Mrs. Gertrude Suggett passed away February 22, 2003 at the Ponoka General Hospital at the age of 94 years. Gertrude was born Marguerita Gertrude Jane Scoular to Margaret and Jim Scoular at Oakbank, Manitoba. In 1914 the Scoular family returned to Scotland when Gertie's dad enlisted in the Canadian Army Farrier Core for W.W.1. In 1919 the family returned to farm west of Bentley. On July 4, 1927, Gertie married Cecil Suggett to farm north of Bentley. They had a family of six, including a set of twins. Gertie enjoyed gardening, church and family sports. However, music was an important part of her life where she sang in the United Church Choir and other Bentley events. She played in the Bentley Brass Band, and the Bentley Kitchen Band. Gertie was a charter member of the Outlet Get-to-gether Club and enjoyed many years in it. She also joined the Order of the Eastern Star and took an active part for many years in Alexander #4, Lacombe. For 10 years Gertie and Cecil enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona, always returning home to the Bentley area. After her husband's passing, Gertie moved to the Lacombe Senior Lodge, until recently moving to the Northcott Care Center in Ponoka. Gertie is survived by her three sons: Irvine (Bernice) Suggett of Bentley, Dean (Donna) Suggett of Edmonton, and Barry Suggett of Edmonton, two daughters; Margaret (Garth) Doepel of Edmonton and Kathleen (Verne) Wiese of Alix, 18 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband Cecil, her brother Osborne, sister-in-law Leona Woyen all in 1992, her youngest daughter Barbara in 1996, her sister-in-law Lyla Scoular in 2001, her Mum in 1965, her Dad in 1975, also by her daughter-in-law Peggy Suggett, her brother-in-law Bill Woyen and niece Carol Doepel. Funeral Services will be held from the Bentley United Church, Bentley, Alberta on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow in the Bentley Cemetery. TRAUTMAN
Dolores Frances Trautman passed away peacefully at St. James Cottage Hospice in Vancouver, BC on December 15, 2002 at the age of 69. She was born in Strongfield, SK on Feb. 10, 1933. She worked in the Royal Bank in Hawarden, later Victoria, then transferred to Vancouver in 1960. She worked for the Federal Government of Canada from 1973 to 1991 when she retired, and did extensive traveling. Dolores leaves to mourn her sisters Josie (Peter) Liska, Jennie (Joe) Psikla of Red Deer, her brothers Ed (Lillian) of Saskatoon, SK, Frank (Carol) of Lacombe, AB, Carl (Marion) of Red Deer and numerous nieces and nephews, and her many friends. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Trautman. A Celebration of Dolores's life was held at the First Memorial Funeral Home and Crematorium in Vancouver, BC on December 21, 2002 with Fr. Michael Sabara officiating. Graveside Services will be held at the Alto Reste Cemetery in Red Deer at a later date.
VOOYS
Arie William (Bud) Vooys of Quesnel, B.C. passed away on December 21, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Kelowna General Hospital. Bud was born at Mossleigh, AB. on January 7, 1935. He lived and worked in central Alberta until 1968 at which time he and his family moved to Aldergrove, B.C. where he was employed as a long-haul driver until his retirement in 1990. At this time he moved to an acreage near Puntchesakut Lake, B.C. where he always enjoyed a game of cribbage, camping and fishing. Bud is survived by his wife Mildred; daughters, Debbie, Diane (Serge) and Dorothy (Steve) Aylen; six grandchildren; sisters, Helen (Don) Williams, Louise (Bill) Dennis, Pauline (Roy) Reaney, Donna (Gerald) Pierson; brother Victor (Ruth); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Dorothy in 1945, parents and grandparents. Cremation entrusted to Claytons Funeral Directors Ltd., Quesnel, B.C. The family is honoring Bud's wishes and no service is planned. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
WALKER, Glen
Glen Walker of Innisfail, formerly of the Markerville area, passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 8, 2003 at the age of 76 years. Glen is survived by Dorothy his loving wife of 52 years. He also leaves his children; Leonard Walker and special friend, Wendy Williams of Red Water, Rena and Brian Waite of Dovercourt, Deb and Norm Allen of Innisfail, Jaye and Greg Hillman of Evarts area and Ken and Linda Walker of Valleyview. He was the proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren and was predeceased by a grand-daughter in 1992 and an infant great grandson in 1998. Funeral services will be held at INNISFAIL UNITED CHURCH, 4720-48 Ave. on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13th @ 2 P.M. with Pastor Peter Van Katwyk officiating. Mrs. Mary Louise Weatherill of Stettler, formerly of Tees, passed away in the Stettler Health Care Centre on February 17, 2003 at the age of 85 years. Predeceased by her husband Wilfrid in 1981; one son Gordon; one grand-daughter Janice; three brothers and one sister; Mary is survived by her loving family of two daughters, Marlene (Ralph) Perry of Ponoka, Malora (Roger) Lee of Stettler; three sons, Clair (Jeanette) of Wainwright, Bill of Bashaw (Diane of Nelson, B.C.) and Reg (Pat) of Tees; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Weatherill of Lacombe, Valerie Lund of Penticton, B.C. and Mary Cooper of Stony Plain, AB. WILSON, Daniel Harold
It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Dan on Monday, February 3, 2003 at the age of 48. Dan was born in Vermillion, Alberta on November 27, 1954 to Harold Carlton and Naomi Ruth Wilson and completed his junior and senior high schooling in Edson, Alberta following the death of his father. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah D.L. Wilson; brother, Paul (Carmen) Wilson, half brothers, Franklin (Irene) Wilson, Carlton Wilson, all of Calgary; half sisters, Edith Sarin of Edson, Dorothy (Harold) Larsen; Dollye (Basil) Cooper of Grimshaw; Gladys (Charles) Stanley of Niles, MI, USA; a son Shane (Ronda) VanderKooi of Edson; daughter Sheena (friend, Nathan) VanderKooi of Edson; father and mother-in-law Al and Joyce Hallgren of Eckville, step-daughter Shannon (Jason) Sherriffs of Cremona, step-son Jamie (friend, Tasha) French, of Edmonton; sisters-in-law Donna (Harry) Thomas, Ruth Wilson; brothers-in-law Darrell (Jacqueline) Hallgren, Kelly Hallgren, sister-in-law Sandra Hallgren, Allen (Salina) Hallgren, all of Eckville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan and Deborah moved to Wizard Lake in 1999 and quickly developed many friendships in the community. His friendly smile and always willing to help attitude will be sadly missed in the area. He enjoyed boating, fishing, visiting and often would be found drinking coffee (Irish Cream flavoring) and helping his neighbors. Mrs. Susie Iwamoto of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Friday, March 28, 2003 at the age of 80 years. Susie leaves to mourn her loss, her loving children, two sons, Ron and his wife, Jenny and Ken all of Calgary, Alberta and three daughters, Judy Ladouceur of Edmonton, Alberta, Linda and her husband, John Pettersson of Calgary, Alberta and Kathy Iwamoto of Red Deer. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jamie, Andrea, T.J. and Tara. Susie was predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1984. STEBELESKI, William
Mr. William Alexander Stebeleski passed away suddenly in Angola, Africa on Monday, March 17, 2003 at the age of 47 years. Born August 1, 1955, in High Prairie, Alberta, William was the eldest of four children born to William and Theresa Stebeleski. Known to family and friends as Willie, he lived his young life in the Peace Country before moving to Red Deer in 1974. His lifelong ambition was to see the world, and this he accomplished tremendously. He went overseas working at the age of 19 and did not return until some twenty years later, after seeing just about everything the world had to offer. His travels took him to every corner of the globe and to his many friends along his road of life, we ask that you simply raise a toast on the next St. Patrick's Day Celebration because above all else, Willie favored a drink with his friends. Willie leaves behind a beautiful daughter, Cathy and estranged wife, Lek, both living in Thailand, as well as his loving mother, Theresa and his sisters, Brenda and Karen and brother, Ron. His numerous relatives and friends will also miss him and his unique knowledge of the world with which he was able to regale us with in stories of his many travels. Willie was predeceased by his father, Bill Stebeleski some 6 months ago.
