NIEMCZYK, STENLEY
After a lengthy battle with cancer, Mr. Stenley Niemczyk went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2003 at the age of 79 years. Stenley was born on December 14, 1923 in Pasada Gorna, Poland. He served in the Polish Army during World War II. He became a prisoner of war and was held in two different concentration camps. When the war was over, a thin but determined man made his way across Poland to be reunited with his family again. This determinedness served him well later in his farming years. In 1953, Stenley married Genewefa Siodor. Stenley's father, who had immigrated to Canada in 1926, became extremely ill and when it became apparent that he was not going to recover, visas were granted on compassionate grounds for Stenley and his family and Stenley's sister, Helen to come to Canada. With two young girls and unborn baby in tow, they made the journey, arriving in Montreal and then on to Red Deer by train. The final destination being a farm in the Burnt Lake District by Sylvan Lake. Unfortunately, they arrived four months too late and his father, Andrew had already passed on. Stenley took over the farm and added to what his father had began with determination and lots and lots of hard work, which was made even more difficult as he did not speak English. Stenley retired from farming in the early 1980's and moved to Red Deer. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his many close friends. His knowledge of horticulture was extensive and he spent long hours in his garden. Stenley was a kind and hard working man that never turned his back on friends or family who needed his help. Stenley sent whatever he could back to his family in Poland to help out. Stenley leaves to mourn his loss, his two daughters and one son, Anna (Dale) Grewal of Patterson, California, Mary (Morris) MacDougall of Red Deer and Andy (Bonnie) Niemczyk of Sylvan Lake, Alberta and his five grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen Sikora of Calgary, Alberta and Jean (Smolen) Kozie of Pasada Gorna, Poland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Stenley was predeceased by his beloved wife, Genewefa, his father, Andrew, his mother, Anna, his brother-in-law, Wally Sikora and numerous extended family and friends here, and in Poland. Prayers will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 - 48A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, July 18, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend Father Murton Miller celebrant.
