SWITZER, Bessie

Mrs. Bessie Scott Switzer of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at the age of 84 years. Bessie was born on December 27, 1918 at Chilliwack, BC to parents, Henry and Myra Bremner. Bessie was a wonderful mother and loved her children dearly. She was a very gracious and kind spirit who devoted her life to caring for others. Bessie also loved gardening and it was one of her favorite hobbies. Bessie will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched with her gentleness and love but forever cherished in memory and spirit. Bessie leaves to mourn her loss, her loving children; son, Robert (Thelma) Snell of Lacombe, AB, daughter, Donna (Robert) Sterk of Westbank, BC, two grandsons, Robert (Guida) Sterk of Brampton, ON and Michael (Aura) Sterk of Summerland, BC, two granddaughters, Loretta (Rene') Bourgeois of Calgary, AB and Colleen (Billy) Shippelt of Lacombe, AB, one great grandson, Tyler Sterk and five great granddaughters, Cara and Lauren Bourgeois, Alexandra and Katarina Sterk and Taylor Shippelt. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Richter of Lethbridge, AB, Alice Murray of Red Deer and Ruth Greenman of Lacombe, two sisters-in-law, Jean Genaske and Dorothy (Ray) Young both of Calgary, AB, and one brother-in-law, Ken Switzer of Coquitlam, BC, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Bessie was predeceased by her first husband, Harvey Snell in 1961 and her second husband, Cecil in 2001, her father in 1968, her mother in 1961, a brother, Herbert in 1942, an infant daughter in 1950 and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Relatives and friends are invited to come and pay their respects at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, July 28, 2003 between the hours of 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Bessie's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Alto-Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bessie's Honor may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S., 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 8M6 or the Palliative Care Unit, C/O The Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, P.O. TRYNCHUK, Shirley

Shirley Anne Trynchuk of Red Deer, AB, passed away at the Roland Michener Wellness Centre on Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the age of 58 years. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by: her brother Jim (Joyce) Trenchuk of Calgary, AB; her sisters, Verna (Haskell) Hawkins of Turner, Oregon, USA, Doreen (Allan) Schrock of Dallas, Oregon, USA, and Donna (Al) Jones of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. She was predeceased by: her father Fred in 1986 and her mother Anne in 2002. A special thank you to Shirley's care givers, staff and volunteers of The Roland Michener Wellness Centre for their care and compassion. Funeral Services will be held in the Theatre of The Roland Michener Recreation Centre (119 - 51A Street, Red Deer, AB on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Heritage Garden at Mountain View Memorial Gardens (17th Avenue S.E. at Garden Road, Calgary, AB). In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a memorial tribute in Shirley's name may be made directly to the Roland Michener Wellness Centre (119 - 15A Street, Red Deer, AB T4N 5Y5). TUCKWOOD, James

Mr. James Rolan Tuckwood of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, June 30, 2003 at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne; five sons, Ed, Ron, Jack (Colleen), Barry (Sheena) and Shane (Debbie); one daughter, Charlotte (Paul) Maffenbeier; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. James is also survived by one half sister, Violet Stevens; and two half brothers, Arthur and Larry Tuckwood. He was predeceased by two children, Sharon Alberta and Lawrence George. James was born in the East Coullee District near Drumheller, Alberta. He enjoyed work as a floor sander, laboured in the coal mines and was a farmer/rancher until he was employed at the University of Calgary as a caretaker/messenger. James had a phenomenal memory and a great respect for people, and "if he liked you, you would certainly like him". Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium Ltd. If friends so desire, memorial donations in the name of the late Mr. James Tuckwood may be made to the charity of one's choice. TURUDIJA, Zivko

Zivko Turudija of Red Deer passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the age of 25 years. He is survived by his girlfriend Jolene Oakes and their son Dejan Turudija; his parents Ned Turudija and Betty Cino, and his sisters Krstina Turudija, Jelena Turudija and Talia Cino. Throughout Zivko's life, he brought joy and happiness to the lives of those he knew. He was a compassionate man who loved everyone close to him, and he was a wonderful father to his new son Dejan. Sylvia Mary Umpherville of Red Deer passed away on July 19, 2003 at the age of 67 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her special friend Bill Kretzul; four sons, Peter, John, Myron and Garry; one daughter Kathy (Roger); two brothers Floyd (Joyce), Joe; one sister Irene; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia is predeceased by her parents Louis and Alvena Deschambeault, two daughters, Dawn Marie Litwin and Delores Umpherville; two brothers Alberta and Almee, five sisters Eileen, Yvonne, Winnie, Judy and Gerry. VAN DEN BOOM, Jeannette

Mrs. Jeannette Marie Van Den Boom, beloved wife of Mr. Herman Van Den Boom of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the age of 88 years. Jeannette was one of the most beautiful, loving and giving persons one could ever hope to meet in their lifetime. She loved little children, the poor and the hungry. Jeannette's life revolved around helping and giving to others in need and the gifts she gave were given out of loving kindness and given in a most humble manner. Her heart was made of pure gold and her inner beauty was very precious and dear. Jeannette met her soul mate, Herman at a singles club in Edmonton, Alberta and they shared a marriage filled with love and devotion to one another for thirty years. Herman was her joy and her laughter. She loved to take trips traveling through the mountains with Herman and enjoy the splendor and magnificence of their beauty. Jeannette loved to dance, she loved to cook wonderful meals and she liked to go out on occasion and gamble, just for fun. Her love and zest for life was a true blessing and a gift for others to share and enjoy. Jeannette will be sorrowfully missed but lovingly remembered in the hearts of her loved ones forever and her spirit will always be with them. Jeannette leaves to mourn her loss, her beloved husband and best friend, Herman, her loving sisters-in-law, Anne Borstlap and her family and Riek Faber and her family, her brothers-in-law, Jan Van Den Boom and family and Tony Van Den Boom and family, all of Europe, her children, Robert (Mary) Schappy of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Peter (Darlene) Schappy of Edmonton, Alberta, Pauline (Michael) McMaster of Red Deer, Victor (Sharon) Schappy of Edmonton, Alberta and Louise (Fred) Zucker of Red Deer, several grandchildren and one great grandchild. She will dearly missed by her caregiver, Cathy of Red Deer.
