thanks to local doctors and nurses who admired her strength and spirit, they were always there for her. A visitation for family, friends and children will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday, February 23, 2003 between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. A Celebration of Alyssa's Life will be held at the Salvation Army, 4837 - 54th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, February 24, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Captains Colin and Maureen Bain officiating. Interment will follow at Alto-Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta.
