Mrs. Mabel Isabel Smith of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the age of 90 years. Mabel leaves to mourn her loss, her loving family; daughters, Helen (Bill) Service, Dot (Dave) Martin, Laurie (Punch) Wells, Carol (Larry) Myer, Myrna (Frank) Wells and Linda (Lorne) Levsen, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Mabel is also survived by one brother, Cliff (Doris) Hall, one sister, Lil (Ken) Martin, sister-in-law, Betty Hall and numerous nieces and nephews. Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, two sons, Allan and John, her father, John, mother, Susan, brothers, Alfred, John and Bert and sister, Ellen. A Celebration of Mabel's Life will be held at The Salvation Army, 4837 - 54th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, June 9, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Captains Colin and Maureen Bain officiating. STEPHENSON
William Joseph Stephenson passed away peacefully on May 29, 2003 at the Kamloops Inland Memorial Hospital. He was born November 8, 1935 in Innisfail, Alberta and grew up in the Pine Hill District until 1948 when he moved to Red Deer. Bill earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1959, becoming a dedicated pharmacist for Bishop Drugs in Red Deer for many years. Bill was well respected and liked by his many colleagues, customers and friends and participated in numerous community clubs. A life member of Optimist International, Bill loved travelling, reading, gardening and being with family and friends. We will all miss his kindness, his sense of humour and his stories. Survived by his sister Betty (Frank) Soderburg and brother Lloyd (Sharon) Stephenson and brother-in-law Frank Sigurdson and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Myrtle, father Einar and his sister Margaret. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. ANDREWS
Mr. Harold Andrews of Innisfail, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the Innisfail Health Centre at the age of 70 years. He was born at Ardenode, Alberta on November 18, 1932. His school years were at Brushy Lake, Kathryn then finished in Red Deer. He met his wife Mary and they were married July 21, 1955. He settled on their farm at Pine Lake, Alberta and farmed there until 1996. Then moved to Innisfail. Harold will be sadly missed by his wife Mary, their children, Norman of Innisfail, Sherry of Irricana, Barry of Fort McMurray. Val and Bruce of Red Deer of Red Deer, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, five brothers and three sisters. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Ethel and one son Allan. Funeral Service for the late Harold Andrews will be held Friday, May 30, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Auditorium, Innisfail and Interment will be at the Innisfail Cemetery. BARNES, Ernest Walter

Ernest "Ernie" Barnes passed away peacefully at the Innisfail Hospital on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his children, Linda of Penhold, Mike (Jan) of Penhold, Kerry of Grande Prairie, Barb (Glenn) Cornell of Red Deer and daughter-in-law Joan Barnes of Sundre; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother Lewis of Trail, B.C.; sisters Myrt Long and Etta (Max) Sweet of Ponoka; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn and son Eric; his parents Osmond and Cora Barnes; sisters Donna, Lula and Gail; and his brother Harold. Ernie lived a full and active life; first, as a farmer and then as a member of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires from which he retired at the age of 74. Funeral Services will be held from the Bowker Funeral Home, 5137 50th Avenue, Ponoka on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Andrew Burnand officiating. Leonard Beddoes passed away very peacefully at Rimbey General Hospital on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Inga; his children, Stan (Margaret) of Bentley, Greg (Debra) of Red Deer and LeAnne (Milt) Fulgham of Chase,B.C.; ten grandchildren eight great grandchildren and Marianne Hall, his Danish "granddaughter". Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Len and Flora and one brother, Gordon. Leonard lived a full and active life and believed in living one day at a time. A celebration of Leonard's life will be held at the Bentley Community Church (4824-50th Street) at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, Pastor Greg Rathjen officiating. BLACKWELL, Donald Irvine
On Friday, May 23, 2003 at the age of 72 years, the Lord called Don home after a lengthy illness. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his family. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Dora; one daughter Debby Appleby, her children Ryan and Sarah of Edmonton; two sons, Richard (Tammy) of Port Coquitlam, B.C., Peter (Heather) and their children Jessica and Breanna of Auckland, New Zealand; three sisters, Anne (Don) McGarvey, Bette (Harry) Wheeler and Linda (Dave) Rowand and numerous close extended family and friends. Don was predeceased by his father, Cecil; mother, Aileen and sister, Lois. CARLYLE, Archibald David
Mr. Archibald David Carlyle (Archie) of Blackfalds passed away on May 31, 2003 at home. Born in Chesterville, Ontario on September 2, 1912 Archie was raised and educated in the Edmonton area. He began farming in the Blindman Valley in the mid - 1930's. Archie was a member of the Rural Electrification Board when power was first brought to the Blindman Valley. He helped to establish the first Blindman Valley 4-H beef club. He was a long standing member of the board of the Aspelund Mutual Telephone Company. Archie was a past chairman of the Lacombe School Board. In 1993 Archie was awarded the Canada 125 Medal For Community Service. The Bentley community and the Bentley United Church were integral parts of his life. Archie was predeceased by his wife, Sarah (Heenan), in 1993 and by his siblings Helen, Donald, Robert, Jean, Bill, and Marion. Archie leaves to mourn: his children, Donna (Dean) Suggett of Edmonton, David (Patsy) of Blackfalds, Nancy (Rich) Bailey of Toronto, and Lynda (Terry) Morgan of Red Deer, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He will be very fondly remembered by other relatives and many friends. Memorial services will be held at the Bentley United Church on Saturday June 7, 2003 at 11:00 AM. Cremation.
